BAYONETTA An Action Game by Hideki Kamiya |OT|

Alright, so it's been what... two years since this game released? The more I come back and play little bits of Bayonetta the better the game seems, and for one reason. No more how much time I devote to another game, even if it's another action game, I can come back to Bayonetta and within five minutes I'm playing as if I never took a break. The controls are more intuitive than almost any other game I've ever played.

I think it's that the ability to cancel out of pretty much any move into a different move.

Absolutely. This is timeless gameplay. Revisit Bayonetta 10 years from now and I bet you'll feel the same way about it.

Bayonetta should have its own tab on the website, not put in the Community section :(

Oh well, just making space for the Bayonetta 2 |OT|

Hey, it's cool down here brah. Community just means fewer posts overall (doesn't seem to stop Dark Souls OT4) and hopefully more insightful/helpful ones.

Speaking of helpful posts, I only had to read the words "Killgore glitch" and I immediately want to replay this again.

I need to buy this for 360. After seeing footage of the 360 version I can't go back.

I need to play my 360 version, I got it like 2 weeks after release but have only played it for about 3 hours over 2 years of having it. And I liked it a lot.

I think my save is on Chapter 5 or something, but I think if I go back to it I should probably just restart, but I dunno, then I may not finish it lol. Should I install it on hard drive, or just play it off the disc?

You can go back to any completed chapter, with your higher life level, acquired moves and weapons etc. So you don't have to restart from scratch, you can play one or two early levels to get back into the game, and then proceed from where you stopped. Unless you want to remember the "story", but there's not much to remember anyway. ;)

Should I install it on hard drive, or just play it off the disc?

Installing the game slightly reduces loading times, but adds tearing, from what I read here (I didn't notice it, but I'm not good at seeing such things).

Thanks great advice, I'll replay some old chapters to get the hang of it again. I also remember some tearing, I think I may have it installed, I'll play it off disc if so, the tearing did bother me.

I'm really struggling with the horrible story and cutscenes that interrupt the action. Will I be missing much if I skip the rest of them?

You'll get cheap shot from enemies since they usually attack right after their introduction, other than that you're not really missing much if you skip them, they really do distract the action because they are so long...

I originally played this game (PS3) on a CRT that could only do 480i, and when I did I found the performance criticisms to be vastly overblown as I only noticed significant frame drops during the prologue and select sections near the beginning of the game. After playing it in 1080p, I really see what people are talking about with this problem, because the framerate is seriously aggravating when you up the resolution.

I'm back to 480i now but I may very well just buy a 360 for this.

Replaying this for about the billionth time using different weapons than I've ever used before. Kilgores are fun.

I hope you cutscenes skippers are happy to know that you're skipping some of the most over the top action cutscenes ever. Sure some of them are too talky, but some of them are gold.

That...was...ridiculous. Some pacing issues (mostly due to the story) and 360 controller (inability to use shoulders and bumpers simultaneously) didn't really hamper my playthrough. Otherwise it was quite good.

Why would you need the bumpers and triggers at the same time? Not for lock-on I hope. Bayonetta has, maybe, the best auto-lock ever, you really don't need it 95% of the time.

I used lock-on maybe once in the first ten minutes then never again. I'm curious to know if people actually use this.

There were also a bunch of alternate combos if you used RB. The lockon was generally good, but sometimes it didn't work that great.

Playing through the game again for the first time since it came out; got a few questions.

I accidentally overwrote my normal save file with my hard playthrough, so now I don't have any statues listed under normal. How would I go about continuing this process for climax after I beat hard? Was it a mistake that I put new game instead of continue? (so I lost out on the handguns and uhh, ability to buy the mirror or whatever it is, from Rodin when I started the new game)

Speaking of climax; I've got the climax bracelet, if I use that all throughout hard mode, I can still unlock climax difficulty right?

You guys see the new Jeanne figure @ WonFes?

Yes you can unlock climax even if you use climax bracelet.

What you actually do to get all the statues to show in one file is to load that save, change the difficulty in the menu, and play whatever chapter. I'm not sure if your progress for trophies/achievements has been affected by overwriting your save, but if you want all the items/weapons you probably have to use one save file.

I have been playing this game little by little for months now because it literally tires me out with all the face melting action. I just completed Chapter 6 last night (the one with the dragons at the end)

I'm wondering what the heck I need to do get more rings and buy stuff, I have 40K saved up and I need 100K to buy things like auto-witch time and the Moon of Whatever. Do you have to do multiple playthroughs to buy stuff? (Rings carry over?) I'm sure there's some sort of method to grind but so far I've seen only forward moving areas.

I have been buying moves and some lolipops instead of the bigger stuff...maybe that's my problem??

You're going to have to play the game a bunch of times to buy everything. Or cheap out and do some halo farming.

Don't bother buying lolipops. You can just make your own. Moves are worth buying, though.

Yeah I heard on twitter it's possible to grind the next level Chapter 7...hopefully it has fun battles at least, the dragon one was kind of annoying (the other bosses blue and red flame guys were fun)

I hope halo farming does not involve those special battles like the one in Chapter 6 I couldn't pass (limited # of kicks and punches...tried like 10 times and gave up)

The accepted farming method is to beat the shit out of a boss you haven't come across yet, so don't worry about the Alfheims. They're mostly impossible without certain weapon equips anyway.

