Battlefield 2042 | Review Thread

I'm happy to see Portal becoming a success, would be nice to have more maps from more games on it. Also 7 maps for the main game isn't going to cut it. I'd rather have 64 players and twice the number of maps.

what does that even mean people? i read this shit all the time.

"i played this game since jesus was alive back in the year 0"

so what? does this value your opinion more or what is it?
Yes because people who actually played previous Battlefield's know what game is really about. I'm so sick and tired of Battlefield ALWAYS trying to be more like other games, now like Apex and COD.BF always had its own IDENTITY and people played it because it was different than any other fps game.

Its obvious lot of quality people left DICE after BF1/BF5,this just feels like some chinese wannabe copy of Battlefield that tries to be AGAIN something else like cod and apex.
Map design is terrible, everything is just so souless, like the maps are designed for battleroyale not conquest.
How the fck can someone work in a AAA company and make UI like this, and this actually pass the testing?? How the fck..

I think its a trend to dislike this game… its the cool thing to do…but i guess Call of duty vanguard was a smash hit! This game is awesome but it needs optimizations, This game is just plain fun IMO.
Hmm… or maybe… just bear with me a second here… a significant amount of people actually just don’t enjoy this game? Crazy idea, I know…nahhh nvm, you’re right, it must just be BF2042 getting cancelled.

For almost a day I couldn't login and was greeted with persistant data error , read on forums that if u use ur mobile hotspot it will work , and volla with my mobile internet I got in.
This is the state of this released game, hate cod as much as u want but cod comes every year with a solid campaign , zombies , update to br and multiplayer
After so many years of so many battlefields, it's mindbogling how they keep fucking up with the basics of things
I mean 20 years of battlefield and this is the evolution of the Ui after 20 years ?
Sadly I think this is the end of dice and battlefield, pretty sure ea will shut them down in a year or 2

Game feels off, granted I only played 2 games. But just feels off.

Seen the AR spread is bugged, that explains a lot but the cars feel unresponsive and I got mad hitching a lot. (Think that was server lag though)

With 100+ folk on a server it still felt barren 😂 I was expecting all out warfare, shit blowing up left right and centre, folk flying through the air after being blown up eg… instead it’s me running for 5 minutes 😂
(Before I realised there was a tactical sprint)

problem is, yes they increased player count but they also increased the map sizes....

so you end up with not feeling the increase to player count, yet having to track ages between flags if the one you are at is not very populated. I really think this is the worst Conquest BF

i literally put on the Xbox One version of the game so i can play on smaller versions of the maps with 64 players :messenger_tears_of_joy: i genuinely had more fun, plus no PC crossplay!

The rumors that this game began as a BR are looking more true every time i play the game.

Also the UI seems suspiciously built for touch controls. Somethings up with this game…. I beg my fellow gaffers please skip this game. Its so low effort.

Been playing the early access on PC. The performance is total dog arse. Got a 3600XT with a 2070 Super. Averaging 55 to 70fps, no matter what settings I tweak. All other games, can easily get 140+ on max settings in 1080p.

Going to look into more later but so glad I didn't splash out on this.

Yea because people can't actually be disappointed with a big AAA game missing basic shit like voice chat lol.

From what I've played and seen here it seems the best part of the game is Portal which says a lot.

I really want to like this game and there are times when I'm actually having a lot of fun, but it clearly isn't ready for release and they should've just delayed it and worked on it further.

What I'm most confused about are the reviews, they don't reflect the reality at all.

Edit: on the plus side this is going to be $20 in a month.

Smaller maps. Lower player count and this would be worth playing.

Encountered the weapon bug where you stuck with whatever weapon you chose at the beginning of the game for the whole match. Fucking annoying.

Nothing looks special about this game. Portal is more fun than the main game. Thank god for that or this would have been a train wreck of a launch.

EDIT: The most fun I've had on this game is Portal mode.

So far I have more fun with the Portal modes, I hope they remake more of the legacy maps. I was pleasantly surprised by that mode and the overall concept and what it might mean for the future. Will this be the new model where previous versions of Battlefield can be played in whatever the latest release is, using Portal mode? And then the fact that it contributes to progress, well done. That's a customer friendly game design right there. It's a shame about the technical problems though. In particular I'm seeing bad frames in the 128 player modes, I think this might be network or server related rather than a client side issue though.

Let's not forget that all we get per season is maybe one new map for the all out war modes and probably 1 to 2 maps for Portal. Throw in a weapon here and there and then Dice is gonna present themselves as the big provider of content. I love Battlefield but I hate BF 2042 and everything about it since u crybabies complained about premium passes. It's your fault.

No, its DICE's fault. And EA. They choose this path.

They could develop more maps as well. They are chosing not to.

Honestly i was a big fan of the Premium system in bf3 and 4. 5 expansions with 4 maps each? Worth the price.

I am having fun so far, There are always thing I wish games did different but overall I only judge games on whether I have fun and I am. I played a few hours in a team deathmatch 48 player server last night on BF3 and BFBC2 map rotation and it was awesome.

I do like the new game also but at first play it seems to lack an identity with all the empty map space but once you get into more dense areas it gets pretty good.

