Battlefield 2042 |OT| - Squad Up, Gear Up, and Join the Fight.

I want to improve my heli game but rarely does someone hop in the gunner seat and that means you're royally fucked. I dunno if I'm just bad or it's the netcode but I'm getting oneshotted? left and right. Sometimes from across the map by a single guy. And don't let me start with all the level 5000 " I have no life" people flying jets and fucking u up 10 seconds after lift off. When I'm running Soflam no one is actually taking down the helis, tank and jets. It's really beyond frustrating by now.

This is one of the most glaring examples of how the elimination of classes is detrimental to gameplay. On one hand I'm kinda enjoying the freedom of mixi and matching weapons and equipment but when any asshole can equip an AA missile launcher it can make it a nightmare to fly. Sometimes you're dodging a barrage of missiles from like ten people, let alone the jets and helicopters also attacking you.

Yet you wonder why it still moved millions making it one of the fastest selling BFs in history? I don't think a lot of the community takes seriously this type of hyperbole and some times it can back fire. Folks spent all this energy telling us how bad this Assassins Creed is or this Call Of Duty is or stay way from this Far Cry and many times we've seen those titles STILL fucking go on to move record units. After a while, I think they just start ignoring that whole screaming Youtube neckbeard shit as it gets annoying.

You can't force everyone to hate everything sometimes man lol

Everything is either THE BEST or "dogshit" with little real measured response, so why the fuck are some you shocked that people stopped listening? I'm more willing to listen if its a real measured response, not this knee jerk neck beard shit of "THE BEST 100x better then BFV" and or "DOGSHIT, stay awayz" etc. The gaming communities obsession with that shit is why many don't take them seriously. They are unable to even properly quantify what the fuck they are talking about to even hold any real discussion to take their recommendation seriously. So I can't tell you to buy a game based on me telling you "derrr its da BEST 100x better then bfv", but I also can't tell you to avoid game and only tell you its "dogshit". Do you not see how strange that might sound? Its not only unfair, its so chock full of fucking bias, there is not point if my reply is either the best or dogshit. Not everything falls in that area and the more the community keeps trying to force that concept, expect games like this to keep selling.

How can those gamers even tell its a bad game if we've been thru this entire thing before with every fucking major release where the sky is suppose to be falling?
You're a fan on this game, I get it. Calm down with the "neck beard" horseshit. Someone doesn't like something you don't so "neck beards lol". Whether you like it or not, I consider this a bad Battlefield game. I bought a Series X and an LG C1 in preperation for the new entry to my favourite multiplayer game series in the last 10 years. I was very disappointed. I'll repeat just for you sweetheart. I, me, msyelf, not you, consider this new entry to be a dogshit Battlefield game. I'm not trying to force you to sell it or hate it or something. The reasons why many, including myself, consider it to be a bad Battlefield game have been stated many times by many different people. Why do I need to copy and paste? I don't. I consider BFV to be an average Battlefield game, always have. It has problems most definitely but there is fun to be found now and again. WIth the problems, I wouldn't consider BFV to be "dogshit". Now stop getting your knickers in a twist and go play against 127 bots players.

"Bro" you should educate yourself and read my previous post, you come across like a screaming immature child. Again you're in a OT for people actively playing a game telling people they have bad taste and are wasting their time, you're in no position to pass judgment.

I've been active in this thread from the jump, funny how you randomly pop up and it's only of course purely to shit talk and judge everyone else who might be enjoying the game, maybe try being a better person and adding something positive to the site.
Bro fuck off

Jokes aside. Play4Free (or Heroes) still holds the trophy for worst in the series.

I played both and didn't think Play4Free was bad. I really couldn't get into Heroes. Both were money grabs..sure...but I had seen a lot of people who tried Play4Free and then went to other BF games.

Just got done playing a bit and hit level 80 (yay another charm I'll never see while playing!!!) and I currently have just under 120 hours played, this includes the 10 hour trial of course. I wanted to update my list of issues with this game since I do attempt to discuss the game the most here (getting harder and harder to) and I figured as patches come and go it'd be easy to look back and see where things got better or even worse, so here goes:

-My biggest issue with this game currently by far, like it's not even close to my second complaint, is the fucking rubber banding when getting shot by vehicles. I consider myself to be pretty decent when it comes to taking care of land vehicles specifically but nothing pisses me off more when I am attempting to destroy one and just get stuck in the same spot and can't move cause I am being repeatedly drilled by 30mm cannon fire. I die more because of this issue than I do because of the simple fact that a vehicle is actively targeting me.

-My second biggest issue, no fucking XP for helping with destroying vehicles, including the SOFLAM. How many times do I need to throw 2 anti-armor grenades, a emp grenade to disable weapons, hit the Bolte with 2 recoilless rockets, only for some jackass to come along and get one rocket off to finish it and I get absolutely NOTHING. Sure the fight was fun but I want xp, I want something for my efforts, plus every single BF game had it before, this is a team oriented game, reward us for working together, maybe then people will finally not let one or two chopper pilots control an entire Conquest match while not once trying to take it down. Also they have to speed up the reload speed of the Recoilless cause after firing one it feels like an eternity before getting that second shot off.

