Battlefield 4 PC performance thread

I have GTX-680 SLI (2gb). Battlefield 3 would push my cards pretty hard at my 1600p resolution. Is this game even more demanding? Will I still be able to do ultra settings?

EDIT:

So much this! Also HBAO+ not only looks better, it's faster!

I'm running at i7 3770K @ 4.5 Ghz and two GTX 680's in SLI. With shadowplay running in the background and SSAO (HBA murders my frame rate if I have Vsync on) and at 2560x1440p. 2x MSAA + High PostAA, everything else set to ultra and I'm getting a smooth 60 FPS with dips into the 40's only twice so far in the single-player.

Man this game looks ridiculously good at times.

Interesting. This is pretty close to my set up (although I have 1600p). Won't be using shadowplay. I suppose either way, it looks like I'll be fine with this game.

What fps do you require?

Cinematic™ 24 or Excessive™ 60 ?

Anyone else have their ambient sound cut out while playing? I had it happen during a couple games last night. I remember there being a similar bug in BF3.

I don't get any of that, but the sound will sometimes distort like I am listening to it on a blown out speaker during loud scenes. Definitely something needs to be fixed in the audio department.

It appears that BF4 will be the title that finally puts my Q6600/4 gigs RAM/GTX 570 out to pasture ;p

Time to hit the PC upgrade thread!

I just like to hit 60 FPS because my monitor isn't 120hz. I dunno, anything above 60 FPS I can't tell on a non 120hz monitor (personally).

I was hitting 60 FPS easily on BF 3 with my rig though. I'm just curious if this game is even more intensive. Was only hitting 30-40 FPS on Crysis 3 on Ultra (but that was when it first came out, before driver revisions. Haven't played since). My worry is memory, because BF3 and Crysis would push my memory right up to its limit. Thinking maybe I might have to tick down some settings with this game.

I really regret getting 680s in SLI at 2gb. Should have just went with 4gb back in the day. I'll probably make a jump to 6gb cards next year.

Yes, I've experienced that a couple of times as well. It will cut out and then gradually come back in once I got into heavy combat.

Yeah, I was wondering about this too.

Man, I'm also super curious to see how the mobile people are running this. My 680m is a beast of a laptop card but still, it's no 680 or 7950 so I'm still torn between this version or the PS4 one.

Anyone have info on how the 680m/7970 is running? I'm interested in this as well.

Maybe. 2GB is going to be the limiting factor @ 1600p in BF4. I'm glad I opted for 4GB 680s. I see my VRAM usage going over 2GB easy.

I suspect you're just being silly. I can get by on 24 screenshotting single player... but that is insta-death in multiplayer. 45-60 is sort of the "required to be competitive" range for me.

genuinely shocked by how good performance is. High hundreds for much of the campaign.

Yeah I screwed up getting 2gb 680s in SLI, no doubt about that. Battlefield 3 ran 100 FPS + for me in MP and 65-80 FPS in Single Player. But the VRAM was always pushed up to the 2.2gb limit. Was pretty intense. (*Note, I haven't played BF3 in a long time, so I'm remembering these numbers off the top of my head. I do know two things for sure: I. I hit over 60 FPS in both SP and MP and II. My VRAM was pushed up to the limit).

But yeah, fuck. I guess I'll try this out later today.

So I finally got this mother to run:

I7 3770k Stock
680gtx 2GB Stock
8GB Ram
Ultra Everything

I played a bit of single player and had steady 60fps, minus large alpha effects. I heard mp is more lenient so I'm pretty positive about the whole thing. But I'm not really getting the 'next gen' vibe off it. Probably because I've run into a fair bit of ugly textures.

Edit: And it's fucking next gen now. Get some parallax mapping on this shit already!

For those with 2GB of VRAM: relax. If BF4 is like BF3, then it's got dynamic VRAM caching/allocation so it knows how to adjust VRAM usage optimally for your card.

I'm not sure if this is the right thread to as this, but it's pretty much a PC-related question.

I'm guessing that the queuing/VIP priority reserved slot functionality has not yet been enabled?

will I be able to get 40 FPS on ultra maxed out with some average AA? 670GTX + i5-2500k here.

This is what I have. Is it really that smooth? 60 fps? 1080P? Even in multiplayer?

The beta for me was completely unplayable at the lowest possible setting.

Have the same setup (though I have a 3570K OC) and you should be getting 60 with dips in the 40s whenever those "Leavetions" or whatever they're called happen. No MSAA though.

That's also my performance in the beta with a pretty old driver (320.49), full release + the new drivers should give more bump in performance, or at least I hope.

Anyone compared the performance/quality of 1080p with all AA enabled vs resolution scale (downsampling) with no AA enabled?

Guess my card will have to do for now till i pick up x2 GTX 680's 4GB end of the year.

How is SLI for games? Is it worth the effort or am i wasting money

SLI is fantastic for games. You are not wasting money on a second card.

Yeah. That's the impression I got from the beta as well. I'm only running Crossfire 5850s with 1GB and it seemed to manage well without AA @1440p. There's some wizardry in the coding.. but I'm probably dynamically losing quality and not realizing it regardless of settings due to the vram allocation.

7970 Twin Frozr OC BE and I5 4670K. 7970 is oc to 1125 gpu clock and 1565 memory clock. Still, I'm getting drops like this on open areas. Everything Ultra, 1080p.

I guess this is normal on single player, right?

I would OC the CPU. There should be tons of OC potential for an i7 920. With your performance using a 290X, I'm sure the CPU at default clocks is bottlenecking your machine.

right now im having some issues i think due to heat with the 290x playing around with the settings once im totally stable ill look into OCing

i get 60+ fps 80% of the time just on a couple of the maps when i look at a wide open space it will dip a little

So does this game have that issue were the first time you load the game ( after a computer reset) it takes A LONG time for the game to load, like in the beta and BF3?

I can see why but the thing is 0 other games I play have this issue ( the time it takes to get into a bf3 game, half the battle in BFBC2 would be done basically)

This isn't a HDD issue, it's DICE.

I had loading issues in the beta. I would be the last person to join and all the capture points would be taken by the time I was in the match. I haven't had this issue with the retail version, if that was the issue you are talking about.

dude you have almost the exact setup I'm looking for

could you pretty please do a fraps benchmark with MSAA off and the default FOV?

If someone can confirm how controller support is in SP I will bite the bullet on payday.

This thread has given me faith that my 7870XT@1100 should be fine.

Thanks for the Afterburner recommendation, guys! I haven't tested it extensively, but the mouse stutter appears to be completely gone. Now playing on high settings and wondering how much more I can get away with!

This thread has given me faith that my 7870XT@1100 should be fine.

That's what I'm running and it's beautiful. Should get even better with Mantle.

I asked this in the OT, forgot this thread, so here it is...

Aight PC guys - I downloaded BF4 last night and set everything to ultra. Used the console to show my fps, but that made me wonder... What should I be doing to figure out the best settings? I mean, I know more fps is better, but on my setup I noticed it going down to 25-30 in areas with a bunch of geometry or a lot of explosions on the screen. Should I be knocking my visual settings down in order to increase those dips? Or is it all a judgement call (I know the fps dropped, but it didn't bother me too much because I'm used to some stutter playing on the last gen consoles). When I was just walking/running around I was getting 40-60 fps. Any advice? Nothing is OC at the moment.