My biggest critique is DICE keeps pushing bigger is better and I think Battlefield hits its stride with 64 players on maps designed for that player count. Someone at EA/Dice has a size fetish. This is why Portals is what will save thins game in the end. There is something special there. especially if they keep adding older maps.

Yes. So much this. Not my fault that people can't afford premium passes. U broke ass motherfuckers preach about better work conditions but then want premium pass content for free. So u have all these workers then, who u pretend to care about, putting in all this extra work without getting paid. Ask yourselves then... would u? No. It's the hypocrites who we have to thank for this mess.

I was expecting mostly 6s for this. It's an OK game but it needs more game modes, some smaller maps/modes and they have quite a few bugs/glitches that need ironing out. I'll play it because I have no other online mp games to play but it's definitely one of the worst bf games I've played.

Check out portals and select community games. It puts up a playlist of community created game.. Your XP for each game is capped to prevent people from cheating. But there is where you will find smaller maps, and more game modes. I had a blast in some.
Although I due hope they will have more game modes in the official rotation soon when the game officially launches.

Game is really good and 100 times more fun than BFV

Fuck the haters. Seriously. People praising BFV have no clue how V was when it launched, missing half of its features, broken maps, broken systems, broken gameplay and bugs bugs bugs

This game feels more polished (albeit still a buggy mess but when it comes to Battlefield launches this one has been the smoothest so far)

The two real problems right now are server stability and performance.

I see many people not being able to play the game rn bc its poorly optimized and servers like to die often, especially in Breakthrough when the entire server is focused on one zone.

I suggest to stay away from Breakthrough until devs fixed that server issue

Some of the maps are too open for "all out warfare", and this isn't a new thing to BF. Some maps are large but tight (city maps), some are pretty open focusing the action around control points. Doesn't matter if you put 100+ players on a map if there are a dozen or so places for everyone to be.
How can anyone look at this and say "yeah that's a good Battlefield!"

A lot of those complaints are valid and more than a few just are nitpicking nonsense. The bit about specialists vs classes is particularly hilarious as they are LITERALLY arguing for less customization in their "takedown" of BF2042. Completely wild.

Moments of greatness, but the game should have been delayed further. Too many features missing. Where the bell is voice chat?! Scoreboards? UI is cumbersome. Maps seem really good and accommodate 128 players well. Conquest feels a little overwhelming at times, but hazard zone has potential. Portal will likely carry this game if it continues to get support and maps/weapons.

This game is so broken and unplayable. Also a lot of idiotic changes, "Just because." It was also one of the worst betas I've played in recent time.

Game is far from unplayable. In fact, other than the server issue on Friday, I (along with the squad I play with) have had no issues playing. Zero crashes as well.

One can just as easily make a list of positive things about the game and straight up improvements over past titles. Not to mention some of those points listed are straight up incorrect.

Also, just because someone is enjoying the game and posting positive things doesn't mean they are paid by EA or are shilling. That's a stupid assumption.

You not having issues, does not equate to others, I'm having a lot.

I only got it because my buddies play it. Game is a POS and not worth the price at all. It's a $20 game.

Huge battlefield fan here since 1942 but not feeling it. The new maps and core just feels so completely soulless after having played 3 rounds. Portal is a lot better, but that's not really saying much.

I know the community is divided by BF1, but they really succeeded with the ambience. This is just so...boring.

That's fine, you don't have to like it. Plenty of people don't and plenty do.

For me I'll easily get the value out of it for what I paid.

Here are my thoughts on this game for what it is worth:

First off I am a big battlefield fan and I have played and enjoyed every game in the series (even hardline!). I am also pretty good a BF games in particular 3-4 KD (Blah blah blah).

Conquest: Passible but the maps are a little too big which leads to lots of down time. Also, because of the size of the maps conquest is even more sniper heavy than previous titles. IMO Conquest is a dated mode that hasn't been good since BF4.

Breakthrough: OMG this is an incredible mode and IMO is the best battlefield game mode. Its like rush but 10 times better as it borrows from conquest as well. The matches feel more cinematic and "war-movie-like" with non-stop chaos going on at a well defined front line. The attacking team really needs some teamwork to push through as popping smokes, and moving cover to cover is paramount to advance on the entrenched defense. There isn't a better Multiplayer experience out there. Sadly BF 2042's breakthrough has some problems as well. For one, the devs made the idiotic mistake of putting capture points on top of buildings in a mode were the defense has enough players (64) to cover every point of entry. Making it impossible for the attackers to actually advance, or even get into the capture point. Secondly, the devs put capture points too close together on many maps and have too many segments where there is only one capture point.

Hazard Zone: Amazing with a group of 4 friends, terrible solo with randoms. Dice didn't include voip in a 2021 title which will kill this mode dead. Complete misfire. Also, there needs to be more incentive to play Hazard Zone, and it needs more depth. Its like they wanted to make a Hunt the Showdown but not upset people too much when they die. Like, Fuck DICE, take a risk please! Make death actually matter and stop coddling people. This could be the next big thing if DICE and EA were willing to ignore the casuals for once.

