I was always annoyed how the son was like five years old in IV and then in V he is like 14 or something. How long was Balboa in Russia??

Regarding Rambo, I wish we could have got a Trautman side-story movie. A shame it can't happen.

Actually the second movie made at least some attempt to keep him the same human from the first movie and didn't go explosion crazy until the end. Rambo 3 was the one where he just became the cliche killing machine that chucked out one-liners and smarmy retorts to everything said to him.

the most recent Rambo was bad-fucking-ass.

I can't wait for the new one. Hopefully it's still Rambo Meets Taken, where he's punching human sex traffickers in half.

It should just be called John Rambo to complete the Stallone cycle. :}

In fact, he didn't even INTEND to kill the man - he threw a rock at the helicopter to prevent it from harassing him, and it pitched, and dumped the sniper out!

The final Rambo movie, while keeping a truly extraordinary amount of gore, managed to bookend the series awfully well. Perfect ending. First Blood is the best, though.

Yeah exactly, the one death in First Blood was accidental.

I kinda agree with you on Rambo 4, there were a lot of complaints from people that Rambo didn't have any one liners, but I think Stallone was just trying to find a balance between the first film and the later ones. I'm sure e went in knowing that audiences wanted to see Rambo as a non stop killing machine, and that he was. But I think he also wanted to take away the cheesiness of 2 and 3 and go back to the roots of the first film. I did like the ending with him arriving at his parents ranch. That was a nice way to bookend it, as you have said.

You know, I haven't actually seen the sequel since I was like 12 or something (dear god, that was almost 20 years ago). So my memory is really hazy of the film. But your post makes me want to watch part II again.

Nah man, he is going to be taken on the mexican cartel single handily

Rambo. Angry, angry man

Why anyone would put Rocky IV above Rocky III is beyond me. Granted Rocky IV has the best training montage in the series and you won't find a more stirring rendition of the Russian national anthem anywhere else. But Rocky III had everything.
A fantastic villan in Clubber Lang. ("I don't hate Balboa, but I pity the foo, and I will destroy any man that tries to take what I got") A broken Rocky that needed to find his way again, with the help of Apollo Creed. ("There is no tommorw, there is no tommorw, there is no tommorw!") Uncle Paulie being his old racist lovable self. ("You can't train him like a coloured fighter, he ain't got no rhythm") And the greatest song in the series. ("When we fought man, you had the edge, the eye of tiger, and the only way to get it back is to go back to the beginning")
Oh and Thunderlips of course. ("In the flesh baby!")

Rocky is a street fighter, so even if Tommy Gunn was as a better boxer than Rocky, Rocky's life circumstances made him very tough to put down.

He was never going to be legally/medically cleared for a real match.

That's kind of the point. The plot itself was set up to suck, within the first 10 minutes of the movie you get some point where Rocky lost his fortune because of an accountant, and then can't fight anymore. The whole movie was scripted to suck, it doesn't have to be whether or not the framework allowed for anything good.

Rambo 2008 was perfection. I sat in the theater with my mouth agape the whole time.

Really shocking violence.

So good.

yeah, big hulking violent Rambo was visually amazing. He was like Jason Voorhees without the hockey mask... and good.

Like MrCunningham pointed out, the ending was fantastic. Pretty bitter-sweet.

Proof of Clubber Lang's superiority over Ivan Drago

"I reject that challenge, because Balboa is no challenge. But I would be more than happy to beat up on him some more."

The first movie is still the best, and proof that Stallone is a very good writer and talented actor, but the third movie is just so much damn fun.

Best word I'd use to describe Rocky III. And since I can't get enough of quoating Clubber Lang, "Ain't going to be any quick knockdowns, this time I'm gonna to train even harder. I'm gonna torture him, I'm gonna crucify him, real bad."

I also love the final scene at the end between Apollo and Rocky. No one else around. No refs. No bells. Just the two seeing who truly is the better fighter, and bonding over it. I loved how they showed the mutual respect between Creed and Balboa in III.

Of course, Creed was respecting Balboa pretty quick after he started to get beat up in Rocky I.

Shit, this thread makes me want to watch the first four movies NOW!

All the Rocky movies have their little moments that I love. My personal favorites are II, IV and Rocky Balboa.

II is everything I is only Rocky wins.

IV is so goddamned 80s in a good way.

Rocky Balboa is just shockingly good.

1>2>4>3>6>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>5

1 & 6 are great movies, 4 is a perfect guilty pleasure, 3 is also a gilty pleasure but the pacing is weird sometimes, 5 is shitty and 2 is actually pretty boring.

I love watching the original Rocky and laughing when they say the fight is in front of a sold out Spectrum and in some scenes, you can clearly see that the arena is completely empty, except for some of the first 5-10 rows around the ring. hehehehe

I can agree with this sentiment

They tried to kill him in all 4 previous movies. He was guaranteed to be damaged in 5. Match wouldn't have happened.

Like I said before, I like Rocky V it for its ideas but agree the execution was way off. I felt the ideas in Rocky III were even weaker. That's just me though.

You do realise there was a Rocky VI right?

