Battlefield 2 Demo LIVE

Specs: Intel LGA 775 Pentium D 3.0GHz
Intel 955X Board
2GB Corsair XMS2 PC2 6400
PCI-X eVGA 6800 Ultra
80GB SATA WD Raptor

It's running amazingly fast. Co-workers are jumping on and we're trying to max the server out right now. This is fucking awesome!

Menu's. Awesome.
In game sound. Fucking awesome.
Controls and such. Awesome.

To remap any of your keys to a specific key, you have to go into the config.txt file and manually map it. Not sure why EA did this but oh well it is a demo.

So far playing 7 on 7. Capture points. Tanks are roaming around and... fuck just got killed for being AFK. :(

Unless you have a super computer like many in this thread seem to have - don't bother with this. It runs like complete ass on the minimum specs. :(

Golem's TrueDownload thing doesnt seem to be working anymore for me. Just gives me a bunch of errors when I copy/paste the download link from Server 3. Anyone else having problems?

I don't have 1 meg per second connections like some of you so I'm going pretty slow on this download. At least I'll have it by the weekend. I was just wondering if anyone who has a similar configuration as mine has tested out of the game. Just wondering how well it'll run.

Athlon 64 3200+
1Gig RAM
ATI Radeon 9600 XT 256meg

Thanks! :D

Hurray for GSC members only servers. Fuck you gamespot.

Bah, I'm GSC and I didn't even see those :( I've 32% of the way through, don't know whether to stop now and start over or what (no, not using a download app like i should be :( ).

No no, there is no GSC only ones. Hence the fuck you :)

Good news for R9800 Pro owners..

Running
XP2700+ @2.35GHz
1GB
R9800 Pro (398/351)

Running the game on high quality (leaves Lighting and textures on medium) and at 1280x960 and the game is smooth. Fucking A!

That's good news.

I'm wondering how my P4 2.53Ghz, 512MB, 9700 Pro might hold up at 1024x768..(i hope BF2 isn't the game I start moving down to...gulp...800x600..)

How fast is the torrent?

For those that use True Downloader, where do I find the file? It says Download Complete, but the file isnt in the "Finished Files" area.

I think it has to build the files after it downloads. There is no message saying that but be patient.

General comments on the demo so far..

Pluses:
- Engine is WAY improved over Battlefield Vietnam.. I think it runs faster (BFV had stuttering for me). Oh, none of that slowdown crap in structures anymore. Even when you turn a corner and see a beautiful landscape view, it doesn't slow at all. Boating around on the water has never been more fun.. and pretty.
- Lag doesn't appear to be an issue so far.
- Doesn't feel buggy at all.. very good product Dice/EA.
- Sounds are really good.
- After the initial shader configuration (takes a good while but only happens when you edit a graphics setting except resolution) while loading a map.. load times are probably better than BF1942. This also applies when you reload the game fresh. *Now I have 1GB of ram.. I imagine this game, like the previous ones, would be a nightmare on load times with anything less.
- Fun

Earler downers:
- I still don't like thier method of texture filtering.
- More arcadey than BFV?

It said it was doing that...then the message went to "Download Complete". But the file never moved to finished files.

I hopes I didnt fucks it up.

3dgamers.com is obviously being hammered with visits right now (its slow as hell to load) and they havent even put the demo up yet. My DL speed from gamespot was 15k on cable, Firefox says it'll be complete sometime after Thanksgiving. I think Ill try download.com...

Try the TrueDownloader method posted earlier.. unless you're not on complete.

A little tip if you want to eliminate the loading screens every time you start the game..

Go into \EAGAMES\Battlefield 2 Demo\Mods\BF2\Movies and delete the bik files..

Just leave:
menu.bik
menu_loggedin.bik
noise.bik

Cheers :D

I cancelled complete long ago and still can use the TrueDownloader method.

Stupid that they asked Fileplanet not to host it right away. Not paying for that gamespot crap again.

ohh fun game

been playing special ops, and taking the boat behind enemy lines and placing c4 on everything

nothing like putting some c4 on an enemy plane and watching it start to take off and explode :)

can you blow up bridges?

There's been at least 20 people here in the office playing since about 5:30. Sounds like they're having a blast, but productivity is a thing of the past :)

First impression of the game... oh, and I haven't played any other BF, so I'm without sin. Not That good looking, plays too fast, messy for me. I like my games structured.. this is more like a button masher arcade game, aimed at the big audience. Well, serves me right from going from americas army / CS to this. I'll try to have some actual fun in the morning, a little too tired to be happy about the random *getting smashed to smitherines as a foot soldier not having a vehicle* gameplay.

It is a lot more arcadey than the previous BF's, but that was to be expected to reach a larger audience. I still think it's fun, but won't have the longevity of BF1942 unless there is a popular mod released.

Also, the 12 minute time limit is hilarious. People still play the Wake Island demo, so I guess EA are trying to see more people front up the cash for the retail version this time.

On the plus side when I get home there'll be a game waiting for me, hopefully.

I hate to say it though guys.. the game certainly doesn't look nextgen. I'll go as far as saying that it isn't much better looking than BFV. It's like BFV 1.5, but with much smoother gameplay.

Now that I've played for a good 30min, I'm really not liking the arcade nature of it. Heck, I'm still buying it.. just.. bring on the realism mods!

are you guys playing on a particular server? i'd like to try it out with some gaffers later tonight

my first BF game and i suck, seems pretty fun though. game looks like shit on low details, lol

Uh, go play BF:V again. Not only does this game look better, its engine runs 100% better than BF:V on the same hardware.

I can run it on HIGH with AA perfectly smooth. BF:V was chugging at the same settings and looked worse.

I really hate this slow arse connection at Gamespot. Possibly cancelling my account at the end of this month. Tired of getting no value for premium membership.
