You're ridiculous. Just because I said it was mediocre in execution doesn't mean I didn't enjoy the movie or think it deserves exactly what that one guy said in his review. It's just not in the top 1% to me like some would infer from the acclaim it got. I don't take RT as gospel. With scary movies and comedies, especially, its nigh impossible to gauge quality. Too many people vary in their taste in horror and comedy. And apparently my opinion offended you enough to warrant your hyperbole.

Your opinion is yours but virtually no one shares it. Get Out is hardly polarizing.

Just because the concept is an enjoyably "woke" take on racism, do you think it requires unanimous acclaim as a top 1% movie? Please. You're the one sweeping with your statements. Get over my opinion that RT doesn't dictate movie quality and that I am going to see B&B for myself.

I enjoyed the movie a lot more than I thought I would. Some parts felt like a drag and there was some unneeded padding.
The mom subplot added almost nothing.
Some scenes were underwhelming too such as the Gaston song (the scene itself more than the song) and the ballroom scene. I just wasn't feeling the cinematography in those scenes. It was weak. The battle between Gaston and Beast was kinda weak too. Gaston just wasn't as smug as he was in the animated movie. I loved how he laughed as he kicked the Beast around in the original. That's gone here.

Be Our Guest was lit as fuck though and Ewan McGregor was really fun as Lumiere. The
witch being a more prominent character
was cool too.

Perhaps I went into this with the low expectations but I am surprised how much I enjoyed it.

Its not perfect and it was kind of unnecessary to remake it.

It's safe to say that Doug Walker didn't like it.

As for me I have a feeling I'm not going to like it. I'm not a huge fan of the Disney live action remakes (though I did like the Jungle Book) and I really like the original Beauty and the Beast. Plus the previews I saw of Emma Watson were not entirely impressive.

I'll probably give it a watch eventually but I don't think I want to put money down on it. I think I'd rather put that towards live action Ghost in the Shell.

Went to see the movie last night. I remember reading people being highly upset with the movie because it featured a scene with
an "extremely gay kiss" from Le Fou.
Did I blink and miss this scene or was it cut?

I'm gonna be so pissed when Disney Releases the Non-IMAX transfer of this movie.

Spend all that money and hype about how the Movie is using the whole screen, yet don't do it that way on the Blu-Ray.

Which is a shame, because it looks AMAZING on it. (At least from what I have heard, I'm seeing it tomorrow)

Just finished up, really loved it. I think the editing could have been a bit better (it needed some space to breathe in some places, felt more breakneck than the shorter animated film) and as a nitpick, it didn't have my favourite shot from the animated movie, but I really loved it.

Dan Stevens was really good. Everyone was really. I just really thought Dan Stevens brought a lot to the Beast. He was very funny lol. I also really liked Evermore, though it can't really beat If I Can't Love Her, but that's okay.

Movie was highly enjoyable and beautifully shot. I enjoyed pretty much all the music including the new stuff for the most part. Definitely has its fair share of faults but overall well worth seeing. It has its own personality and a confidence to it that I didn't expect from the trailers.

Not sure why people (who haven't seen it) continue to claim it's mediocre based on the early initial ranking on rotten tomato. It's now over 70%.

I actually think the new music is the main reason to see it. I thought the new numbers were solid to good, while the old ones were fine but didn't quite live up to the originals.

Did anyone have sound problems the music was to loud. I sounded to pitchy. And I thought the movie was pretty good and the songs where good too.

I want to see this, I want this to be good, but I have to say..I'm glad disney is done with the boring "safe" adaptions now. It's a by the numbers fairy tale love story. Nostalgia and a verrry beautifully directed set and score are what made the original a classic. Mulan, or Aladdin could be a hit on it's own in 2017 and i fully expect them to be superior to this. Also, the music taken from the stage shows are jarring to people but I'm pretty sure disney was clear that they were adding 10000 new musical numbers.


Also belle's dress sucks.

I really liked it. Emma watson didnt screw it up.

4/5 stars. Much better tha La La Land. I think this movie will put charts on fire.

Same here. The 1991 animated movie is one of my all-time favorites, but I still enjoyed this adaptation. So much that I actually wanna go see it again. And while a lot seem to not enjoy the new songs, I actually liked them. I really love the Beast's "Evermore" song. So powerful!

I thought the formation of Belle and Beast's relationship and their falling in love felt a little more fleshed out and a little more genuine in this movie than in the animated movie, and
Beast's solo song near the end
solidified his character in this version as my preferred version, although I prefer the visual design and animation of the original Beast. I missed him walking around on all fours and being more animal like in his habits. It felt like he hadn't become as accustomed to the form in this movie as he had in the original.

I'm not sure what I thought. Enjoyed it a lot, not nearly as much as Cinderella or Maleficent. Emma Watson as Belle wasn't a patch on Lily James as Cinderella either. Couple of the songs fell flat.

I honestly don't think Emma Watson was a good fit, especially her singing. Emmy Rossum would have been a much better Belle, and she can actually sing.

Ewan McGregor was fantastic though. So was Josh Gad.

Ewan had to record all his lines as he sounded more Mexican than French according to the director. He took voice lessons to fix it.

The new scenes really didn't add much, but
the staff completely transforming before the curse gets lifted and that shot with all the lifeless furniture in front of the castle
was great.

Just saw it. Liked it a lot. The new songs were kinda hit and miss but I absolutely loved the Beast song he did solo. Good movie!

Saw it in imax tonight and loved it.