I adore Rocky films but man, 5 was beyond awful.
Yes. 16 years gave him time to recover from the Drago fight trauma, and/or determine that his original injuries weren't that severe. Also, the fight between him and Mason Dixon was meant to be an exhibition like the Rocky Marciano/Muhammad Ali fight. They weren't going to seriously hurt each other.

Sure, in the end, the story allowed him to put everything into that exhibition.

I loved Rocky VI but I thought it could've been better. He doesn't even train that much, and when the montage happens, they might as well have shown him eating a can of spinach.

Put 3 in front of 4, and I agree.

Rocky 1 was the best easily, it won Best Picture for a reason.

I love them all though.

5 gets alot of hate [kinda unjust, I enjoyed it], 4 alot of love. 2 is the first film again expect Rocky wins. 6 is good because it takes a different approach than the other movies, it shows what boxing/anything-really can mean to somebody who is past their prime.. not to win, but for respect.

I hate 3. Mr.T is stupid. And the robot made me go why??, followed by lolwut.

Best part of Rocky V was the final 10 minutes.

Paulie: [to Rocky] You should've left him on streets where you found him.
Rocky Balboa: [to Tommy] Hey! You knock him down how 'bout tryin' knockin' *me* down.
George W. Duke: No, no. In the ring. In the ring. Tommy only fights in the ring.
Rocky Balboa: My ring's outside.

Robot is in 4 not 3.

I dunno.. Rocky 2 has the scene where Rocky and Apollo are running on the beach in short shorts, and then hug each other.

Whereas, Rocky 3 has the scene where Rocky remembers that incident, and they show the scene again only with a slight blurry dream effect.

It's a toss up.

Rocky 1 is the best, and although the rest of them (barring 5) were all great, I'd say that Sly put the same amount of heart and soul into Rocky Balboa as he did the first one. I love that he went back and finished the series right. The fact that he just wanted to go the distance and does as in the first movie makes it all come around full circle.

Rocky Balboa is just as inspirational as the original:

Agreed, Stallone has a real knack for his monologues. Amazing stuff.

Rocky 3 is better.

Rocky gets cocky, fights chumps, gets soft. A new contender comes along. Dude is an animal, murders dudes in the ring. Mickey tells him he will never beat him.

Rocky gets his ass whooped in first fight, Mickey dies. Rocky is down and out, gets resurrected by his old nemesis Apollo Creed. He trains with Creed, goes back to the basics, gets a big pep talk from Adrian.

Rocky DESTROYS Clubber Lang in 3 rounds. Movie is capped off with sparring match with Apollo Creed.

Rocky 3 is the most entertaining. Rocky 1 is a classic. God I love these movies.

The only thing that really annoys me about 4 is that he had to put his real world wife into it. Same goes for Rocky 5 when he put his real kid in it!

I hate when actors put their SO's into their movies, when there are clearly better actors for the roles.

Rocky deserves to get his ass kicked in 3. In no other situation is Rocky actually humiliated and his warrior spirit called into question. While Rocky I is a love story and Rocky II is Rocky assuming his mantle, only in Rocky III is he really brought low and able to regain respect. Rocky IV is more of a revenge story.

Im fan of the character and the movies. Is one of my favourite series, if not my favourite. Mad respects for Stallone. I love knowing people that say they havent seen a Rocky movie because they dont like boxing and think that the movie is going to be stupid macho fight after stupid macho fight, then i say to watch Rocky I with them, and when they accept they totally love it and ask themselves why didnt they watch it before.

My favourite ones are Rocky I and Rocky Balboa. II, III and IV are just fucking fun and awesome. The last one I saw was V, and all the people that talked about it say it was a fucking piece of shit, then I watched. Its not really good, but I dont think its as bad as some people say, it has some good moments.

And the music of Bill Conti... man what a fucking great score.

Thats why Im also a fan of Punch-Out!! being the game parody of Rocky movies.
I felt that it was a very big missed oportunity in Punch-Out!! Wii (and it was a incredible game), that instead of using fucking Donkey Kong for the dream fight, they could have called Stallone and do a tribute to Rocky. Just make a little intro of Little Mac being a fan and watching a Rocky movie in TV, getting sleep in the coach and making a fight against Rocky in the dream. Bill Conti's Rocky music remixed with punch-out!! ring theme, Rocky saying famous quotes, Doc saying jokes about Rocky movies, and a difficult fight just as Mike Tyson or Mr.Dream. It would have been such a good ending for the second round of fighters...
Instead they put DK, that was there just because they couldnt think anything better.

This is fucking amazing, brought a tear to my eye.

Yeah, I had to watch the original again today. As I said before, III is my fave, but the original is hands down the best film of them all. Even after all these years, you cant help but get emotionally involved while watching the film.

It might be my favorite movie ever. It has this soulfulness few movies ever have

The correct, nay, only answer is Rocky II.

Rocky III and IV have some really great moments. Too bad the rest is wrapped in cheese.

I liked Rocky Balboa a lot, though.

My order:

1>6>2>4>3>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>5

4 is the most fun to watch though, of course ;)
