Here's my opinion on the new weapons. I've unlocked all of them except the Liu rifle.
Model 1900: Finally the double barrel shotgun makes an appearance in the regular game. It's fun and pretty generous when hip firing. Too bad the new maps don't really work with shotguns besides Tsaritsyn.
SMG 08/18: Mediocre SMG. It has a large magazine and low recoil but it's damage output is pitiful compared to Hellreigel and automatico. Would not recommend.
Fedorov Avtomat: My new favorite medic rifle. Not surprising considering it's the only gun in the game that functions like an assault rifle. Great gun.
Parabellum MG14/17: Has the highest rate of fire of any other LMG, so it just melts people if you can manage the recoil. Good gun.
Perino Model 1908: Decent LMG. Large magazine with low recoil Doesn't do anything different from some of the other LMG's imo.
Mosin-Nagant M91: Good long range sniper. I don't enjoy the sweet spot mechanic in BF1 so I can't really comment on anything more.
Vetterli-Vitali M1870/87: Eh, the SMLE and Martini are better imo.
I have the Parabellum. Youre right on, I suck at the recoil, but melted like 7 people on one of the TSNP DLC maps.
About to unlock the Fedorov. While Im a bit unsure I want to see guns crossing classes (SMGs should be what Assault excels at), I know its a AR type, but I'm hoping it doesn't outclass SMG range.
And Im also hoping the other semi rifles are not obsolete.
I know theres a big balance change coming, but my hope is they can make all the guns viable. No point in adding more and more guns if they can't all do something neat for players to enjoy. But if one gun is the clear stronger option, I don't want that to be the case either.
i didnt enjoy previous battlefield games at all and love this game. Conquest imo is a terrible mode where everyone is running around each other and randomly getting killed by planes, tanks and snipers on the other side of the map.
Operations and Frontlines on the other hand add that focused slightly more linear combat the series maps have always needed.
The gun mechanics are the best in the business. Going back to Destiny and Blops 3 is very strange even though i used to think they had the best shooting mechanics.
the gun balance is even better because you no longer have Assault Rifles sniping you from a 100 meters away. LMGs take six bullets to drop people which means you have a shot at surviving if you can find cover quickly. Same goes for Sniper rifles which are no longer guaranteed 1 hit kills and Medic rifles which are all semi auto, have very few rounds per mag and require a lot of patience and skill.
CoD went back to boots on the ground this year but their gun balance and shooting mechanics are all off. DICE knew they had to ground the game to focus on gun v gun battles and everything from the kill sound notification to the hit markers changing color on headshots and the feedback of each weapon on hits makes this a great shooting game. Even Doom felt weird to me.
Interesting. I don't have an issue with Conquest, and find most of those kinds of deaths come from poor positioning, like spawning on a friendly.
I agree that CQ feels lame because of running in circles, and I wish DICE could design maps that didn't result in middle chaos.
That said, they are changing the conquest to classic, which hopefully results in more people playing defensive. They generally need to encourage defence.
Would like to see more maps like Armoured Kill from BF3 too.