Portal: Fun, though I haven't played it much. Real cool playing BC2 rush in 2021 though.

I am having a blast with 2042 but i have to admit that DICE crashed the landing. This game is not even close to finished, has glaring balance issues, bugs, server problems, map design issues, and a whole host of missing features and QOL stuff.

Issues Off the top of my head:

- Why is there a 1 shot sniper rifle in this game?
- Who though immortal hovercraft was a good idea? (I got 70 kills as a gunner in a hovercraft one match lol)
- The two shot DMR (SVK) is fun to use but not fun to get obliterated by
- It seems all assault rifles have an accuracy bug that makes them terrible compared to other guns? I haven't really been bothered by this but others have mentioned it.
- If you get downed and any part of your body is touching a wall you cannot be revived.
- Sometimes you die and cannot respawn or be revived.
- Distance physics objects and animations can be hella choppy.
- Everything revolving around locking onto air craft with AA feels like shit
- why was leaning removed?
- Why is there no voip?

Things I Love about this game:
- Breakthrough feels epic
- Hazard Zone with a group is fun
- the gunplay, particularly, the sniping, feels really good

Things I like about this game
- The specialists. No lie, I really like them. McKay and Sundance especially are fun as hell and add a new dynamic to a stale formula. Some of the shit I have pulled with McKay on Manifest is now legendary among my friends. Dude is a flank master.
- The guns. I really like the near future aesthetic.

Things I loathe:
- The UI. It sucks, like really bad. I don't understand how a AAA developer allowed this to be released. Its amature shit. The in game map is something you would see in a developers first $4 game on steam. Same for the "Social" screen. Completely embarrassing shit from DICE. If I was a UI Dev I would not put this game on my resume. The UI in "the Cycle: Frontier" is leagues better and that game is barely in beta. I mean fucking jesus guys.
- The servers. Sigh, its not as bad as BF4 but its much worse than 5 and 1.
- The bugs. Game flat out isn't finished.
- The balance issues. Broken guns, hunter killer hovercraft, horribly placed capture points in breakthrough... Why DICE why?

I will never understand why DICE doesn't do closed beta tests with ALL of their maps and modes. Like, if this game got proper testing it would be in a great state. Its obvious nobody played it that wasn't a yes man because otherwise there is no way the game would have launched in this state. Its honestly baffling, these guys are supposed to be professionals.

That said playing this game is the most fun I have had in a video game all year and I cannot wait to go home and play more. Not because it is a game of the year, but just because it is damn fun. Gonna enjoy the broken guns and absolutely slaying noobs on launch day. Will be a slaughter ;) .

It's hard to connect to games. Persistent whatever error.

The UI glitches and I can't see what weapons and perks are selected.

I've had games where my [4] equipment, e.g. recoilless rifle, C5, just doesn't exist. I can't select it. It doesn't appear in the UI. WTF?

After remapping my buttons, despite things NOT being double mapped, certain actions end with my character pulling out the knife. The T thing for changing weapon attachments does this, and at the same time I have V mapped to the reinforcements tablet or whatever and it happens there. To be clear my melee is unbound on keyboard, it's on Mouse4. I tried adding a dummy binding for keyboard on some key I will never use and that didn't fix it either. It's annoying for the attachments thing as I have to switch back to my weapon. But it breaks the tablet thing, it will cancel the prompt on where to deploy something unless you spam click through it before the knife comes out.

The reload button isn't responsive. When I do my COD reloads (i.e. reloading after every kill) I have to tap it twice. It's like I'm locked out from pressing reload for some time after I stop shooting. Don't think I've ever had a game where the reload felt like this.

The helicopter weapons fire stupidly slow. Using the smart rockets is pure torture. And you can seemingly land every single one in the back of a tank and not see any indication they did any damage. Maybe the later weapons don't suck as much, after all that's kind of Battlefield's thing lately for some reason... torturous upgrade progression for vehicles that comically punish anyone who didn't grind them out in the first couple of weeks.

It has its stretches where it's fun but... it's going to be really hard for me to bother loading this up again before they patch some of this.

This is another TLOU II IMO...."ITs DifferenT Th3N the 0ld 0N3 lol" Seriuosly its better than Call of duty this year...

Have some standards.

So much this. It’s BF Bad Company 3 we needed or a remake of 2.
Smaller maps with destructible environments. BF destruction has been in decline since BFBC2.

I bought this game. Portal is a blast and I like Hardzone, but everything else feels like a wasted opportunity.

Finally managed to play a little bit and yeesh. I was perfectly fine with the beta minus some things they could've fixed, but this... what did they do? They fucked up the gunplay and guns and the maps are too big. Whatever that open beta map was, with the rocket launch was a fine size. Big enough but with areas of nicely sized fire fights.

agree. or 96 players. AND SMALLER MAPS. it's not fun spending long spans running to find enemies. capping and clearing a point and then having to go to the other side of the map to have another engagement. i realllllly want to love this game but after all weekend, the frustration and rage is growing.

Don't get sucked into running everywhere. Use transport vehicles. They are labeled on the large map and you can call them in with the laptop.
