Yeah, I can see that. Especially the 80's part. DS gives me a retro Game & Watch vibe, which I think is pretty neat. I'm more for minimalistic design of the DS rather than PSP.

Ha ha, OK, if you're down with the 80s, I could see why you'd enjoy it. In my case, I really never did find those older designs attractive. Honestly, the SP is probably the first handheld dedicated game system that I found to be really nice looking. Nothing is worse than the old Atari Lynx. My lord, that thing was as wide as the torso of those playing. Absolutely MASSIVE device, it was...

The PSP is definitely the hottest looking handheld ever, but I agree that comparisons with the i-pod don't really make sense to me.

I think the ipod and to a lesser extent the ds, are both better design wise, but psp has a more expensive look to it.

If we are talking exclusively about design though, I would say: ipod>sp>>ds>psp

As many people have said, the ipods simplicity may not be possible on a non clamshell handheld, but the psp is definitely too cluttered (too many buttons, text, and logos).

The DS is a cool design but it just doesnt compete with the sp because the edges arent flush with each other when the unit is closed, making the two parts look seperate.

Woulda been cool if the top screen of the ds was widescreen I think, but I guess the speakers take up that space.

Why don't you just compare it to what PSP can truly compete with like portable media players where the LCD screen is very important. I can't really give an informed opinion as to how "good-looking" a device is until I see it physically but psp does impress from the pictures I've seen.
