Yea, it itches more in the beginning. Also itches more in the neck area, so "draw" a decent neckline and shave it there, it was always a relief for me.

What are you doing to keep it clean at the moment? I had dandruff problems when I was younger, so I started to use anti-dandruff shampoo and it stopped it. No reason you can't do that with your beard.

Personally I just use a natural soap in the morning, when showering and before going to bed. Whenever I feel it's necessary, basically.

What do you do with dandruff in the beard, I get it rather bad which puts me off growing it.

You can simply use anti-dandruff shampoo to wash your beard.
Jojoba oil, which is an ingredient of a lot of beard oils, should also help with flaking.

Theoretically a beard oil or balm should help with this - both of them soften facial hairs, and beard balm additionally help to keep them together. I say theoretically, because even though I use a beard oil (I tried few now) I still have a stiff hair here and there that doesn't submit to combing and just sticks horizontally or even upwards.

Beard oils/balms really help me with random flyaway hairs. Also softens the beard overall.

I've accepted that my beard will never be 100% under control. I keep it trimmed, clean and use beard oil at least once daily but it's never completely uniform.

Yuuuup. I used to wash my beard too often and didn't do anything else. It looked fine but was really coarse.

I typically use beard balm during the day and occasionally some oil at night and it's surprisingly soft now.

Balms do provide some hold and management, but also look into a great local barber that is great with beard trims. They may be able to help with a minor trim where other methods don't work.

I use Beard Commander, when I use balm over oil. My local barber stocks it (I don't think it's widely available in the UK otherwise).

Question about balm, I've been using Honest Amish balm for awhile but while watching the beard baron videos I noticed the balm used in his videos has a significantly different consistency.

The beard baron stuff is closer to a wax whereas mine is like a bunch of small jellish pebbles that easily melts.

I hope that makes sense, what's better? Should I switch?

I like the Amish beard oil/balm brand. As my personal rule of thumb, I use oil as a moisturizer and balm for styling.

Basically yeah. I actually make my food choices based at least partially on my beard unless I know I'm going to be in a position to wash/shower it before someone else sees me.

I eat soup every day at lunch, usually something bad for my beard too, and my lunch mates can deal. I wipe my face a lot. Drinking beer, again, it's their problem not your's!

Best thing I can suggest is to give one a try and see if you get any benefit from it. I need it to keep mine moist and soft (and it helps the skin underneath too), but then all I use to clean is a natural soap so there's no real moisturising (the opposite in fact) or conditioning going on with the cleaning process.
