Huh, this design does put to rest the question of how would they incorporate the replaceable plates and disc drive in the new design, since the Pro would have to be bigger to accommodate more heat: just make it more vertical by putting some "dark space" in between. This streamlines the process of not needing new plate or disc drive manufacturing; just slide in what you already have.
I expect $599 for digital and if you want physical you can buy the attachment drive or, if you already have a PS5 slim, swap the Pro's side plate with the slim's Blue Ray

Was about to post this and aligns nicely with what our resident insiders have said.

Maybe this design allows for people to use their current plates if they want to.

I have a slim in my office and despite alot of the naysayers it's significantly smaller than my Phat in the living room.

So there will only be one SKU (PS5 Pro Digital), and then you'll have to buy the disc drive attachment separately? Oh man... this is going to be an expensive console.

Edit: Nvm, there might be a SKU with disc drive as well

3. Missing disk drive?

Unfortunately, we are not sure about this yet. Because indeed, the visual we have comes from a PS5 Pro without a disc player . However, and even if we think that this will not be the case, we do not know about the existence of an edition with a disc player. Even if it will probably be possible to put a disc player on it (like the PS5 Slim).

It is believed that this is rather a commercial choice by Sony, in order to launch this console on the market with a competitive price by reducing the costs on the presence (optional for some) of a disc player.

Surprised that it doesn't seem much bigger than the Slim. Maybe it is a reduction from 6nm after all and not as some rumours said still using that process. Though the increase in raw GPU/CPU power is modest so maybe being slightly thicker is all it needs for cooling. I'm just waiting to see the AI tech in action. DLSS level upscaling on a console would allow it to punch so far above it's weight.

Nah he stated that they know about an edition with a disc player

Edit: oops I read it wrong it's too early they actually don't know

For compatibility with the slim's disc drive the body panels would have to be the exact same size, which apparently they are. So that makes sense. The three lines means the gaps between the panels are slightly bigger so it looks like it will be a bit taller than the Slim as well. In terms of size it's probably something like halfway between the slim and the original ps5.

Really interesting that it will be the size and look of the Slim.
I was expecting something at least equal to the 2020 design.

I'm guessing 599$ digital.
Can't wait for the Cerny presentation 🔥 :messenger_beermugs:

Hope nobody gets confused if they want to buy the PS5 Pro Digital SKU that looks like a PS5 Slim, according to some here the entirely different looking Xbox Series X and S are too confusing for the general public 🫢
You didn't even see the packaging yet lol.

How many years have you been waiting for this chance? What people have said about the Xbox is the naming scheme being confusing. Things are a bit clearer on the Playstation.

This goes against Grubb’s rumour for an event being held at the end of next month.

Unless there is an announcement, a state of play, and TGS all in the one month.

I want the PS5 Pro to have two internal NVMe expansion slots but it is unlikely as Sony seldom do anything unexpected. I mean even their (very late) implementation of VRR is barebones and doesn't work for last gen PS4 games (unlike the Xbox Series X|S which supports older games with VRR). As such, I expect to be disappointed in this regard.

I will almost certainly buy a PS5 Pro but in my opinion it should also have more memory (4 or 8 GB) and a faster clocked CPU rather than just having a more powerful GPU for the complete package. That said, I expect support for the Pro won't be great with only Sony supporting it with the few triple A games they release these days. Third-parties will likely not bother unless Sony are prepared to pay extra to have support. My expectations are that the real benefit will come from more stable framerates and higher dynamic resolutions in games that using dynamic resolutions and that will likely be enough for me. Really want more storage space though without having to replace the existing 2 TB WD SSD that is in my PS5. I also hope that I can just put the existing WD SSD in the Pro and have it work and hope that it won't require a reformat, something that isn't always guaranteed on PlayStation consoles (swapping internal HDDs on the PS3 and PS4 required reformatting for example).

*EDIT*
I hope this is also an all-black model and that there is a SKU that includes the disc drive.

Showcase/announcement + TGS "hands on"/3rd party announcements and trailers the same week, perhaps.
You're just a boiling chicken.
When they're handing my carcass on a silver platter around the table, I hope you get my ass :lollipop_baby_angel:

It's mandated that any game released after some date (was it April or August this year?) has to support the various options provided by the PS5 Pro (higher framerates/resolutions).

I think the system will punch quite above it's weight, despite the specifications. Also, I believe when things started coming out about this a while ago, devs are required to have a PS5 Pro patch.
