Battlefield 4 PC performance thread

Was messing around with the resolution scale and set it to 125% and turned AA off. Looks so much clearer (to me) and I really prefer it. You'd think it would be jaggy ridden yet it's not and as good as 4x but without the blur. At first it wasn't a huge improvement until I took screen shots and compared. I can see people easier now as well as a added bonus. Even got called a hacker when I was destroying people in the trees/hills with my tank that didn't have INV optics.

I keep a FPS of around 60+ at all times unless something crazy happens and being BF it does on occation. Having a 60Hz monitor it doesn't matter if I get 80+ and typically keep vsync on.

Anyone else gets stuttering?

the joke is i get constant 60 fps but the game feels very clunky and heavy ..its like i play with 15 fps.

I get stuttering. Even when I turn down settings and get 40+ fps there is still stuttering.

So I am like fuck it I'll just play at 20 fps.

When I got the game I just cranked everything to Ultra except post-processing AA which is the work of the devil.

Just crank up the in-game option for super-sampling.

I was just playing a round on Paracel Storm and my CPU usage jumped up to 100% and it turned into a slideshow... anyone else have that happen?

120? good lord. Anything above 95 is horrible to me

I have to keep mine around 70-75. It's vertical, so that comes out to around 105 horizontal.

How's your performance when doing that vs using post AA?

I see post AA as the option to use if your hardware isn't enough to use supersampling or MSAA. It's blurry as all hell so it still might even be a good idea.

I go with with my native resolution (1920x1080) + 150% resolution scale + 2xMSAA. That's as high as I can go and still maintain 50-60 FPS. Any lower than that and I feel like my framerate puts me at a disadvantage in a gun-fight. I still see aliasing though

Has anyone tried this on a lesser PC and could tell me how it runs?

It runs well on my HTPC but I wouldn't mind having a go on my desktop PC for KBAM controls.

Specs:
i3-2120
8GB DDR3 1333MHz
6850 1GB

My monitor is 1080p so Id like to run it at native res but I don't mind low settings.

Also, rather than re downloading 25gb can I copy the game folder, will Origin pick it up?

Thanks

Running at 60FPS on my 680 on ultra with AA turned off at 1440p. The higher resolution makes the lack of AA a little more bearable.

i5-2500k

Game runs perfectly fine at 1920x1200, 60FPS constant with default Ultra on. Bumping it up to 1600p puts me in the 45 FPS range, around there. I am fucking fed up with the game crashing and just generally being a piece of shit though.

Just venting here but I think this is the last gen I invest in high end PC parts. All this money just to play stupid shooter games with too many dazzling effects. I've spent more time dicking around with this game's settings than actually playing it.

4x MSAA > downsampling. Just find a small antenna in the distance and with MSAA, small lines are more defined.

I had problems with that, turning off hyper threading solved it completely. The only problem I have now is long load times.

Wait, single Titan? You got rid of your second one?

It's been gone for a while now. Mkenyon helped me move it. At the time I was going to use the funds to offset the costs of a new TV, but that didn't happen. In a twist of fate I'm now trying to decide if I want to get a second hand Titan or flip mine and go 780ti SLI.

But..just set it on Ultra and be done? Why are you dicking around if you're already at 60fps? And I don't think your high end GPU has too much to do with the game crashing at the moment, DICE is just being DICE until they get a patch out.

Weird. I see no sharpening at all.

Made a gif of it

It becomes sharper and grainier with res scaling

There, I got my dual screen setup with 1920x1200 resolutions.

40-60FPS at all time, so far.

Sorry for the blurry picture, I don't have very steady hands.
Couldn't you use the second screen for the map? I assume there's little to no performance hit for that.

Good position to be in. The TITANs will be great cards in the used market...as I imagine a lot of folks will be dumping theirs to go 780 Ti. If you decided to go the other route, I'd wait for the 6GB Tis, minimum...unless you're going to upgrade right away at Maxwell's release...then it probably doesn't matter...

I'm not even sure what I would do if I were you. Tough call. The Tis are sounding awesome but that price...sure makes the 290X look awesome.

Not my pics but man ....fix your shit DICE.

Anyone know what program he's using?

What graphical settings and AA solution would I be looking at in order to get the game at a locked 60FPS @ 1080p on a 780 and an i7 960 with 8GB ram?

...also on an unrelated note: is the SP worth a shit this time around?

I don't know why but when I tried to do that, the game took a big fps hit. Did you do anything special to avoid a performance drop?

Q6600
560ti 2GB edition
8GB ram
1680x1050 res

I can run it with almost everything on Ultra, only tried campaign. It goes from maybe 25fps in heavy shit to 60 fps in sections like walking around the boat, hell i even got 60fps now doing the tank driving mission.

I'm running fine on high but when the sides of Hainan Resort collapse I get a brief slideshow and then back to normal. Wonder if I should try to do something about that, could it be tied to a specific setting?

Mine is pretty stable with the odd small spike here and there.. I'm actually super impressed with how smooth and well this runs, unfortunate for those that aren't getting the same experience.

How are peoples 2500k's faring?

I've got my overclocked to 4.6GHZ at the moment and it's at 100% load all of the time while BF4 is running.

Constant stuttering in game rendering the game practically unplayable. I only have 4GB of RAM but thats sitting at around 89% load during gameplay so I presume my CPU is bottlenecking.

Mine is doing great - same OC as yours. But I'm on Windows 8.1 so no problems. Also, 16GB of RAM...and it's powering R9 290X's in Crossfire.

Mine sits at around 75% during gameplay... (I have 8GB of RAM) and I believe there was benchmarks earlier showing a 2500k (i5 if I'm correct in assuming that's what you mean) doing 60FPS on ultra, 1920x1080. So I don't believe the CPU is a bottleneck though I could be wrong.

I have a 2500K and in the beta i had ZERO problems running the game on high, even ultra ran fine but dipped to 30fps at times. I have 16Gb of ram and a 570 tho. Full game on the other hand was unplayable.
