Cal will remain ahead of Texas by 4 thousandths of a point. Yeah, its that close. Texas *would* be ahead of Cal right now except 12 coaches decided during a bye week for both teams that Cal was better than Utah. I guess Cal outpracticed the hell out of Utah. Or it could be West coast coaches who realized that Utah's BCS bid is safe and decided to go ahead and start moving votes over to Cal to help protect their BCS bid. Its their perogative to do so, but I would like to point out human influence of that sort is the exact reason the computers and the BCS were set up to begin with. We have now come full circle to the original problem that the BCS was created to fix. Awesome.
In any case, its close enough that there is no way to tell what happens next week. If USC stumbles against UCLA, if Cal loses or wins ugly or if Auburn loses Cal is very likely out. If OU loses Texas is out for sure. There is also the possibility that there will be a massive backlash to this weeks coaches poll that could determine this.
Right now it is so close that if Tedford or Mack Brown decided to put their team in first place and drop the other team off of their ballot their team would be in the BCS. Thankfully both coaches have more moral scruples than that, but how fucked up is a system where a coach could basically hand his team a BCS bowl game... I dont think either of these coaches would do something like that, but there are certainly coaches that would.
