I heard a rumor about the new map being in Canada or some shit lol

Also a good read down memory lane about all the crazy BF launches and reactions.

Basically bf5 was such a clusterfuck that it basically made any sane person flee from the company. Braindrain happening right there.

lol well....maybe. From what I've seen personally from a few of my art friends and personal friends in the industry, its simply a job to many of them, they don't get personally involved. Years ago when I worked at Home Depot, I recall many people talking about the owner of that company being really controversial, though I quit long ago...it had nothing to do with the owner, it was simply my time to leave, I wanted to do real estate, finish college and move on etc. Thats how many of them describe it to me, they do have dream projects, but for the most part they still have families to feed.

I know the first reaction from people leaving is "SUCH A CLUSTERFUCK" and such, but consider how successful Call Of Duty was last year and you still saw layoffs....consider how successful it was and you still saw lots move on to different projects, its not saying something isn't wrong with the product to some degree if we don't like it or something, its say it many times has little relevance of developers leaving as gaming is primarily contracted. Its standard and normal to see 80 to 100 plus people leave as their contracts are up. I mean look at how good Call Of Duty sells, yet notice how many are ex-developers from Activision, it doesn't mean they are bad or they hate it or anything like that, they simply want more projects under their belt, want to work sooner, move on etc.

They can stay if EA wants to have them on some other project, but many of them move on to continue working or even already have jobs lined up, so its not uncommon for companies to hire around this time knowing that those massive EA, Activision or Ubisoft projects will be complete. So when you hear some massive amount of people left.....99% sure they already had contracts up. That is standard as it would be unusual if they just kept everyone on or something as that really isn't normal post launch.

So if you read about a team gaining a shit ton of developers, its because they are nearing a launch and final push ie 1 or 2 years, then a lot of that temp staff is let go or moved on a different project etc, but even agreeing to stay on could mean not getting any work for some time depending on where the game is in development.

^ So this was to complete Red Dead Redemption 2, notice how massive that team became before its release, consider it was in development for almost 8 years. Thus...MOST of that time is not with a team that size, they'll go back down, start designing a new game and then simply double in size before the final push. So because of this, gaming sorta gets this weird thing where people think someone is fleeing or leaving ship or something like that after a massive release, but often a contract was just up. (thats not to say one would never leave if the publisher was just not paying them, like they owed them back pay or something like that)

I remember during BF4, DICE made a C4 Christmas skin and change the text to Jeep Stuff in their test server and fans asked them to put it in thr main game. Then there was the C100 knife.

Now we have a "fan" cry about a character wearing red hood as destroying the franchise. It seems he has grown old. What a ride

@ me, you don't have to be a coward. I never once said the red hood destroyed the franchise, just that it's going in a direction that isn't Battlefield to me. If you used the slightest bit of reading comprehension, and avoided replying out of complete emotion, you would've understood that considering I stated it very clearly.

I'm well aware of the random c4 "present" skin, the difference is there was a classic core Battlefield game that surrounded that random skin. Going back to that reading comprehension thing, my opinion isn't based of one single thing, the Santa outfit, it's just that the outfit perfectly summed up the litany of changes made to the core game design that make it feel like it's some other game rather than the Battlefield we've all known and loved for years now.

Assuming this is all or at least mostly true this reeks of what I suspected which is top execs at EA getting too involved and chasing what they think will bring in money much to the detriment of the end product. It is also what has caused them to have to make drastic moves when it comes to staffing and potentially changes within the game itself so soon close to its launch to try and pick up positive momentum. People love to dogpile so internet outrage is not a good barometer for what the legs will be for a game moving forward but rather the player base itself which is fickle with most games. No Mans Sky is a good example that if the developers do sincerely want the game to succeed they should just keep their head down, get to work, listen to feedback, and deliver the product as close to possible that they originally intended and EA themselves need to just get the fuck out of the way.

As far as the next game being a hero shooter and even further from the original Battlefield formula, I'd be willing to wager that plan is already being reworked due to the response to 2042. But this is EA we are talking about so who the fuck knows.

Was there not a new leader at EA which promised that she would give the teams the time they need and there would be a higher quality standard ? It was this maybe last year ? A Woman who is in charge ? Anyone remember ?

V Video : yeah the game wants to be something of everything but none of it is pretty good imo.

