whole thing took about 45 minutes. Nice hot towel action, straight razor to clean up the back of my neck, he talked me through how to keep my beard trim on my own and the best products to clean my hair and beard with. JP Kempt in San Francisco.

I haven't never really got a hang of that tipping culture, but I am sure he was happy (15 dollars sounds quite much). :p

You should also be happy, awesome customer service is a great thing to have and I really like the results! Instead of a boho lumberjack (tecnically nothing wrong with that either) you now look sharp and professional. Your new hairstyle is also totally badass. <3

And do you live in San Fransisco!? If you do, I am ridiculously jealous right now. I totally loved that city. Everybody was so adorable and sweet. ^_^
 
Haha thanks. The beard was getting out of control and a friend recommended that barber shop to get it trimmed up. I do live in San Francisco, I'd say definitely everyone is pretty adorable and cute all the time out here. A few stinkers, but what are ya gunna do?
 
I went and got a haircut the other night and asked him to neaten the beard while he was at it. Told the guy I wanted the sides straightened and cleaned up but most of the weight at the bottom to remain and he just goes *brrrttt* straight through with what feels like a number 3 or 2 clipper. By the time I realised what was happening it was too late. There is some weight on the bottom though I will now need to spend another month or so growing back some of the beard. :/

This was part of the soundtrack for our roadtrip from Adelaide to Sydney a few years ago. Do they still do free entry if you have a beard? Probably not since everyone has one nowadays but I remember they did that about five years ago or so.

I need to say that the barber did brilliant job with both your hair and facial hair. :p

I have been once in US and hit five states and according to my experience people were generally really nice in every place. I was there three weeks and didn't meet a single douchebag or even a slightly unpleasant person the whole time. SF was still my favourite. <3 I definitely need to come there again at some point. I can imagine it is expensive place to live, but I still consider you extremely lucky. :)

Oh no! Annoying when there is some misunderstanding and they end up cutting more than you were hoping.

Sadly, no... I don't think. Only been to one of their gigs, but I bought tickets to see them. Shitloads of people had beards there, too.
 
He was good looking without one, but God damn with a beard he's next level.

He inspired me to grow mine. This is what I'm aiming for.

My brother was saying that I should buy products to help maintain and protect my beard...what.

I condition my hair/beard every day and shampoo once a week. Any else I should be doing? haha

That beard is professionally styled and genetically gifted. I have never made it past two months before going back to half an inch all around. It's just gets unwieldy and i'm not sure I have the beard density to grow it out and make it look that good.

Beard oil is a good one, but I actually find I get better results with Moroccan Oil. It smells really nice, too. But it's a little greasy :/

Just get some balm on there, it'll make it look thicker.

Can anyone recommend a natural soap that they use to wash their face/beard? I've seen a lot of people recommend natural soaps, but there's loads out there and I don't know if one is much the same as the other.

Easily available in the UK if possible.

At the moment I use Wrights Coal Tar Soap (because it reminds me of the clean smell of my grandparents <3) and it seems to be fine but wanted to see if natural soap would actually be better. When I first started out I was using a liquid soap, but that just seemed to dry the skin in particular so I've stopped using that altogether.
 
Bah I have a gap right in the middle of my stash where almost no hair grows. I can grow a full beard everywhere else, I'm so jelly&#128553;

My moustache is several shades lighter than my beard, which is infuriating. Still in the growing out phase though, and even harbouring a little hope that I might be able to work with it eventually.
 
I was doing a stupid pose before (or after?) riding a Segway at the F1 in Melbourne yesterday. Hasn't been professionally trimmed in a while, I've just nipped the stragglers here and there every so often:

Wear the beard short. Shave the neck and trim the rest. Everybod loves a 15 day stubble :)

I've been using Grandapa's Pine Tar Soap that some friends got me for my birthday last year. Seems to be available from a lot of online retailers. The trick for beards is beard oil afterwards. Pine tar soap is great at removing things from the beard, and the natural oils have to get replaced somehow. Has worked great for me the past few months.
 
I was about to pull the trigger on this, but I'll give that a try instead thanks.

Seems like they can also be used in place of shampoo, which is something I'm keen to try.
 
This is the first time I've grown my beard out, so what do you guys recommend? Should I just keep it going, and let it fill in, or keep it in check? Its getting crazy in some spots I think maybe it shouldn't be. Maybe I should just not give a fuck, hahah. Sorry for filling the page with my ugly mug, heh.

I think it's coming along alright. If you can get away with it, I think the longer you leave it before doing anything drastic the better you'll be able to decide what you CAN do with it.

That's my logic anyway, and I'm sticking to it. At least until work moan at me.

Not to mention that guys got the hairline of a 12 year old, clearly all genetic. But I swear I see this same look all over the place now, its super trendy
 
Hey BeardGAF, here is my 100 day post-military beard! Haven't trimmed it, just been using beard oil daily and washing and conditioning once or twice a week.

PSA for anyone considering using Murdock beard oil... don't. I've had some for a couple of weeks and I've been occasionally mixing it in with their moisturising cream (which smells amazing) but this morning I decided to just put the beard oil on it's own after washing and it smells awful. I've had a good shower to try and get shot of it, but it's still there. Hoping it will be gone in the morning when I go through my daily ritual,

I'm also not a fan of the oily feel, so I'm hoping I can get by just using the cream.

I love their moustache wax too, although I'm not great at applying it. It's just that oil. :-x
