PSO was still cool though! It just wasn't what the fans REALLY wanted.
You can blame Sony for that. Dual Hearts is the "real" Alundra 2.jgkspsx said:Alundra 2.
It would be akin to calling Battle Arena Toshinden "Street Fighter 3."

vitaflo said:Oh snap! You're right! Scratch what I said, PSO biggest betrayal EVAR.
Unison said:I don't think so at all... I had way more fun playing FFII on the GBA (which I'd never played before) than FF 7, 8 or 10.
Same can be said for fanboys still fapping to FF7.SolidSnakex said:Yah the biggest being nostalgia.
:lol DARING? Other than making openly gay men prominent characters and increasing bust sizes across the board I haven't seen anything remotely daring.SolidSnakex said:It's still oldschool. Square seem to become more daring with FF7 on, they're trying alot of different potentially risky things with the series and its all been for the better I think.

FF9 was the one that wasn't which I didn't like at all. It was a rather mediocre tribute to the other games which didn't really need to happen.

Ugh. UGH. UUUUUUUUUUUUUGH.
It's not too bad, certainly better than Alundra 2. Better than Kingdom Hearts too actually.Musashi Wins! said:I don't know how this plays into the argument....but Dual Hearts is really bad.

SolidSnakex said:Like it or hate it, you can't deny that it was a big risk. First sequel to any FF and an all female cast.
SolidSnakex said:Doesn't get much more nostalgic than that.
Unison said:The PSX games were pretty ugly, though. The SNES ones still look fine. I'm not complaining about the PS2 Final Fantasy games, which look fine.

SolidSnakex said:When FF7, FF8 and FF9 came out you thought they looked ugly?

Sonic and Knuckles ownz you. Play that sucker with the double cart starting with Sonic 3 and you'll know what I'm talking about.borghe said:if we aren't just talking about system changes but gamestyle changes, I think it would be hard to argue against this as the SINGLE biggest betrayal of all time.......:
Sonic Adventure.
The last proper sonic game we got was Sonic 3 which I think overall was incredibly well received. To go from that (and its expansion pack) to Sonic Adventure well.... obviously Sega was hoping to make a SMW->Mario 64 transition, and while Sonic Adventure had its highlights, it was anything but....
Wait, what? VII and VIII have the same damn battle systems all the other FF games have, just with different magic/customizing systems, and X has THE best battle system in the entire FF series (just basically everything else about the game more or less sucked to varying degrees).Jive Turkey said:Has nothing to do with old school...It is just FF7, 8 and 10 have all sucked in both battle system and story aspects.
Himuro said:Bullshit. FFVIII and IX are still the most amazing looking psx games along side Vagrant STory. What the FUCK are you smoking?

Himuro said:And FFVIII and IX still looked great compraed to pc games that came out around then, especially ugly shit like half life.
Himuro said:I said psx. Not pc. And FFVIII and IX still looked great compraed to pc games that came out around then, especially ugly shit like half life. I'm talking about 3d not 2d btw.
Himuro said:Well since I'm just now getting into pc, please post pics pf pc titles from that era.
Even though FFVIII and IX may not have been better looking than the pc titles (assuming) to act like they were ugly seems really dumb to me.
The pc titles I've played from that era never looked as appealing FFVIII, IX, or VS. None of them. These titles range from Half Life to Grim Fandago to Duke Nukem 3d and I was never as impressed as I was with the psx FF's with Grim being the only exception. But even then, the character models for that game are pretty ugly to me.
big risk? you got to be kidding. that game had quick cash-in written all over it.SolidSnakex said:like it or hate it, you can't deny that it was a big risk. First sequel to any FF and an all female cast.

Unison said:There are very few 3d PSX/N64 games that looked good, imo.
I had a PC w/ a 3d card at the time and it made them look assy.
2d graphics pretty much looked better than 3d ones until the Dreamcast came along.

Actually, I wouldn't mind seeing new SEGA AGES lines for each of the current handhelds. Pixel perfect MD ports for GBA, perfect Saturn ports for DS and perfect DC ports for PSP would work really well I think... something along the lines of this...radioheadrule83 said:the SEGA Ages games (a celebration of SEGA history) were relegated to one console also. I would argue that some of the SEGA Ages series might have done really well with the Nintendo audience, many of whom remember playing the games for the first time.