Finally unlocked the Soflam (my fav gadget in BF4) only to find out u get no extra points for destruction by other players after painting the target? Just 5exp spotting points? Wot? What incentive is there to even run it? Justba waste of space. Switched back to Stinger. I'm seriously done with all this bullcrap.

Nothing feels better than shooting three AA missiles at a transport only to have someone else shoot the final missile and get the kills and XP while I get 10 XP for damage.

The XP system fucking sucks and discourages teamwork.

For me I use it to easily take out vehicles and help teammates. That's all the reason I need. I even have a loadout based around it.

Should it reward additional points? Yes. Does that make me not want to use it? Nope.

On a different note: They nerfed the Nightbird's 20mm cannons in the last patch and they ruined it. Every game people whine about dying from an air vehicle and despite them being the weakest they've probably ever been, they were still nerfed. Takes basically one whole barrage of them to kill one guy. Luckily the Anti-personal rockets are still great.

Battlefield 2042 specialists aren’t very popular, but that doesn’t mean we can’t push them to the limit. In this video, we’re testing unexpected physics, seeing if even more things can pierce Dozer’s shield, learning Ranger is no good boy, and messing with guns, rockets, and explosives.

Welcome back to more Battlefield 2042 mythbusting. The latest game by DICE may have had a very rocky and buggy launch, but that’s an even better reason to test the limits of specialists, gadgets, and some wonky physics. While you’re waiting for some massive patches to come in with more than 150 fixes, join us as we have some fun with the game’s brokenness.

In this video, we’re going to see if you can be killed by a flying decapitated tank turret, if you can break your fall by grappling the ground, if anything can pierce Dozer’s shield, and what Irish’s grenade and rocket interceptor actually stops. We’re also going to show you how to stop those overpowered hovercraft, see if smoke can save you from Paik’s scan, try to revive through floors, and mess with some explosives. We’d love to do even more tests, so tell us what you would like us to try with specialists, gadgets, guns, or physics.

Been playing lots of the Rush on 2042 maps and it's pretty good. A few objectives are too close, but overall I hope it stays.

Also, playing Dozer on Rush is great. So many good spots to push and hold with.

Prox Sensor

  • Lowered spotting radius from 30m -> 20m
  • Lowered uptime from 30s -> 14s
  • Lowered amount of Prox Sensor a player can carry and deploy from 2 -> 1
Breakthrough

  • Kaleidoscope - Rooftop Capture Objective has been removed. There are now two Capture Objective at the bottom in BT large and one at the bottom in BT small
  • Orbital - Rooftop Capture Objective has been removed. There is now a single Capture Objective at the bottom in BT large and BT small
  • Hourglass - Rooftop Capture Objective has been removed. There is now a single Capture Objective at the bottom in BT large and BT small. Also fixed an issue where players were spawning out of bounds

YES!

I was shocked to see they fixed the rooftop spawns so quickly. Most rage inducing moments was getting killed by a tank on top of a roof as the elevator doors opened, I've quit multiple breakthrough matches cause of it.

Ok, good they're making these changes and doing it quickly. Though to be blunt, they have too or the game will not produce any further funds and the next game will do worst in sales.

yea they are doing theses updates at a greater pace then past BF titles, so what ever their new set up is seems to be working out. Even the whole server thing where they can remove something in real time is pretty fucking awesome, in past games we had to just live with some broken thing until an update, so its cool to see to some degree things can be removed in real time. So it seems in terms of the response time, the set up to communicate issues and the feature of removing something in real time shows they've learned quite a lot since BF4's launch.

I'd say their long term support is why I had no issue buying BF titles at launch. The worst is kinda always the very beginning lol.

While they don't fix the extra points for vehicles you can use it to spot enemies. They stay marked for much longer than the proximity sensor and Casper's drone.

What this tells us is that people are retarded.

I'd be interested in seeing COD results put side by side with these numbers.

Bad Company 2 was fucking incredible.

lol nah. I don't think the community as a whole cares THAT much about hot takes. Its to the point of being some sort of meme now once a BF comes out and folks are like "DOOOOOOM" and or "the series is DEAD, DEAAAAAD" lol

COD will continue to outsell it as the IP is much bigger and I don't recall any BF outselling a Call Of Duty. I'd be shocked if 2042's life time sales outsold Call Of Duty Vanguard. Only way I even see that is if EA JUST kept putting out maps and updates for 2042 for the whole generation or something ala Street Fighter V, but I don't really see that happening, but crazy shit has happened before.