-Dead enemies remaining in an upright state causing me to shoot at them therefore revealing my location which then gets me killed by an actual live enemy. I don't know if this is a server side issue or whatever, I am not a game developer but multiple times I have seen a dead enemy be in a upright position as if they are still alive and I go and shoot them and they are very much dead and then like a jack ass my position is now known to all enemies near me and then I get killed, please fix.

-Some maps have too many open spaces. Not all maps suffer from this, but a good majority have these spaces that are essentially kill boxes for infantry focused players, you essentially become fodder for anyone who can half control a chopper or tank. I don't really knw what they can do to try and fix this issue, simply adding barricades or random buildings here and there might help but I'm sure that will take quite a bit of play testing to balance. Also on some maps tanks can sit on the far edge of the map and rain down hell fire and brimstone non stop on a control point and unless you have a good chopper pilot you're basically fucked. They need to do something the boundaries in conquest so this is mitigated a bit.

-Weather system is very hit or miss. I feel it serves as nothing more than a visual treat, it doesn't aid the overall Battlefield experience whatsoever. The trailer that showed vehicles getting picked up on a control point and players using it to fly around is either non existent or such a rare occurrence that they might as well just be removed. Levolution at least changed a map on one point mid match to mix up the gameplay, here it's an event that you can completely ignore, sometimes the tornado just spins in the corner of the map doing absolutely nothing. But again they look really cool, on my PC with a 3090 at max settings it creates a really cool visual experience to see all the debris flying around, especially on Hourglass during the sandstorm, but it just doesn't do anything for gameplay.

-Revive issues persist with players who died near walls/objects. If their body is partially penetrated (giggity) or blocked it often times makes it impossible to revive them making you look like an asshole as you run away.

-No scoreboard. Now most bitch about this due to stats and all that shit, personally I am not that concerned about that BUT I would like it strictly as a way to track those who might be cheating. It would be much more clear to see when someone is 100-1 on the scoreboard to be able to be a bit sus, currently there is absolutely no way to easily tell who might be cheating or even report a player, it's rather convoluted. With that said I also haven't noticed anything bad when playing, everything "seems" to be on the up and up so maybe their cheating engine is doing its job.

-Attachments are a bit odd. So this one isn't a huge issue, but coming from something like BF3 and 4 where it felt like every god damn gun had 50 sights and 38 underbarrels, here it feels a bit...slim. Now like always you find what you like and stick with it and even then 95% of the shit in the game got ignored once people honed in what they liked. But what's odd is going by the description a lot of the attachments seem to do the same thing yet they are separated by quite a big kill gap to acquire so it makes it seem like they are there purely for cosmetic purposes. Why when there are only 5-8 attachments do 2-3 of them offer vertical or horizontal recoil control? At the very least maybe they can balance what the attachments offer as a benefit so there is a greater benefit to mixing it up, cause I barely use the T-cross system as is except to occasionally put on a silencer.

-I'll combine these two, squad size which I think needs to be upped to 8 making each team have 8 teams of 8. Also bring back the deploy camera so we can make sure we're not fucking spawning right into bullet and immediately dying. It's all fine and well that it says a current squad member is in combat but it'd be nice to be able to see exactly where a squad mate is before spawning on them. Also raising the squad size to 8 would allow for more spots to bounce around the map. Currently with just 4 it feels limited and it never fails at least one member if playing with randoms is always in a chopper and another is on the furthest edge of the map sniping to help out his K/D cause that matter a ton in Conquest.

-Specialist, hmm. I was very vocal that this would be the downfall of all mankind and we'd need to hit the reset button, not so much. BUT, the best solution that I have found is somehow categorizing them into what would be the traditional Battlefield classes. Then within those categories set specific weaponry that can be used by said specialist to further resemble the classes. People saying they need to just remove all of these and simply slap the former classes back in is not happening, but I think this would be a good compromise and would help with the constant rocket spam/etc and make the specialist feel more unique. This would again take some play testing but I really think the community would enjoy the change for the most part.

-Fuck the post match quips. I'd rather a mechanical boot that kicks me in the dick at the end of each match if it meant I never had to hear this bullshit ever again.

-We NEED server browser and persistent lobbies. I have come across some really good squads who actually coordinate and a single tear starts to form when the match ends. Why this isn't a staple in a modern Battlefield game is fucking absurd and borderline criminal. Especially with how shoddy the current matchmaking can be where you might get lucky and get a good mix of maps or be put on the same one 3 times in a row.

