Billbill-kun: Horizon Lego is day 1 on PC and PS5

This thread rules. Bootlickers. Trolls. Bespoke memes. Coping. The M Night Shymalan Nintendo Switch plot twist. It truly has it all and it's all over a fuckin Lego game.

I am sorry you can't understand Sony owns Horizon, I can't help you at this point unless you are implying Lego just took that property from SIE and can do with it what they want with zero input from Sony

I'm sorry you can't understand Lego owns Lego. I can't help you at this point unless you are implying that Sony can do whatever they want with another company's IP and studio and that this is 100% different than the MLB situation, when it's not. It's actually similar. Want an MLB game? Must be cross platform. Want a lego game? Must be cross platform.

Want a Spider-Man game? :messenger_smiling_with_eyes:

Sony must have some power on this because it's not coming to Xbox

They have exclusive rights
Not for the games since early 2000s, that was Activision. They own theatrical release Spider-Man (movies, anything over 40 minutes or something).
But yes, I agree with your other statement. They negotiated with LEGO about the platforms, it wasn't just a Sony choice.

No one expects the next Naughty Dog game to release on PC day 1 but the overton window clearly continues to shrink closer towards everything on PC day 1. Until Dawn Remake shows that remakes is in play for day 1. If Lego Horizon is on PC it shows that externally-developed games but SIE-published games are in play for day 1. Would a game like say Stellar Blade or Physint be PC day 1 if it was signed by SIE today?
Huh, Physint was obviously signed a good while after Until Dawn 2024.

Its always Horizon game which set some precedence for Sony's strategy to go multiplatform.

Horizon Zero Dawn - 1st Playstation game to go to PC
Horizon Forbidden West - 1st Playstation sequel to go to PC despite Sony saying they are trying to entice PC players to PS5 with sequels
Lego Horizon - 1st non-GAAS Playstation game published by Playstation to day 1 release on PC and Nintendo Switch

It's also LIVE SERVICE

You gonna put this to rest now??????

It's "live service" like how Ghosts of Tsushima is "live service"; it's an optional 2-player co-op experience.

Basically like It Takes Two, but you can play co-op online. The game doesn't revolve around a persistent online experience in any way, and you can probably even play it solo by setting the other character to an AI.

I refuse to call this a live service in the same way a Destiny 2, Concord, Helldivers 2 or even stuff like GT7 and MLB The Show (both games you can fully play solo and ignore the online stuff if you want) are.

Who knew a Lego game would be so celebrated? Sony/Lego should have gone all in and put it on Xbox too if they were going to include Switch. Maybe the ROI just wasn't there. I am not sure this is the victory or defeat some want it to be. If Sony is going to introduce the Horizon format on other platforms, Lego seems like a good way to do it. Also, no PS4 is weird. Unless it was going to run poorly.

Does this make it a service game or something? Why have you said repeatedly that this Lego game is GaaS? Didn't see anything about that in the trailer.
I have no idea what does GaaS and co-op has to do with anything either, but I guess I shouldn't try to understand nonsense.

Anyway, I came across this article. Might be related to why some people are sprouting nonsenses.

People really need to get over games releasing on more platforms..

Like if you gonna get angry do so at consolidation and games bring taken from platforms.

Yes

If Sony made a new Killzone with co op and pvp it would be live service as well

Whoever said it before said it correctly. You aren't genuine. You say whatever stupid things you think will get you the most engagement.

A co-op game is not a live service game. PvP doesn't automatically make something live service. That's just dumb.

It Takes Two, amazing live service game!

This Lego game having two player co-op doesn't make it a live service game. Now, are there elements like season/battle passes, MTX, in game economy, rotating content, etc? That would make it a live service game. Does this game have those? Genuinely curious.

Live service just means there's a multiplayer component. That's all it is

If this was being wholly developed by Traveler's Tales and not a Sony dev working with someone else I would say this day 1 means nothing. As it is, this isn't the sign that day 1 is here but it's definitely coming.

This is clearly a collaboration, it's not meant to be a big single player release and it's also not a live service game from what I've read. It's a sort of an experimental side project and falls somewhere between the two sides of this discussion IMO. It's not a tentpole game nor is GG really making it, I'm sure they have input etc, putting it on switch makes sense. It's family friendly and could possible attract younger players to the IP as they get older. I think this IP is in danger of running itself into the ground personally but I already talked about that someplace else lol.

You might actually have a point here. It's always Horizon that sets the pace, isn't it?

Or, it certainly feels that way.

Who knew a Lego game would be so celebrated? Sony/Lego should have gone all in and put it on Xbox too if they were going to include Switch. Maybe the ROI just wasn't there. If the Switch can run it, the PS4 could definitely run it. This is just SIE's choice to not put it on PS4 so PS4 owners have more reason to buy a PS5.

I think as a console owner, more of an issue would be that this is $40 while Astro Bot is $60. I think Astro's easily worth the $60, but it also suggests that if it were even PC Day 1, it'd probably be $50 or even $40.

Is that going to lead to a case where some PS5 owners actually ask for new releases to be multiplat, if that means a cheaper price for them as well? We'll see.

Live service just means there's a multiplayer component. That's all it is

So are you saying anything that's even a tiny bit live-service would fit the GAAS moniker and thus would be perfectly fine going to PC Day 1 for you?

Because that would mean Ghosts of Tsushima 2, Death Stranding 2, or even stuff like the next God of War and Spiderman could qualify as Day 1 PC releases, because they'd all have some type of multiplayer component.

Live-service in the context of games SIE could prioritize for Day 1 across other platforms, IMO should be limited to games where there is a persistent online component that is core to the overall game experience. Especially if it's a game that can only be played online.

With your definition, something like Demon's Souls Remake would be live-service and should be Day 1 on PC. Under my definition, it's not a live service because the online component is not integral to the core experience and the game can be fully experienced offline as a single-player experience.

Possibly. I think it partially depends on how much it slants one way vs the other

Ghost, probably not.

A new KZ with an 8 hour campaign, co-op and pvp? A strong possibility

So if this is true sony is saying that smaller more experimental games are day one on other platforms which is redcioulous to make a distinction out of that. Everyone thought that sony will keep sp games exclusive for 1 to 2 years at least but it doesnt seem the case. So its probably 1 or 2 timed exclusives per year at best.

The reasoning for thats is that they will try to make people on others platforms buy playstations.

So hulst is fucking up nishino work with this bullshit. This wont work.

That guy is not Sony.