I knew before seeing it that Gaston and LeFou would be amazing and they didn't disappoint, I'd be up there in the tavern singing his praises if I was there! LeFou seems to go on more of journey in this and Gad played him brilliantly.

Had reservations about Emma Watson. In trailers I saw Emma Watson cosplaying as Belle but that disappeared and she was really good.

I loved Evermore but didn't care too much for the other new songs.

One thing I didn't like was Mrs Potts and chip, the designs were just ugly and the voices a little Dick Van Dyke, Emma Thompsons normal voice would have been better for me.

Massive smile from end to end though.

I think the soundtrack outside the songs was disappointing. What played during rooftop fight was so much better in the original for example. It was so memorable to me. It felt generic here.

I didn't like it. New songs were awful outside of 'Beasts' tower song, which was barely possible. There was definitely some meddling with Emma Watson voice which was flat as all hell. I did enjoy the portrayal of the Castle objects though, they were fun.
Emma's acting was easily the weakest I've seen so far from her as well.

Then, at the end, I realized why some of the movies shots and set pieces just felt "off". Bill fucking Condon. As soon as I saw his name pop up at the end of the movie everything that bothered me made sense. He couldn't direct two pieces of bread to make a sandwich.
I really wanted to enjoy it, but damn that movie was a slog.

I can agree with the criticism of Bill Condon. Haha. I loved the film, new songs, actors, everything, but the directing was pretty uninspired and most of his movies I've seen are all poorly directed. I loved the movie in spite of it, but there are a lot of places where more dynamic and inspired directing would have lifted it up even more. Especially considering how well "shot" the animated film is (the dive and sweep in the ballroom ❤️).

Just saw it again. Twice in two days lol. My mom and sister both loved it too.

So I got out of the showing not too long ago and my impressions are...disappointing. Overall, the cast is very impressive, but what was not was Emma's singing and acting. It's an over the top visual spectacle, the castle was actually very well done. Some of the CGI worked, and some didn't in my opinion. There were a ton of shots that were muddled with depth of field and motion blur with the CGI castle as a backdrop and that was distracting.

The subplot involving
Belle's mother
was horribly unnecessary padding, holy shit.

I dunno I don't really review movies so lemme break down what worked:

Costume design, sound design and mixing, set design, supporting character performances.

If you want a good live action Beauty and the Beast film that feels original watch the 1946 french version. This movie is just another Disney cash in.

Just got home from seeing this with the wife. I've never heard a crowd applaud with such gusto at the end of a movie. This is going to make SERIOUS money.

The Be our Guest sequence essentially solidified my trust and eliminated any fears I had for the upcoming live action Lion King.

I knew they could do animals no problem due to Jungle Book, but it was the insane animated trip of those dance sequences that I wondered how they'd translate into "the real world"... Be our Guest was incredible.


Imagine Hakuna Matata, Circle of Life, and Can't wait to be king... oh man.


Emma was "ok" for me.. and really only started being decent once she started falling for the beast. Everything before that she seemed bored and going through the motions.

I was in complete shock, when I walked out at how much I enjoyed the film.

It was beautifully shot. (Except for a miss on the ballroom sequence, that is the climax of the whole movie and it's was kinda meh).

It's the first movie I have seen that uses the whole IMAX screen, it was glorious. More movies need to be shot in that full aspect ratio (and if Disney doesn't release that version on blu-ray I'm gonna be pisses).

Emma Watson was fine, it took longer than I expected for me to get used to her but it finallly all worked out.

I mean it's well documented but Luke Evans is awesome in the role, and does it so well.

Gaston and Be Our Guest (with an insane French history joke that I lost it over) are the best numbers, the new songs are meh.

I'd give it a 4/5.

Be our guest was fucking lit. Garson in the animated movie is perfection so it's hard to top. I liked the movie overall when I saw it. Emma Watson isn't good at showing her emotions in intense scenes which makes some parts fall flat. Le Fou, luminaire, cogswotth and the beast carried that film hard.

I really enjoyed the movie but the way they did some of their scene transitions felt a little jarring, particularly the cut-to-black-then-to-next-scene ones.

Edit: Also really enjoyed the extra background info we learned about all the characters. Really made them feel more like their own people instead of just copies of the original work.

I don't get how people are saying it lacks soul. I found it to be hilarious and touching. I especially thought some of the new lines were funny (LeFou and the Beast's lines mostly). The visuals and the majority of the script were very faithful to the original. In fact I watched a bit of the original recently after not seeing it since the 90's and I didn't think the animation aged well at all. Boo me if you want.

I will say that I didn't like the trailer so please give it a chance if the trailer put you off.

I loved it! I'm surprised how much I enjoyed it. It's a very beautiful movie visually, and you can tell they put a look of effort making this film looking great.

The songs are still great, and Be Our Guest is marvelous. New songs didn't really add much, but they weren't bad and didn't hurt the film. Same thing with the new backstories. Actually, I kind of dig that they fleshed out some background stuff.

Gaston & Le Fou were the best characters especially Gaston. Dude nailed it! Emma wasn't bad, but she could use more work expressing emotion.

Lots of funny moments; the
snowball to Belle's face
got a huge laugh. Also lots of sniffles and tears in theater when
the last pedal fell, and the characters froze.

Lastly big overreaction for the gay character. You wouldn't be able to tell he's gay if the news didn't break out.

I actually like that they emphasize that Belle was seen as an outsider in their town. It's something the cartoon never really emphasized outside of the opening music.

Saw it today. Like it enough but it fell flat in some cases. Gaston was not nearly as much of an asshole in this version, which I guess grounds his character but removes much of his charm as well.
