Battlefield 1 single player trailer coming tomorrow

For some reason, I was thinking they weren't going with a single player campaign this time. I personally think they're a waste of time since I haven't enjoyed a DICE single player campain so I would have rather they just put the resources towards more multiplayer content, but the WWI setting might make for an interesting campaign.

Huh. For a bit there I thought there was going to be no SP trailer. Well my expectations are below the ground, so maybe this can be decent?

DICE have been tight lipped about this game's campaign for some reason, but the few details they've let slip is about it being different than the last few Battlefield campaigns.

Battlefield's campaigns have mostly been set in tight corridors with close-quarters combat, lacking the openness and variety that the multiplayer provides. That doesn't seem to be the case with the newly announced Battlefield 1, however, as lead designer Danny Berlin told GameSpot at an event that the campaign "will more accurately reflect Battlefield's open sandboxes."

Berlin continued, saying DICE's World War I game will feature "much more choice and variety than [it's] done before." He also said the upcoming Battlefield's story will be about a multifarious group of people "dealing with the changing world in their own ways," and it'll allow players to take various, more open approaches.

You've talked about the game telling multiple characters' stories. But how exactly will that work? Will we switch between the characters?

Aleks Grondal: We're changing it up this time. I can't go into too much detail, but the goal is for you to be able to explore multiple different stories from multiple different perspectives. Think about it like this: if something cool happened over here, and something cool happened over here, we'd rather not have a story that jumps from all around the world. We want to have personal, relateable stories we can tell in a space where they actually make sense to be.

For instance, in the trailer you see one of the characters - actually you see a few of them - but one of the heroines we have is on the horse. Her story takes place in Arabia. We provide different gameplay flavours and also thematic flavours. So it should feel different than our previous campaigns.

Conceptually it seems like they are doing something less involved than BF4's effort. Unless I'm mistaken the missions are supposed to be vignettes of various WW1 battles instead of something more cohesive, so it could end up being an expansion of Battlefront EA's approach to missions.

I'm sure there are DICE employees with expertise in making single player games that just need something to do.

Make the SP as good or bad as you want, Dice, but please, don't make it mandatory to unlock weapons, gadgets or something like that in Multiplayer.

Has DICE ever made a campaign (not counting Mirror's Edge cause that's not a shooter) that has managed to be more than mediocre? More than a decade making fps's and they always end up being mostly garbage

People will say BC2, but frankly that was pretty hokey too.

Absolutely disgusting how DICE and EA are portraying this war. Some Top Gun style shit doing fly by's while photographing Nazi's...
Looks cool as fuck, wonder whether they really did photograph things from planes back then?

This has the potential to be a great single player mode. The problem so many campaigns have is the focus on trying to tell a complete story from one perspective. Multiple characters in truly different locales, with an overarching narrative has so much more scope.

Fingers crossed they offer larger environments and greater wiggle room for how to tackle objectives.

considering how late this trailer is coming I'm not expecting much. Easily think it'll be BF3&4 quality campaign, meaning it won't be worth playing.

I never bothered with BF3's campaign, I think I did the opening mission and just called it quits to play multiplayer even though my friends told me it was actually pretty good. I only played and finished BF4's single player because they locked one of my favorite LMGs behind completion of it and even then it was a bit of chore to get through.

So honestly while I'm sure the trailer will be slick as hell tomorrow I'm likely not going to bother playing the campaign.

I legit understand all the criticisms at BF4's campaign and I guess all I can say is that I LOVE it's gunplay and technical prowess. It's a gorgeous game and that shoots real good essentially

FUCK YEAH

I'm fucking hyped (for whatever reason) for their single player. I did enjoy BF4's for what it's worth.