-Sundance T1 is taking too long to unlock. This isn't really a complaint, I just suck at getting the kills required, I'm actually kinda glad there are things to chase to unlock and it doesn't cost money, you know when you see someone with the red/black skin they put in work and earned it. Only 200 kills of the 100,000 I need =*(

I feel like there are other things I am forgetting but regardless that is the majority of my issues currently. Between now and whatever March will bring hopefully will fix quite a few if not everything most of the community reasonably wants. I'd love for some more infantry focused maps, if it is just one map no matter how good it is I fear they will be in for another beating and it'd be hard to defend when looking back on the support previous titles got.

Very good write up.

I have way less playtime than you but agree with all your points. It's fun but what hurts the most is what could have been...

Hopefully the usual BF cycle repeats and we get a competent game after patching.

What's the consensus on which gun is best? I know thr pp-29 or whatever it's called used to be a beast before the next but is there a particular gun that stands out now?

Close and near fights MP9 and K90 are OP. Hip firing on those is as effective as aim down the sight. You just need to have unlocked the high capasity mags. For assault riffles I find AC42 to be the best on longer ranges. Easy to double tab enemies from quite far. SFAR on closer ranges. I mostly use SFAR due to its grenade launcher and K90 when playing aggressive for capping points. Best sniper riffle is SWS-10. Fast reload rate and easy to hit moving targets. 1 hit 1 kill. Secondary are all crap but G57 with the burst seems to do the job best. I dont like the lmg's but PKB seems to be one people are mostly running with. You can fire it from hip effectively and its fire rate is the highest. Best all rounder.

This game has the same problem that most games do today. Higher firerate is better then higher caliber. Even on range.

Ah I should try SFAR. Use the grenade launcher on that and free up my throwable for a proximity grenade.

I'm having fun playing it but EA needs to fix this shit asap.

Players freezing in place after being killed

Players freezing in place only to pop up and kill you.

No voice chat is still a big what the fuck!

Set new control points in breakthrough.

Targeting with solfam or fxa-33 doesn't even work half the time and then randomly locks on instantly.

Rockets and AA misses just doing figure 8's up in the sky

Syrette rounds don't heal on the first hit.

Lack of xp for squad healing, lack of xp for healing anyone. 5xp isn't enough for me to randomly run around for a whole round trying to keep my team alive and somehow a ComBat ribbon is all I get. FOH

It's lost over 90% of its playerbase on steam in two months
ok bud, have you actually looked at the fucking numbers for that series on Steam? Even once?

To say they "lost" anything is to even suggest the majority at any time solely played on Steam, that has never been the case with BF.

BF1 moved 25 million units, did any of you think it was odd that it only had 43k as a peak? No one? Where the fuck was the stories and articles talking about that? Why cherry pick this NOW and be like "lost over" when you can't even find any evidence the ever HAD a real install base on Steam in the first place? Thats like me telling you how badly a Final Fantasy game did on ios as if its the end of the world and pretend as if THAT figure and THAT install base is the final judgement on this or something lol So I agree the game needs to be fixed, but I disagree that the actual numbers you are seeing from Steam have anything to actually do with that.

Did BF1 need to be fixed? Is that why those numbers are complete shit on Steam? hmmmmmmm They don't have a strong Steam community, they never have... the fact that several other IP have lost such an amount, yet moved record units else where should show you such a figure might have more to do with steam and not simply just the title itself, unless BF1 needs to be fixed, Halo needs to be fixed, Call Of Duty needs to be fix, Forza needs to be fixed etc Are you completely fucking sure that is really the case and not just that the install base isn't the majority? =)

Stop cherry picking Steam numbers to force a narrative. This game needs to be fixed and I agree, but I don't believe those numbers have much to do with that as all BF titles have a low install base, just like all Call Of Duties have a low install base on Steam.
So did Forza Horizon 5 and Halo Infinite.

Those games are DOOMED.

^ THIS! lol

I find it funny how quickly people stfu as soon as those games started dropping from Steam, suddenly that whole narrative isn't used for all games like BF, but I knew something was odd about this as I knew that several IP don't do well on Steam, yet I don't see fucking news articles daily telling us about how poor Call Of Duty is selling on Steam or something, its a known thing that certain IP have low install bases on certain platforms, so if you ever wonder why they are making those articles, look up if they are concerned about those low Halo numbers now and where is that fucking "concern" over that shit right now.

Where are their articles talking about Call Of Duties low numbers on steam? lol but hey everyone, we need 10 news stories telling us BF has low numbers on steam as if you didn't have years to tell us that from several BF titles in the past lol

Can someone explain to me why I got to spawn on c2 in kaleidoscope and it starts me off at the bottom of the building, so I then have to take the elevator up to the flag. Why would I, part of the team who has the flag captured, want to be spawned in such a ridiculously exposed area.

Yeah some of top of tower flag spawns do this. I think it's because of too many enemies up on the building. I notice it more on the A tower of Kaleidoscope (128 version) but not on the F towers.

