I am so pumped for the full length Stackpole novel now. I need to relive the magic of those older books.

PvP funded. We did it ya'll.

Official confirmation:

So what happens now that the project has passed $2,500,000? Will we add additional funding goals and make the game even larger in scope?

No.

As we said in our first Live Stream Twitch Q&A session, after Stage 4 is unlocked, additional funding will go towards polishing the features and content we’ve already committed to. After that, any additional funds will go toward funding a Post-Launch Live Team that will continue developing additional features and content. First among them will be Cooperative Multiplayer, which will allow you and a friend to face-off against AI opponents.

So, in the time remaining, please help get the word out to new people who haven’t backed the project yet! They still have the chance to get the game for only $25 and the whole community will benefit from their early faith in the project.

I guess it's too late to wish Chris Roberts had this mentality.

Currently at 2,757,353 with Paypal. That's a nice polish/improvement budget

And Battletech pushed past Elite: Dangerous to the 9th most funded game Kickstarter spot

That's a lot of money that is going to the polishing of the product. Many people would kill for $250k dollars to simply develop a game.

I think that besides the huge sucess on kickstarter, this is also gonna be a HUGE hit for Harebrained when it comes out.

Eh, maybe.

The majority of buyers are probably already backers. Unless they get some significant press to capture the larger TBS crowd...

Part of me almost thinks they should use a little of that overflow for marketing purposes.

That would be the smart play. They should look at the hustle Sven Vinke of Larian does for their games. Dude puts in the work to get the word out there and it pays off.

>2.8 million with paypal. 41k backers(5k more than Shadowrun returns) Amazing.

Only thing I'm disappointed about is that we won't get that shaving stream.

I wonder how big PayPal got in the end

80k.

Edit: Didn't they say on the drunk stream that if they make it past 2.8 they'll put the money toward a liver fund(as a joke)?

I don't know if there's much reason to believe this. It seems like most of the major kickstarted games have sold on the order of 10x as many copies as they had backers. It's not clear to me why Battletech would be the exception.

Nature of the beast. Diehard fanbase, but not so diehard, and without that technical je nais se quois that propelled Star Citizen into infamy. Battletech fans are already into it, TBS fans are pretty well served these days. Needs something to make it stick out post launch.

Is the nature of the fanbase all that different from Pillars, Wasteland 2, or Shadowrun Returns? I don't really see it, and those sold 7.6x, 7.7x, and 24x respectively more copies (so far) than they had backers.

Those are all CRPGs satiating a large crowd that had been publicly thirsting for years. Different dynamic.

I'd love to be wrong, but I'm thinking this performs more like SRHK did.

No, strongly disagree with this. It will do better than SR:HK for sure. The Mechwarrior series and the Mechcommander games were pretty big and genre-defining in their own way. MW2 is one of Activision's best selling titles of all time and many people are familiar with it. This is way bigger than Shadowrun, and the success of the Kickstarter itself should confirm that this perform much better than SRHK.

I reckon there are quite many people waiting for this but not backing.
Heck, i was going to ignore the KS and just wait, and i am a hardcore BT fan.
I mean, there's no gameplay footage and the game's two years away, there's always a lot of people who don't want to pay in advance.
The Battletech boardgame has had a lot of fans, millions of players over the years. Most probably haven't stuck around but i reckon a finished game will rekindle interest of many (even if they won't stick around once again).

I don't have that much interest in the PVP, but I'm happy to see it get funded. The game looks more promising with every update, and I do like the Harebrained interviews. The statement that the designers think that the Battletech tabletop rules should be updated sounds especially cool to me.

Turn-based strategy games tend to be either 4X grand strategies or simulation-light games like the new Xcoms. The Battletech game is promising to be a tactical game that's also going to be full of gribbly detail. It wouldn't be surprising that this audience is a lot more underserved than the CRPG audience. In any case, this game has been sold purely on Harebrained's reputation, their staff members, and the few details that have been revealed so far. I imagine that there are going to be a lot of people still on the fence because they're not sure what the finished product entails. Heck, I'm not entirely sure what the game is, and I've been following it from the very beginning - Harebrained originally called it an RPG, but it's apparently going to be much more of a combat game. If it turns out to be good and compelling, people will buy it.