You really shouldn't worry about farming on your first playthrough anyway. I didn't farm until I beat Normal and Hard in preparation for Infinite Climax.

Just play the game. Everything carries over to all difficulties, and you'll have a much easier time farming after you're much more experienced with the combat system and the bosses.

Just a few advice on your situation,

getting halos :
- the higher your combos, the more halos you'll get. Use fast hitting weapons like lightning claws equipped on feet for example.
- I don't remember if you already have it, but the
panther
transform can keep your combo going even if you're running around.
- fighting a boss, especially equipped with the aggro boosting item and using your previous trick, enables long combos and thus many halos.

what to buy :
- 1. moves, because they're fun and allow for more combos
- 2. Hearts, if you need a bigger lifebar.
- 3. Moon of kalasomething, because it gives you a parry move that is cool and useful, especially on harder difficulties.
- 4. the aggro boosting item, if you want to get money faster and are confident against tougher enemies.

You won't buy everything on your first playthrough, though. The first playthrough is basically the game tutorial. ;)

Thanks, not sure if I will go for higher difficulties or not...I certainly would like to receive something besides Stone Award at end of level eventually :p

Describing a first playthrough of Bayonetta as a tutorial is apt. Once everything clicks and a few more moves are unlocked the game plays like butter.

Mmm... butter.

I would buy Moon and all of the moves first. Basically everything else can wait. You don't need to worry about farming, because it's basically impossible to have everything available to you unlocked at any given point.

I didn't use Moon a lot at first because it's sort of tough to use, but I've got to say, it makes some of the fights infinitely easier. Also, on normal and hard, it's just free meter/witch time.

As for receiving a stone award on every level, this will change. Once you get used to hard, normal will seem like a joke.

Don't worry. I was sick of hearing "WO WHAT A DAY" and "The shadow remains cast!"

Then I platinum'd every chapter and eventually platinum'd the game. You'll be fine :)

Don't worry about Ranks, they're a bit unfair anyway for first timers, since your score is also based on the challenges you do, items used and deaths, if you die a few times like falling off doing platforming and missed a hidden verse, you'll get a really low rank, and score is based on keeping a combo alive etc, it could contradict your playstyle.

Scoring system encourages you to play differently and not die so you'll do better and better as you play and knowing where all the verses are.

I wish kamiya had just stuck an infinite combat mode generator in there with user-variable settings. Angel Slayer is all good and well but taunting enemies for health gets old fast.

I remember you get health items drop from torture attacks too in Angel Slayer (could be wrong), as oppose to nothing in the main story mode, so there's that, even though it's not much...

So I decided to pick this up again and finished my hard mode playthrough.

I was getting frustrated because I got to the Route 666 part where you fight 3 Claw Guys(can't remember name) with the cars constantly coming at you and I just could not win, even with dodging I still wouldn't have time to do a full PKP combo or anything longer than that.

Then I decided I should probably learn how to use Dodge Offset. Over the course of about 20 minutes I adjusted to using Dodge Offset and went from being destroyed every time to completely obliterating those 3 without getting hit.

Dodge Offset changes everything. So much more mobility and options. Wish I had learned how to do it sooner.

To anyone who is still playing this game and having some trouble, learn how to Dodge Offset, it may feel awkward still for an hour or two but after that it eventually becomes second nature and you'll be pulling off awesome combo's and dodging attacks with style.

I'm in pretty much the same boat. I picked up the game again today after about a year, having only finished everything on Normal in the past, and Hard mode has been kicking my ass. I've been scraping by up until Chapter IV so far (Evil Harvest Rosary spam helps a ton), but I know I'm going to need to step it up if I want to survive through the rest of it.

I played with Dodge Offset for a while earlier and just couldn't get comfortable with it, but it sounds like it will really pay off if I keep trying. It seems like such a simple concept, but holding the button down just throws everything off so bad for me. More practice tomorrow!

As a side note, I really wish the only available strategy guide for this game didn't cost $300 now. :(

Dodge Offset takes some getting used to because pretty much no game has it except Bayonetta, so it requires some "re-programming" in order to do it efficiently.

This is my favourite game this gen and the reason why I sold my PS3 and went 360.
It's also the reason why I hope BC is in the nextbox.
Hard to believe people think God of War 3 is better than this.

I've played God of War 3 about 3/4 of the way through and it feels very watered down compared to Bayonetta. On a pure mechanics level I think Bayonetta takes the cake.

Fighting 3 Claw enemies on hard mode while dodge offsetting all over the place is pure art in motion. Same with the last Jeanne fight, it was pretty amazing.

Not intending this to be an insult or anything, but I think some people might just enjoy the slower combat in God of War 3.

Different rewards for each yo. The difficult gets amped so high anyway that it would be the cruelest goddamn thing if hard level alfheims didn't get you an additional reward.

In terms of gameplay Bayonetta is pretty much unequaled by anything in all of action gaming.. GOW3 has a compelling story which I really can't say for Bayonetta personally, and better graphics.

But yeah.