Many flags do this irritating shit. You spawn and it'll throw you on the outskirts of the building or whatever it is the flag resides in. You'll spawn standing out in the open like a muppet. It's terribly designed.

True, there are some very bad spawns. Me and my buddies always make sure we have a few spawn beacons down around the map. Those things are broken compared to past entries. Super small and very quiet, plus they stay the entire game unless the person who placed it spawns on it.

Well, neither BF1 nor V were on Steam until June 2020.

yea how about that. They didn't come day and date huh? Almost as if the publisher knows its not the majority.

They are both the greatest examples that the steam install base is irrelevant to actually gauging the success of a BF or COD.

The BEST selling BF never needed steam day and date, the worst selling BF....never needed Steam and one of the fastest selling BF titles came to Steam day and date. The irony. Stop using this fucking shit data lol Didn't the Call Of Duty games stop coming to Steam too? We should worry about that too or? damn I guess they are going to sell 27 million instead of 30 million DOOOOOOMZ, its overz for them right? oh noez /s

No one think this shit sounds a bit strange when we've never fucking heard this install base used to gauge the success of a game before, yet now magically theses numbers are important? I don't disagree with you regarding BF1 or V, but where the fuck was that thread, article and series of youtube videos showing the concern for those numbers or even not coming to steam at all when those games first came out? ohhhh but we should worry now though cause Youtuber xyz has a shocked face in a thumbnail?

So later tonight they are putting out some complete list and on the 20th the update goes live, they said "We’ll have the complete set of update notes available to browse this evening.""

I hope they fix that thing where a person is killed and you still see them frozen lol I saw that for the first time a few days ago and was laughing my ass off. I also hope they fix that reload issue where the text stays on the screen, though its happening less after the last update, it happening at all needs to be corrected.

I also hate that when you go up those rope things, your character starts reloading

Interesting that there is so many differences what bugs people experience. I play on PC andI I have seen only the people freezing bug but others you mentioned have missed me. Biggest bug for me are

-Cant aim down sight after exiting vehicle
-Hits dont register even though hitmarker says they do
-steering keys also change the viewpoint of the vehicle. Arrow keys are hard binded for view
-loadout keeos resetting
-fps drops when aiming down sight
-ground deformation blocks movement
-matchmaking joins you to matches that are ending

The loadout reset happened to me a few days ago. I don't us it and decided to and made like 2 loadouts, play a few matches and realized it was completely reset and i had to do it over lol

New update coming tomorrow and new scoreboard coming next month.

bf2042-scoreboard-new.jpg
3tw6tja9jsc81.jpg

4 months in and they are at phase 1 of implementing a scoreboard on an online competitive first person shooter in 2022. Phase ONE. Like it's some brain surgery to figure out how to do a scoreboard.

So far their phase 1 scoreboard doesn't show:
- ping
- rank
- DEATHS (my feelings get hurt when people see how many times i've died in a video game... a video game)
- Oh and no, no separate enemy team bracket. Cause we all in this together.

Just imagine seeing your shit K/D ratio, got you going all

Do better, Non-pats feels matter.

LOL!

I don't think it took them 4 months to do, I think it wasn't going to be in the game and was designed without it for some weird feel good, everyone is a winner type thing. So its hard to tell with how long, as we don't really know what this was started, simply that it wasn't going to be in the game based on design or something.

Who knows.

lol I just noticed you don't see the other team. I don't know enough of how they will do it to say if that is removed or not as how would you report a player on the other team?

Even the no deaths thing seems like its trying to keep that concept from the last design and I saw fuck it, if the fucking design didn't work, no concept of what they where trying to do before should be kept, so I'm hoping that with updates Deaths are added.

Nothing the last designer did should be fucking considered after such a shit launch lol Like...nothing.

I do however like the whole thing with show revives and other info like that, but if they are going for a "more info" type thing, deaths need to factor into that. Hopefully that is updated along the way.

Okay so I promised I was going to give a very thorough impression after I reached about 30 hours and turns out I actually put about 70 hours into the game most of which was through the month of December as I didn't have much time in November based on business/school (got my AA degree btw, but a story for another time)

Battlefield 2042 is at least a billion times better than Battlefield 5 and at least a trillion times better than Battlefield 4 and is easily one of the greatest games ever created.....( okay so now that we've got the people who completely dislike the game out of the way, time to go into the actual real impression lol) jk jk

The pros.

2042 does a lot of things well, I generally like a lot of the differences between the characters a lot more than your random generic Soldier an regards to character models and personalities.

I'm also completely okay with the maps in regards to the Interiors as I believe they did a good job making a crazy mix of complex choke points and points of interest where a bunch of chaos converges mainly on breakthrough but I also enjoyed my time with Conquest having those small intimate firefights.

I also enjoy the sniping quite a bit because of all the complex angles you're able to get.

