I'm in that mood...depressed really...I'm looking for some good videogame ambient-type music to listen to...everyone please post their favorite songs from videogames

I really like Fallout 1 and 2's ambient music. One song sounds almost EXACTLY like an Aphex Twin song from Selected Ambient Works Vol.II (disk 1).

Akira Yamaoka made some hauntingly beautiful music for Silent Hill 2, as well. Two specific examples are 'White Noiz' and 'The Day of Night'.

Shenmue OST.

He wanted depressing music, not gameplay.

But yeah, if you wanna cry, put "People Seized With Life" from Chrono Cross on repeat and listen to it with headphones. Heh.

Resident Evil 2's Save Room music

"The Cross Children" from The Bouncer

"Requiem of the Gods" Castlevania:SOTN

"Antidote" Final Fantasy Tactics

"Dilapidated Way" Sonic Adventure

"Silent Light" Chrono Trigger

"Sealed Door" Chrono Trigger

"Village of the Eru" Wild Arms

"Santuary Dungeon" Legend of Zelda:LttP

"Water Temple" Legend of Zelda:OOT

"Ending" MegaManX

"Despair" Tales of Destiny(Probably my fave "downer" theme to listen to)

"Anxious Heart" FFVII

"Holding my thoughts in my heart" FFVII

"Illusionary World" FFIV

"Maridia 2" Super Metroid

Hate to say it...But Perfect Dark. Chicago, Datadyne...Really good ambient stuff there. And I second the Silent Hill 2 OST, one of the best soundtracks ever.

Without a doubt the greatest peive of music ever composed for a video game is .....

Drum Roll please....

... Rogue by Matt U??????? for Diablo 2.
It was the music for the first chapter in the Rogue Camp.

I still listen to this song at least twice a week on my ipod.

Syndicate, Policenauts and Snatcher have some really great themes, not sure if they fit with your petition, but I think is possible.

Anything from The Dig - while not "ambient" from the traditional sense, it's quite a mellow score, and serves to set a mood more than anything else. Completely symphonic, too. Try the opening track, "Mission to the Asteroid".

Yasunori Mitsuda's "Sailing to the World" is also pretty good - extremely similar to Chrono Cross. If you like CC's score, you will LOVE this. Here are some samples. Seriously, it's great stuff.
