Bill Maher - Republicans are the same as 14 year olds who are dicks.

Either I made up lies about the Boston Bomber or I fell for someone else's crap. Either way, I have absolutely no credibility and you should never pay any attention to anything I say, no matter what the context. Perm me if I claim to be an insider
Maher is funny, but he's becoming more and more of a dick as he gets older...

But then I guess that's his bread and butter.

Fuck. It's like those toddler beauty contests.

So are a lot of us. It's getting pretty sick all around. He's standing up. Fuck you willy nilly kids!

I think that might be the first time I've ever agreed with Bill Maher. On a side note...Rachel Maddow is a boss.

No, but generalizing can be.

But, the Republican party CAN be generalized by their views, which are a general consensus. These immature dick stains are just regurgitating the general stance of the Republicans. Maybe a self-identified Republican can deviate from the consesus of his party, but it doesn't negate the the abhorrent, unthinking, demagoguery of the Republican party, a party that represents a consensus of beliefs (beliefs that happen to generally by vile and counter-productive to positive progress in any measure) of its constituents.

I don't want a Christian version of Sharia law, but I also don't want the future that could be described best by Demolition Man.

I don't know where I belong :(

Seriously well said.

I felt this way before I found out the context of the video. Feels spot on in regards to the issue he's truth bombing on.

Out of politics and around sane people.

If you hate republicans or democrats you're an idiot with very strong opinions that don't even belong to you- regardless how much it feels like they do.

as opposed to the abhorrent, self-righteous demagoguery of the Democrats

PS I am not a Republican, nor Christian, nor white. and I'm going to vote for Obama

I kind of like it, but I'm pretty biased. There are some really annoying liberal kids out there , but I don't think they'd be positioned as gifted children. If you're spewing rhetoric and things you've heard from mom and dad without truly questioning them, you're nothing more than a puppet.

There are sick people on both sides, but liberal fanatics are more tolerable, if only because their obsession is helping living creatures.

Conservative zealots can always be characterized by hatred, greed and destruction.

The only way out is better infrastructure. Getting more people living in the boonies within reach of work and education only available in cities.

Oh, an "independent", like the kind that always place themselves on a pedestal because they're so unattached and rational minded. You're so cool and I wish I could be like you when I grow up. I wish I could be "in the middle" regardless of wherever the discourse ends up, no matter how much one party spreads divisive rhetoric and refuses to cooperate in any manner for the sake of political expedience. I can't wait to be an "independent" and go around telling everyone how I'm so much better than them.

Funny how you just did all that stuff you don't like.

Just to put it in perspective:

The republican party is a widely varied, inclusive and thoughtful hub of intellectual activity, logic and tolerance. It strives to make the country better for all of its constituents and it has done so by engaging and collaborating with those on the other side of the aisle to reach consensus and sensible compromise and only focuses on serious, real issues that affect the nation.

The hatred and destruction are just symptoms of the greed. It's an ideology of selfishness (kind of). I think the country is going to grow past this in the next 20 years, but it's really dumb we have to wait to get back to principles of governing that more mimic the vision of the vast majority of these people's savior.

It's not that they don't believe in his teachings either, it's that they don't believe government can be good. Which is self-destructive and--obviously now--extremely harmful to society in general.

Apparently the only good in the world can come from the invisible hand of capitalism and charitable donations to churches.

Wow. Maybe an independent is just someone who looks at each issue individually without strictly following some part line dogma. Maybe an independent is just less likely to have a cult-like attitude.

"So yes we groom children."

Republicans arent all homophobes.

But most homophobes are republicans.

God, why is america so damn hateful and polarised.

It just saddens me seeing youth be so narrow minded.

I'm in complete agreement with Maher when he refers to "sane" republicans of the past. I might actually consider myself Republican to a degree if that was how they were represented during modern times. But the repubs got hijacked by dumbfuck idiots. Total batshit party they are now.

Sometimes those liberal fanatics will kill people to shut down labs that provide life saving medicine for all species. Oh, you thought all of this medicine only helps humans?

And liberal zealots can always be characterized as lazy sloths that demand equal pay and treatment compared to people who busted their ass and went through hell to get where they are.

I have strong opinions. I'm not a "averaging = truth" kinda guy. But guess what, my strong political opinions don't happen to neatly line up (or line up AT ALL) with the Tweedle Dum and Tweedle Dee platforms that were created to serve/pander to immensely broad constituencies. These platforms were CREATED to be compromises, built on demagoguery, not coherent ideological vehicles. They don't even arise to the level of an orthodox political school of thought.

Even when being partisan, having a smug and preachy sense of superiority about "your party"- especially when the two parties are so similar when it comes to actual governance- is just foolish.

This is also why Jon Stewart is the fucking man. He has an open-minded fairness to him that many of similar political persuasion would do well to emulate.

The problem is that it's impossible to vote for a Republican if you're truly an independent. Maybe you can abstain or vote for a third party candidate, but if you vote for a Republican, it's clear that you're not paying attention to the discourse and actions of the party. Current Republicans (not to be confused with old-school Republicans) clearly have an agenda of poisoning the well for the sake of political expedience. That or they truly believe in their hateful, divisive and ultimately unproductive rhetoric. Voting Republican should be anathema to anyone who tries to vote rationally. Either vote for a Democrat or don't vote for a Republican (either abstain or vote third-party). The only correct course fate for the current Republican party is to crash and burn and replaced by something more sane. If you can't see this, you shouldn't label yourself as an "independent".

You could make a similar generalization about the left and people have. For instance, I was called an freedom hating, Marxist, idiot by my best friends father a few weeks ago. It pissed me off hearing that generalization just as Maher's statement would be for a conservative. The difference is the way each side generalizes and ultimately propagandizes the other side.

In a liberal's eyes, conservatives are ignorant and uncompromising. In a conservative's eyes, liberals are evil and scheming to end America. Both are far from the truth, but an argument could be made that a conservatives generalization of liberals is much further from the truth.

This is more of an indictment of the current political situation in America than it has to do with voting Republican. This is the time where the country needs to forget about the two party system and move on to a multi party system. Each party would have to clearly state their stance on what they believe in. It would help Americans align their own political beliefs to a party rather than a person who is pandering to an audience.

I hear you man. I'm a registered republican, what a fucking joke.

Consider myself conservative, but have always voted my conscience.

After talking to conservatives--mostly in my own family, because otherwise it's too awkward--they are ignorant and uncompromising these days. At least the mainstream ones. I get a lot of conservative style thinking, and engage in it regularly so I don't turn into one of those uber-liberal weirdos, but mainstream conservatives these days are actually retarded. It's the fundamental attribution error turned into a political party.

You see one party appeals to a human's common sense and one doesn't (as it exists currently), as it only appeals to those sheltered in their hatred bubble. You ever notice how there aren't any Republican driven entertainment/comedy shows on television? Daily Show, Maher, Colbert, they all are so funny and appealing because making fun of Republicans writes itself, all they have to do is state fact with attitude and people laugh.

That's an absolutely terrible equivalency. How many people on the left are actually Marxist (that was a rhetorical question and the number is exceedingly small)?

How many people on the right are concerned with preventing gays from marrying?

The comparison is utterly ridiculous.

Until the Republican party evolves into something more sane, it simply should not be taken seriously by anyone with a shred of rationality.