I generally like the classic formula of having a bunch of different people with different abilities going the different points to collect, and being bombarded by vehicles.

So I don't have any problem with the chaos in fact I personally liked it a lot, Breakthrough being one of the best modes filled with pure chaos.

The best aspect of 2042 easily is going to be Portal, I like being able to browse all the crazy matches and see what people come up with and have a complete nostalgia trip. The abilities to remove prone and make it just like Bad Company 2, even the small details like how bipods didn't work in BFBC2 and only added function in BF3 is in the game which is insane detail btw that even I got caught off guard with. I've said this before and I'll say it again....we debate and complain about BF features so much, BF Portal is a must going forward for any BF title as any of us can just make the BF concepts we like and I greatly look forward to see what that mode becomes as I've never seen anything like this in any game, its easily the most positive thing about 2042, to the point where I'd say they should have just made this shit call BF Portal and 2024 maps were the optional content lol Hear me out, Poral has all BF3 maps, BFCB2 maps, add in all BFBC1 maps and all 1942 maps, never do anything with this whole 2042 concept in terms of specialist and you have a very, very unique concept that I think can work if you just have some silly story about an alternate universe where anything goes or something. (Story for another time) lol

The Cons.

This is not the worst Battlefield in history in my opinion being part of many launches but clearly this is not the best either... some of the issues range from minor to complete nonsensical and there's simply no reason to ever release a game in 2021 with such features missing and you must question not only the publisher but the designer because some of these issues are not even technical things but they are things decided by a designer that just doesn't make sense. EA is too big of a publisher to have ever let someone make such odd choices like stopping people from seeing their fucking kills.. I get the want to offer more freedom and I greatly respect that they really are trying in that area, but for fuck sakes, that freedom needs to be LIMITED to the concept and scope of the BASE CONCEPT of what BF actually is.

- played only a few matches the day the game released and my second and third s session morso happen in mid-December when I get more time from school, the saddest part about this is though I understand the game improved significantly based on the updates some of the problems I had the very first day the game was out continue to exist a month later despite multiple updates.

-When you reload it will stay stuck on the screen and when you're low on ammo there's also a glitch where is that will flash on the screen regardless of how much ammo you have.

-The glitch where you can't revive people stuck on a wall Very Much still exist despite not being as prominent as it was at release there isn't any reason on why January of the next year that problem still exists even with the current 3.2 update.

-The problem with shooting a player in them freezing like it's Mister Freeze from Batman stopping people is as persistent as it was a month ago and though the update States a correction of this from my own experience I actually have not seen a big reduction in fact I've seen it just as much as before.

-The animations are god-awful, when reloading your gun there's this weird glitch where the animation is completely taking over your view and by the time you're ready to shoot everything is off center and you need to get out of the scope. What's so weird is the animations for the specialist on those videos before and after the match look completely fine and it's almost as if those characteristics are completely separate from the final in game animations that you get from all the characters.

***The hit detection is easily one of the worst glitches that is happening less frequently after the latest patch but still happening none the less. The weird hitbox issue goes to show how rushed this game was when you're playing something like portal if you shoot in between a power line it's like the power line is a solid brick and you can't shoot in between lmfao. Even something as simple as a tree can completely block a bunch of shots and it's completely unbeknownst to you that it's going on in here you are making all this noise and being spotted on the map only to realize your bullets can't go in between a tree branch lol

-For the love of God I don't understand the stupid ass layout for customizing because after a while you'll come across a glitch where it just resets that stuff and trying to go back into this area mid game is absolutely completely unnecessary in regards to how cumbersome it is. I feel like you're literally fighting the user interface sometimes more than other people with this game.

-This brings me to the biggest point regarding 2042 and that's it's questionable design. The biggest problems with this game I don't think are the glitches ironically I would argue some of those glitches are more so minor compared to the overall design. I have no problem with the specialist because I never had an issue with them in Battlefield 5 I simply questioned why was it not made simply optional for those who wanted to play that way? It's even more questionable because the official classes exist in Portal which means clearly such a concept can co-exist so why would you force one over the other? This is even more strange when you find out the specialist we'll all be free which means Electronic Arts doesn't even have an incentive to sell you those characters so why Force such a concept in which financially you won't even gained much and if anything you would lose lol. I swear to God I don't understand the point of why that was done.

-Speaking of Concepts that can coexist there is no reason to lock weapons to portal because 2042 is the future it means all of those weapons in a universe in which you have no pats that have no allegiance to Any Nation why would it ever matter what specific weapons they were using? It would be completely feasible for them to have the weapons from past Wars especially if they were financially strapped in the first place... put all 75 weapons and all the main games and be done with it I simply don't think anyone would be angry about being able to use all those weapons lol

-I also believe the design of the maps doesn't fit some of the other elements as in I don't mind having large maps because generally Battlefield has had some large Maps simply it would make more sense to increase the number of vehicles given to players so they can get to where they need to get to at the very start or at least make more points of interest more spread out as to lesson that wasted space.

