Best looking console ever?

I second the

with the original PS2 close behind. I love the stark look of it, and it was so refreshing when it came out, during the middle of the influence of the god-awful 1st gen iMac in industrial design. It was as far from that hideous trend of curved surfaces and fruity-colored translucent plastic as you can get.

I hate the PS3 design though. It looks high-end in a bland way, like something you'd see at Sharper Image for yuppies to buy to show off to their friends at dinner parties. Not edgy or cool at all like the PS2 or PSP are. The Rev is easily the nicest looking of the next-gen consoles, although at this point it's the one I'm least interested in getting.

The Mazora limited edition Dreamcast:

This one changes colors like those tacky cars from a couple of years ago. :D

Costs almost as much as one, too :(

I like the dreamcast the best. I also like the PS2's original, monolithic design. I thought it was pretty sleek. actually. :P

So it turns out the Pure White DS is actually silver with a white bottom. I just received mine in the mail yesterday and I was kinda shocked by that.

It still looks nice but it doesn't look as nice as it does in pics.

we had one of those where i use to work.

never knew it changes color.

PSTwo for consoles, PSP for handhelds.

I have very mixed feelings about the PS3 -- certain shots (of the black one) make me think it looks awesome, but from other angles I can't stand it. I really want to see it in person. I think the white and silver versions look awful all over, though.

Consoles I can't believe were posted seriously in the thread: Xbox 360, DS, Xbox. I can see the charm in all of the other nominations but these three.

I donno what one you got -- but it should be a pearl-white with plastic-white bottom... Mine's noticably different from my gf's, it shines across the room

I went it to every topic about white DS to make people aware of that! To my surprise a lot of the other responses were that it rocks. I ebayed mine... and the shock I got is scary me away from important the black/red DS

:lol PS3 is at one vote I think, and it was the original post :lol

Anyone with some sense would vote Revolution or Micro. I don't see what the appeal is of the PS3. Its <<SIZE>> is what makes it ugly.

no they're not

.c.o.n.s.o.l.e.s..... handheld-consoles -------- It's really not too hard to comprehend, and yes many have had some of the best looking industrial-design among products in generall.

Revolution looks like a fucking cable modem.

My vote goes to PS2 Slimline, though I personally was never too excited by how my consoles looked.

I usually don't consider handhelds as consoles. But this really depends on the context.

I mean, we call them 'home' consoles for a reason. Though usually, we'll just call them 'consoles' sans the 'home'.

true, there are home-consoles and portable/handheld-consoles ----- but it seems that they're all consoles, and some look damn sexy :)

but, if Yoshi's Island is a great console-game on the SNES --- is it no longer a great "console-game" on the GBA???

The correct answer:

1)
master1.jpg

still gives me goosebumps

2)
NECTurboExpress.jpg

this was the sexiest thing on the planet when it came out

3)
sega_genesis.jpg

more goosebumps

IMO, there's still nothing that says "videogame" to me quite as solidly as a good old (lovably broken) woodgrain-style Atari 2600.

I'm digging the look of the Dreamcast and PSP. I want to include the PS3 in the list, but there's something a little too art deco about its design for my taste.

When I first saw a picture of the PS2 (old model) I thought they must be joking, there's no way this is real. I was really impressed. The design was much more revolutionary than the step from PS2 to PS3.

I like the design of the PS3 and the Revolution, but it's not as impressive as the PS2 design was 6 years ago.

Sticking with standard colors

Home: Platinum Cube

I've always liked the look of the cube, particularly the Platinum edition. Sure, it doesn't really fit in with other home electronics, but I think that's part of the reason I like the look.

Portable: PSP

Slick.

Revolution looks amazing, but it's not the final design yet. Dreamcast is also very nice system, and the platinum Gamecube looks great.

Japanese and European SNES systems were very nice looking, as was MegaDrive 1 and 2. Neo Geo was nice, especially with that big controller with similar looking design. PSOne looks pretty good, the old PS1 was just ok. Saturn and N64 weren't anything special either.

PS2, PS3 and Xbox are pretty ugly, especially the original Xbox. Xbox 360 looks a bit better.

With portables it's more matter of combination of style and functionality then just style... GBA SP is the best so far, the screen stays protected and the system is small and stylish. GB Micro is also pretty good. PSP looks great, but it's not very functional design. DS is functional, but just ok looking.
