Sorry for the really really dumb question, but am I able to watch this for free on Crunchyroll but just a day behind? Or do I need to get premium? Thanks :)

If it was a day late, they wouldn't be able to sell subs.

You get to watch with ads a week later.

get some go again
Most people here are going to watch every single episode of this anyway because it's Berserk.

And then go back to read the manga to cleanse their mind of it.
i don't think i will be going back to the anime unless i hear of them making the animation a little better. i can live with the crappy visuals but the animations i can't watch. i'll probably just reread the manga.

Yet in the process, this poor girl becomes possessed and decapitates her father. Guts slices her into tiny pieces in a scene that will scar me forever.

give me a break that scene had no impact whatsoever.

It doesn't even match the budget of a Nickelodeon CG cartoon.

Like I thought the point of CG is you could do more for less, yet they couldn't be bothered to animate the old man's mouth.

Just shoddy shit all around.

It's too bad they're not doing the next arc with that uh...
one old due who gets beheaded
and the lost children arc since those really show the more human side of Guts more.

The fairy going from fairly bishounen to weird blob just seemed really out of place. I guess they're trying to emulate sinbad? Or was this in the manga? I haven't read it, but perhaps I should start to.

The CG seemed on par with Kingdom. Gonna be interesting to see where they go with this.

Its something that the fairy does in the manga fairly frequently

However this CGI was horrendous
I got no words for it

If I was a creator who got rich off of my property, I would never allow an adaptation of my work as shoddy as this. Stiff animations, poor texture work, music that doesn't fit the visuals, and extreme rushing/changing of the plot.

All the hiatus that Miura has taken shows that he don't care for this series as much as he used to.
Which is a damn shame

Phew boy this was a bad first episode.

Also does summoning the godhand reduce melanin for everyone in the area

Jealous of the Glory that is Johnny Depp
source material is incredible, but this has to be one of the worst looking anime I've ever seen. I even take the still frames of the 90s anime over this, at least that series had an amazing soundtrack.

I enjoyed Ajin and Knights of Sidonia but somehow this CGI looks worse, the animations are janky as fuck, I don't know how else to describe it :(

Also action is confusing, I guess on purpose to hide the uglyness.

scar me forever

Yeah right, pretty sure these guys do it on purpose, get clicks by becoming a parody of themselves.

No, he doesn't care... Let me just look at the latest chap--what the hell are you talking about?

If art of this level is "not caring", I'd love to see what he can do when he cares.

Polygon Pictures has a certain level of technical competence even if their aesthetic decisions are often poor. GEMBA, the CG studio handling Berserk, is pretty inexperienced and doesn't seem to have a basic level of competence.

That's assuming he is a well rounded person making a reasoned decision not to do it.

As evidenced by his work proper I submit the notion that he may have a few underlying personality issues that may be conflicting with his work flow. See: completely random wrestling/ loli comic he did a whole volume of instead of Berserk for reasons.

They should read the manga, they'd probably slit their wrists by the Lost Children Arc.

Drunk domestic abuse dad never letting go of his glory days is pretty rough to sit through. He's the kind of pathetic coward that... ugh I gotta stop thinking about it.

Useless shock value arc of no substance though.

The sound design/direction in this is really bad. Maybe even worse than the animation.

I had tempered my expectations since I knew it was going to be 3d but I expected better than this.

Maybe I should just rewatch the original series and re-read the manga :/

Now what's the next step in your master plan?

Actually from what it sounds like and from his art it seems like the last break was so he could start making the switch over to a digital medium. This actually might be a good thing for Berserk as it might allow him to work faster and more efficiently than he used to.

You can do all of the above.

I did recently and didn't regret it. Rewatching the 1997 anime with a critical eye did two things for me though. A: it helped me realize how cheaply it was made and B: it made me realize how brilliant the directing, writing, and soundtrack was. The talent was there. It just didn't have the budget.

This show though... it's too early to tell. Not looking good though.

Its actually a pretty important arc to Guts as a character. He goes from darkness my old friend super edge lord with tunnel vision to a human being, well a shell of one. Roshine was also a great tragic villain and when Guts departs from Jill and she reaffirms her life, that's the most Berserk thing ever. It is however probably the most fucked up stuff outside the Eclipse and maybe trolltown.

I hope it's just that. Years of witnessing his work flow issues has me convinced it's some sort of pervasive personality issue or mental fatigue that will only get worse as time goes by.

I was making a joke about a few choice posts that dismissed the arc completely.

Oh damn, its hard to tell sometimes hah. Well he apparently had some input of some sort on the game coming out in a few months. I'm guessing there was time spent adapting to the new format, tools, software, etc. Here's hoping it allows him to increase his output or at least keep things rolling at a steadier clip but we shall see. Though I do suspect he has some issues aside from nearly working himself to exhaustion.

Did a super scientific analysis of Berserk's intro.

Caska is now lighter skinned than Gutts.

Caska samples on the left. Gutts on the right. I took samples when they were in the same scene under similar lighting conditions or literally on screen at the same time.

Re-reading the start of the Lost Children arc, the tree monster actually appears as do the same exact bandits. Of course in the manga it acts as a segue way into Jill's story whereas here it goes straight to Conviction.

Yeah, I noticed the same thing sadly. It's even more apparent in the short glimpses of them naked in the rain in the OP. Pretty off-putting considering how clear the manga's been on this front:

Duuuuuuuuuuude, this thing is so bad that I thought not even the voice actors were really that good, specially Puck and Schierke, their voices don't fit at all with what I imagined they sounded like (Puck like a boy, not a girl and Schierke like a little girl, not a 16/17 year old).

Is anyone else really annoyed at this being 24 FPS? Usually I wouldn't even think about it but because everything looks like PS2 cinematics, it being 24 FPS bothers the fuck out of me.