-There was no reason to get rid of that Battlelog thing (I don't recall what it was called btw) where you saw the other Battlefield games in relation to your kills and time spent playing the game etc. I want something to show my stats... this doesn't sound like a mistake this sounds like it's part of the design of there not hurting people's feelings or not wanting the game to be about kill death ratio etc I think the whole thing of having the BFs connected made sense and removing that player stat page was idiotic and I can't see a single positive with that move

-Which clearly brings me to my next point there was no reason to put this game out without a scoreboard, I simply don't understand how that would ever hurt anyone but again that sounds like it has to do with the designer not wanting to hurt people's feelings.

-I don't know if it's a glitch or if I'm doing something wrong but there's no way to properly remove an attachment in menu, I literally had to wait till the glitch reset my load out and then I purposely only put on the sights I wanted to switch between lol. So you could add and you can replace.

-And last but not least navigating around the UI literally feels like you're doing some sort of Metal Gear Solid CQC of unnecessary cumbersomeness.
Be like, I'm going to switch my weapon really quick..oh wait a minute I'm technically switching The Specialist oh wait a minute I'm technically switching the load out lol who the fuck wants to do this in the middle of a match?

Conclusion

I generally don't really give any scores because I feel that's difficult to gauge. This is one of those day one, rent, ignore, free to play lol. For the most hardcore I would say completely fine getting this day one as generally we know as a community this series launches with issues.

For most people I will say this is a deep sale or buy used or wait till it's free to play because if you're not into Battlefield I don't know if all of the headaches are really worth jumping into this one as your first Battlefield. I'd even say this for those who even like BF, that doesn't mean someone is going to like all of those issues or something.

This game had no business releasing fall 2021. At this point Zampella is redesigning 2042 as it probably should have been made originally, I can't even say they're just patching or updating the game at this point we might as well just say they're remaking it as it should have been technically made as some of these problems are not glitches they are completely built into the core design.

I agree stuff like the lack of scoreboard was a design choice. I suspect the intention was to incentivize team cooperation instead of focusing on K/D. I try to play at least one match a day and I'm generally having fun. What hurts the game the most for me is the performance of the game.

They would do better by increasing points for capturing objectives, giving ammo, revives, health, etc.
For example, Insurgency Sandstorm, just gives 10 points for a kill. But it gives 20 points for a kill inside the objective, be it for defenders or attackers.
Doing an objective gives 50 to 100 points, depending on game mode.
This skews the scoreboard to be lead by players that play for the team and the objectives.

Totally agree with you. It's the wrong way to incentivize teamwork.

Writes a lot, says very little

imho, the biggest highlights

Team play will be updated.

They took feedback on the scoreboard and it will be updated over time to address the K/D, seeing the other teams stats etc.

Player Profile returning to show career on Battlefield (not sure if they mean stats shown like in the other BFs or if they mean showing your kills and hours compared to other BF like they do in BFV and BF1 etc, not sure to what degree)

"For team play, you can expect us to incorporate a clearer, tighter squad loop, a refined ping system, and an improved reward loop for when you and your squad play the objective" so it sounds like a lot is being redesigned like we assumed.

Gunplay will be updated and Portal will add more modes and tools, but imho thats kinda moot.

The real meat of this that went under the radar based on sensationalism and click bait shit are really these couple of comments. "Finally, we have a team analysing Specialists and working on them. We’re not quite ready to talk about actions we’ll be taking, but as soon as we are, you will hear from us."

and

"Later this month, this process will kick off with one of our key focus areas, map design. We want to outline to you our vision for how we’re going to approach and factor into our new maps enhancements to the gameplay experience, by addressing feedback on openness and lack of cover in key areas"

and

"Some of these feedback loops will cover bigger areas than others, and some loops will take longer to complete and realise in the game than others. That’s not an indication of how we might prioritise issues with the game, but a reflection on the nature of game development. Changes to our maps and core gameplay will take time."

season 1 will be in Summer

BATTLEFIELD BRIEFING - THE JOURNEY TO SEASON ONE

You’ve waited patiently to hear from us on what we’re doing to address the issues with Battlefield 2042 that you have told us about, and the direction you can expect to see us take in the months ahead. Today we are stating our team's commitment to bring the game up to the highest standards that we all hold for the franchise.
We have heard you. So, we are heavily invested and committed to the future of Battlefield 2042 – working on taking action on multiple fronts to address feedback and implement extensive fixes to the game, key features that are important to you, and getting team play where it needs to be.
We’ve had to make some big decisions to ensure that our next set of updates can be focused on delivering these improvements, with the most substantial one being to move the release date of our first Season to early Summer. This decision gives us the time to focus on improving the Battlefield 2042 experience while finalizing the development of our seasonal content to ensure that it all reaches our standard for quality.