They could have it like 2042, BF Free To Play and Battlefront 3 and just have those 3 titles supported the whole gen or something instead of making other entries, but I just don't see DICE not wanting to do some crazy next gen shit and I don't see EA wanting to just do 1 game, so...I don't see any area that 2042 outsells Call Of Duty Vanguard.

Bad Company 2 was amazing! Yet look at its sales, many people made it sound like that series was killing the BF IP too, removing prone, adding single player, BFBC1 not having a PC version etc I didn't care about any of that and still got Bad Company 2 on several platforms and loved it, got 2042 and have no issue with them shaking things up. That is the BF thing to do in the first place lol

This game is going to be on sale for $50 here in Canada starting on Friday. This doesn't seem like a huge savings until you realize that the retail price is $90.

A lot of people pre ordered (like myself) and hoped the beta issues were in fact from an old build like they said.

After 10 hour trial I refunded my money and will wait until things get hammered out.

For real?! Where? This is the price drop I was looking for, no way was I going to pay for price for this shit. $50 however sounds like a low enough price to pay to risk picking it up. If I hate it I can sell it and probably recoup most of the cost.

GameStop, someone posted a flyer pic on RFD.
Good luck, I took the same stance but I'm just going to grab it from the library for free.

Your local library rents games? That's rad. Thanks for the info.

Edit - it says ps5 version is $59.99 booooooo. Last gen versions are $49.99

Just went on sale on XBL. Trying to decide if its still worth it? I played some on EA access at launch and had a ok time.
Patch 3.0 and tomorrow's 3.1 for me personally resolved most of mine and the communities lingering issues.

Specialist aren't going anywhere so if you're an absolute BF purist then look elsewhere. There will be one new map before end of year I believe so consider that if you enjoy what's on offer currently cause that number probably won't change much outside of a couple different game mode variants like 64 player conquest and breakthrough before end of year as well.

My personal opinion, I play Halo, Warzone, and Destiny 2 intermittently. Battlefield with all its warts and issues has kept my interest as well as my friends who I typically play with. Its the only game that allows us to really play how we want to depending on how we're feeling that night. We may be real competitive one night and do call outs and move in formations. Or like yesterday all play as sundance and try and blow up vehicles with C5 the entire time just for fun which caused some pretty funny scenarios.

Thats just my 2 cents, whatever you decide I hope you enjoy the game you choose.

Syringe spamming as Falck on Breakthrough is a good time. Got that trophy just now. Need to play more Rao and Casper though.

This thing is going on sale a Gamestop Canada for $50 for the Series X and PS5 versions this Friday, hopefully digital sales will follow. In Canada when this happens, most retailers match the price too.

If it’s not on sale by Friday then get it Friday evening on digital… otherwise you’ll miss out a weekend of play and a reason to rant about its flaws on various forums.

Yeah it’s a broken mess but it hits the spot, especially with the recent flow of patches. All I need now is levelling up in Portal and custom games where u can rip with hardcore TTK rules. Even after that it’s probably 75% of what it could have been at best :-(

Nope it's $49.99. Are you trolling or just being dumb?

$89.99 SAVE $40 means it's $49.99

The flyer is out and it shows that it's going to be $49.99.

EDIT: There are TWO versions of the fucking flyer, this is fucked up Gamestop... one says $49.99 the other says $59.99. Smartcanucks have the version that shows $49.99.

Ah, there it is eh. Instead of looking into it yourself, or even just asking where I saw the price, you chose this abrasive response. Interesting choice.

Someone finally realized both gens had the same sale price despite there being a $10 difference normally

It's extremely unusual for 2 versions to exist, this is some shitty back paddling on their part, there will no doubt be people that saw the first version going in, waiting in line and being stuck paying $10 more because they waited in a stupid long lineup.

they're nerfing the vehicle weapons way too hard. It takes ages to kill someone now with a 30mm canon , when you finally get a kill you'll be lit up by 5 rpgs already. Not even worth it to get into a vehicle that isn't a chopper / tank.

I pretty much only use the AA vehicle and I hate that they're nerfing it.

Sales numbers aren't really surprising, Battlefield is a huge franchise and a lot of the game's issues came to light after launch.

Player retention would be a more interesting metric as time goes on.
