Best graphics of any game?

Yeah, that last yellowish room you linked blew me away when I got there. One of the nicest environments I've seen this generation.

I remember entering the room, looking up

and thinking, "I've gotta get up THERE?"

THIS

Killzone 2 and 3 in general are still my graphical kings in gaming. Everything is just right IMO.

My TV's scaler is complete ass, so any console game looks terrible on it. I need to get an HDPVR and use my PC to scale them instead.

Crysis RealLifesis By Hawkeye.

Game looks great with it, and its really only a ToD change, so the framerate stays almost identical.

I'm looking this up. Always up for new things to fuck around with in Crysis.

It clearly does not in my case, Uncharted 3 on the other hand is much crisper. Same goes for God of War III, best IQ I've seen (for a console game).

In my case pretty much all Sony first party games that I have played look clean. I turned the sharpness down to 20 though...I also play console games without my glasses :/

You have not played Killzone 3 then.

yup....even some of the multiplayer maps are too colourful (like blood gracht)

I don't wear glasses. ;)

My TV settings are good anyway, unfortunately I could not find how to enable AA. :(

have, and its a slight improvement over 2 but still is a very dull game, both graphically and gameplay
Fair enough you are entitled to your opinion.

Not enough love for Metro 2033 in this thread. Take a look at some screens from my Steam-collection:

I think the sequel has even more potential to be the best looking game ever made.

I find myself really frustrated by people who are just linking games that they think look nice, rather than games that actually have great graphics. Uncharted 3 doesn't have great graphics--Halo 3 beats it with its absurd draw distance, far higher amounts of geometry, and tesselation in the water, for instance--it just has fantastic art design (and human faces that aren't terrible).

Come on, guys, stop confusing art design with technical graphics. :(

I think STALKER: Clear Sky is a pretty impressive game, given the batshit insane levels of detail going on in every shot, but at this current stage, I'm fairly certain that The Witcher 2 is the current graphics king. Looks like Halo 4's cut down on the draw distance quite massively, and all that stuff in its backgrounds is just 2D.

I agree with those saying Wind Waker. Though I wouldn't say it has the greatest graphics ever, the fact that they don't seem to age is astonishing.

Do you have any kind of technical details to back this up ?

Halo 3 beats it with its absurd draw distance, far higher amounts of geometry, and tesselation
Do you have a source for this ?
See, you have to be very careful in your statements. The least you can do in that case is to elaborate on this.

I know that Reach features tessellated water, although the result is not impressive at all IMO.

Wind Waker has longer draw distance and tessellation in the water baby.

The Witcher 2 has my vote as well, but if I were to just look at screenshots I'd probably go with some other game. It looks much better in motion than in screenshots.

The Witcher 2 still doesn't look all that amazing. I mean, it looks good, yes, but for all the hype with the graphics PCers throw around with this game it's a bit underwhelming. Perhaps it's hard to capture how good the game looks with snap shots, but the shots I've seen in this thread of Crysis blow it the hell away.

The game starts looking ass once you get that open field area with dinosaurs roaming about. Worst grass ever!

yeah, that grass was pretty embarrassing.

but don't forget the following chapter.

Eden (even at 720p the video looks badly compressed)

wow that looks amazing! Too bad I never got to that chapter, I just couldn't defeat Vanille's eidolon. I honestly tried over 30 times... :/ I was actually starting to like the game too...

A lot of Crysis shots tend to be rendered at extreme resolutions and then downscaled which makes them look incredibly crisp, but it's not quite what it looks like when you play the game.

Yeah, XIII has some incredible stuff in it. Unfortunately XIII-2 ran worse, with worse image quality, and in my opinion, worse art. Hopefully XIII-3 is a stunner.

Ahh I see. So, in other words, they're bullshots. I had my suspicions of that, but I haven't had a gaming caliber PC in years. Thought I might simply be out of the loop on how good games are looking now.

I got this using the Reallifesis mod downsampled from 1440p + 2xSGSSAA. (~30fps, and yes I play like that)

XIII-2 was obviously rushed....I doubt XIII-3 will look that good, it will also be rushed. FFVersus13 on the other hand will look amazing.

After going back and running through Eden it's actually a massive area in comparison to the rest of the game. Plenty of alternative paths and open scenery. Also some lovely pre-rendered backgrounds. It's really worth just going back and panning the camera around.

Far as I can tell XIII-2 didn't re-use any major assets from Eden and Nautilus so hopefully they bring them back in XIII-3 as they looked so impressive.

Well, to some extent I guess, it can make the foliage look a lot better, but at the same time the lighting is often what makes Crysis look good more often than the crispness of the image. It also works as anti-aliasing, so a lot of edges become incredibly smooth and there's some almost sub-pixel detail. Look for example at the distant trees in the 3rd shot.

Forza 4 ;)

Honestly, one of the best games I've seen visually overall (Graphics/Lighting/Art Direction, not just graphics) is Red Dead Redemption ( I know ) and I'm not even a Rockstar fan.

Just graphics wise I'd probably say Killzone 2/3 along with Gran Turismo 5. (I'm not a PC gamer).

I disagree on a few levels. Aesthetics are just what people think is beautiful. Graphics don't necessarily have to be beautiful to be good. Fidelity isn't a worthless goal. For example, if the game is trying to communicate a realistic, dark and oppressive feel then the graphics shouldn't be heavy in primary colors and cell shading. Even if people find those things to be beautiful.

Graphics include things like particle effects and animation, which Killzone 2 excels at. Crackdown 2 is also a pretty good looking game, so I'm not sure why he specifically called those out for bad aesthetics.