UPCOMING UPDATES

Here’s a snapshot of the features we are bringing into the game as soon as possible:
  • SCOREBOARD - In our next update, we’ll be adding a refreshed in-round Scoreboard alongside further changes we’ve worked on since the holidays. This will be an ongoing evolution from what was shown in the work in progress we shared recently. We have heard your feedback around including two tables and separating your own team versus the enemy, and are working on incorporating that for the release. K/D scoring and End of Round reporting will also be coming in a future update.
  • ALL PLATFORM VOICE COMMUNICATION - The arrival of voice communication (VOIP) is just the start of the improvements we’re bringing to enhance team play and communications.
  • PLAYER PROFILE - Giving you a better overview of your career on the battlefield and how far you have to go for your next unlock.
For team play, you can expect us to incorporate a clearer, tighter squad loop, a refined ping system, and an improved reward loop for when you and your squad play the objective. Gunplay will continue to receive feedback-based improvements too.
Portal remains an integral part of the game and we will continue to expand its tools, modes, and tweak player experience gains. Finally, we have a team analysing Specialists and working on them. We’re not quite ready to talk about actions we’ll be taking, but as soon as we are, you will hear from us.

A NEW FEEDBACK LOOP

We’re committed to pushing up the quality of the game, both through our updates, and how rapidly we will respond to critical issues in the live environment. We are also going to clarify the direction we’re taking, and what’s motivating our decisions to bring improvements to the game. So expect to get more insight as we expand our existing feedback loops to involve you, our players, more directly.
Our team has identified several areas we’re targeting for improvements. This is how we will be incorporating your feedback going forward:
  1. We will present specific, major focus areas to you along with our current thinking, detailing where we’re planning to make changes.
  2. We’ll then take the time to observe and listen to the conversations that you go on to have about both the area of concern and our proposals for adjustment.
  3. Later, you’ll hear from us on the topic again but this time your feedback will have been factored into our consideration and guided the decisions made for improvements.
These conversations will be centralised, and accessible here on the Battlefield website, and summarised across our channels.
Later this month, this process will kick off with one of our key focus areas, map design. We want to outline to you our vision for how we’re going to approach and factor into our new maps enhancements to the gameplay experience, by addressing feedback on openness and lack of cover in key areas.
Big topics like map design will be loud and broadly shared, but for more nuanced areas of the game (such as Portal logic) we may have those conversations on smaller scales. The important part here is that all these conversations will happen publicly, and with everyone invited to take part.
Some of these feedback loops will cover bigger areas than others, and some loops will take longer to complete and realise in the game than others. That’s not an indication of how we might prioritise issues with the game, but a reflection on the nature of game development. Changes to our maps and core gameplay will take time.
Our commitment is to explain our reasoning behind future decisions and to make sure you understand where we stand on your feedback. We want you to see more of the big picture of where we’re going and incorporate more of what we’re already hearing to ensure that our work is meaningful to you.
We’ll start this process ahead of the launch of our next update. You’ll read about it here on our website when we start these conversations, and if you’re already following Battlefield across social media, you won’t miss it when we do.

LOOKING AHEAD TO SEASON ONE

When Season One arrives in early Summer, it will mark the start of a year where we’ll deliver four Seasons, four new Specialists, and new locations along with more completely new content. We know that this release is later than anticipated for many of you who purchased the Year 1 Pass as part of the Gold and Ultimate Editions. To acknowledge and thank you for your patience and continued support, those players will receive an exclusive bundle containing a Specialist skin, weapon and vehicle skins, a melee weapon and Player Card, all to be delivered in the next update.

This is a funny surprise. DICE is asking of feedback to correct the massive maps in 2042. So it sounds like they are trying to remake, redesign, reboot the game or something as this doesn't sound like some simple update.

"Traversal

One of the core issues we have identified is Traversal. We both see, and have heard your frustrations on how long it takes on maps today to travel between Flags, or from Base Spawn to Flag. This comes as a result of the introduction of 128 players in combination with some of the biggest maps that we’ve ever created as playspaces. While the larger maps offer more playspace and freedom, a side effect is that gameplay is now spread out more, resulting in an overall increase in time to combat when related to playing the objective.

We’ve seen you use terms such as “Walking Simulator” to describe how this feels in-game. We understand that this isn’t a satisfying experience and agree that there’s too much overall travel time.

We’re currently looking to reduce the overall travel time between Flag and Base Spawn on some maps by moving both the Base Spawn, and closest Flags. We’ve already identified a number of obvious candidates that fall outside of our new expected behaviours, but we want to hear from you on this topic as well. Which maps presently provide a poor opening experience because of the location of the Base Spawn? Which maps are making it harder to get back into the fight in an all cap scenario? Later on in the post, we’ll share a link to a general feedback thread that we’ve opened up to capture some of this feedback, but don’t be shy to have these conversations out amongst other hubs of Battlefield Community. We’re out there monitoring the conversations and are keen to hear what you have to say.

Intensity

Another area that we’ve identified where we feel that we can improve your gameplay experience is in the overall Intensity of combat. Largely, we feel that this issue is mainly related to 128 player modes, and especially in Breakthrough. We know that during certain pushes for the objective, it can get too chaotic when fighting over Flags; either there are too many players, or vehicles, and sometimes the overall chaos can make it feel overwhelming when accurately trying to assess what’s happening around you.

In terms of improvements, we are presently reviewing if it makes sense to keep Breakthrough as 128 players vs 64, or if we feel that a reduction of the total number of vehicles that can spawn ensures that their presence isn’t as overwhelming, and gives infantry players a more important role. In the leadup to the Holidays, we introduced 64 player Breakthrough, and recently made some changes to the ticket values across the mode based on behaviors we were seeing in the final objective phase. Right now, we feel that Breakthrough on 64 players provides the best experience of Breakthrough.

But we also want to hear from you around the Intensity of the experience on Breakthrough. How do you feel about the current balance between Infantry and Vehicles on the mode? Have you played 64 player Breakthrough, and do you feel that this is the better way to experience the mode? We’re still in the process of working towards our next phase of improvements for the mode, and we’d like to incorporate as much of your feedback as possible into that process.

Line of sight

Line of sight is another topic that we've received plenty of feedback on. When we refer to line of sight, we’re relating this to how often you’re taking fire from enemies at distance. We feel, and have heard from you, that there are presently too many open and flat spaces on some of our maps, which puts too much focus on direct long-distance combat between objectives. We largely see that feedback aimed at certain areas in Kaleidoscope, but have observed discussion on other areas of our maps as well.

Our current plan for improvement is to ensure there are more opportunities to hide yourself from enemy line of sight while traversing from objective to objective, with a goal of ours being to reduce the focus on long-range combat, and the necessity of carrying weapons which perform best in these ranges.

As shared earlier, we presently feel that Kaleidoscope is an obvious offender for line of sight challenges, and are already making passes internally on improving certain areas of the map, including re-designing our Breakthrough experience to move combat into areas of the map where better cover already exists. What we’d like to hear from you is on which maps and Flags you see the most immediate need for more line of sight blockers. Knowing this will help us to best prioritize the work that we go on to do in parallel with other changes, and ensure that we’re addressing the next biggest offenders in good order.

Paths

Another feedback area of focus is not having clear Paths towards objectives, and the lanes that players are most commonly traveling in when moving between objectives. Without a clear intended path, enemy fire is more often coming in from all possible angles. We recognise that when you’re defending, this can make it difficult to hold the objective, and when on the attack, we see players exposing themselves on bad lanes in bids to push for a flag.

We’re presently looking to bring improvements into the paths that we have on our maps, to make clearer and more defined paths while traveling between objectives in order to keep combat focused, and to make it easier to understand how to get from one objective to the next. If you have thoughts or examples that align to those goals, please don’t be shy to show us. These can be as basic as extracting a 2 minute clip of you moving from flag to flag, and calling out to us the experience you had whilst doing that (good or bad), or discussion of specific areas that you feel are presently lacking good pathing, or are the best examples of where this is currently strongest.

Cover

Lastly, and similar to line of sight, the current lack of cover across maps is another improvement area which is also caused by the open and flat spaces that you have encountered on certain maps. While we are trying to limit direct long-range combat between objectives, we’re also looking to ensure sufficient cover for when you are traveling between the objectives.

We are looking to address this by reviewing the need for additional cover in places where we feel that they’re needed. In line with what has been discussed in some of our other focus areas, our intent is to reduce the likelihood of being fired at from a 360 degree angle, and to take away that Hail Mary feeling of running onto no man’s land between objectives.

If you have any specific areas on maps that are currently standing out to you which lack cover, then we’d love to hear from you."

The craziest shit is this...

"When can we expect these planned improvements to be live in-game?

The plans that we’ve outlined to you today will require substantial development time, so we want to be transparent that not all of these proposed changes will be available to you in-game simultaneously across all of our library of maps."

So that theory on them rebooting it ala FFXIV seems to be more true then we thought, if they can pull it off remains to be seen.

If only they would have listened to players from the beta they might have been able to divert disaster even if it meant a long delay

This.

Its what makes this situation even more weird cause its like, how can we trust what is being stated right now, when this feedback was given during the beta in the first place?

EA be like "Ok, this time, really, really...REALLLLLY we are doing da feedback thing" lol

So i believe they really are taking that into account as as the game already sold millions and they are not getting the same return compared to launch, but I question if that lessor incentive won't effect if they really mean this or not. Only time will tell if this ends up a No Man Sky or FFXIV reborn situation. BF has always had great support long term, but this shit boarders a fucking reboot at this point.

We are not even talking about a few bugs getting fixed and we good, the design literally needs to be redone to a great degree.
