I think those blocks of blood are going to come out of the screen and hit me in the face....oi.

This could be cool with RE4 gameplay in RE1, but god this game looks horrendous. Ugh, I feel like I'm going back in time to the late 1990s with DS 3D games.

Just a couple of things.

#1 For a 3D game on DS (which is barf in itself), this doesn't look too bad. Still, 3D shouldn't be even THOUGHT of on the DS. Barf barf barf. 2D am best. Yes.

#2 The DS can to prerendered BGs just fine, if they wanted to. It's all a matter of storing those uncompressed bitmaps somewhere on the card.

#3 The models look a tonne better than the original RE on PSX. Believe me folks, there aren't as many seams at least, this time.

#4 PSX RE ran at something lower than 320X240, probably closer to 290X 200 which isn't all that high res when you're talking about the prerendered backgrounds. I remember some really nasty shit in both RE and RE:2 for PSX. That's why RE:2 64 looked better. They had high-res compressed .jpg images for the background. (When you used the RAM expansion pack).

Resolution is probably about the same between the DS and most PSX games. (Yes this is sad.)

#5 Yet another remake? Christ on a stick. Oh well, I'm a Biohazard/RE whore. I'll end up buying it anyway. Sigh.

Actually I wanted this game really bad +6 years ago

...yes, my standards for handheld gaming were quite lower back then.

I'd fully expect Outbreak to migrate to PSP in some form now (though given Monster Hunter, it may be ad-hoc only). So much for Mikami's "not suited to handhelds" line...

Looks good relative to DS. Hopefully the promise of some (competently) remixed gameplay and modes actually comes to fruition to enhance the overall package. Though being a Resident Evil fan I'd largely be presold on this anyway.

man so ugly could be interesting gameplay wise but damn these screenshots don't give me any incentive to try the game out.

2d is the DS way of life fuck 3d.

Haven't I already played this game too.

yeah that's another thing, I played this game on GC dammit looked fucking awesome why should I lower myself to play this game with PSX-era graphics for the what...10th time? :( capcom how bout original content for once kthxbye.

It definitely looks like it has promise. Never forget that every time we've seen screenshots of a game for the DS, the actual game always looks so much better. The most recent example would be Nintendogs.

I'd say the graphics are acceptable since its DS and it would be nice to have the map. But I've already played the game, I know the story and all the puzzles. Lame.

'doesn't look that bad'

are some of you people shitting me? Man... you DS fans have really come to grips with low standards, haven't you?

If DS was the only video game unit you owned... and you just woke up from a 15 year coma, sure, I could understand this being acceptable or 'this doesn't look bad'. Come on.

I'd be great if we could tap a room on the map and write a message with the pen, like "eagle medallion" so we can remember where we're supposed to take it

A great game's a great game, whether or not it's as gorgeous as God of War on PS2 or as ugly and archaic as Super Mario Bros. on the NES. To me, graphics do not dictate a game's quality. It's the experience, and the original Resident Evil is a game that resonates in many gamers minds, even after close to ten years.

But if all you care about are visuals, then that's your perogative.

Good comparison, except SMB's level design is its biggest asset. This is not true for RE, which relies more on atmosphere and tension... and just how much of that can you convey with subpar graphics on a small, shitty screen?

Now that would make a map screen worthwhile. As such, I expect no developer to implement it. Ever.

Touche, but you get the gist of what I'm saying.

And yeah, I'm definitely a little curious how the atmosphere will translate. More specifically, the aural portion of it. Is there enough space on a DS cart for them to have all the voice-overs and how will they handle the cut-scenes (use the in-game visuals or have FMV)? So many questions.

as soon as they announced that the DS was, that idea popped in my head, it'd be great in metroid and castlevania as well

Thanks for the education there, Professor Mc.Numbnuts. Ever since playing ADVENTURE for the Atari2600 in 1984, I've never put 2 and 2 together and realized that "a great game is a great game". Thanks... no... really...

You might have been very young 10 years ago when RE1 was released, but it was a showcase of graphics and presentation. Period. The game was never a defining factor of excellent gameplay.
Resident Evil is an extremely dated game... and it doesn't have it's graphics and presentation to make up for it's sloppy, tank, key-fetch-quest gameplay anymore. This game looks like complete ass... BUT NOW YOU CAN PLAY THE CLUNKY GAMEPLAY WITH A PLASTIC BIC PEN!

If you turkeys want to fork over $30 or $40 so you can stroll down nostalgia blvd. and 'experience' RE1: Downgrade Version, that's your choice... but don't put yourself on some kind of goddamn pedistal and pretend that people that are disgusted by this game are simply graphics whores.

This sounds very familiar.

re: topic; rejoice as you can now cradle and touch these decade old polygons that are so near your heart. BioHazard© shirt pocket heart warmer sold seperately.

If this is really in 3d then shit I think it looks phenomenal in comparison to the other 3D DS games. The lighting and architecture look pretty good. A lot of stuff is pixellated but that's to be expected from the system. I probably won't buy it, but I do want to see what it looks like in motion.

The difference between real time NDS and prerendered PS isn't that great.
Make the DS version darker and add some lighting and you have it.

WTF? Can't you see that it's the exact same pre-rendered background at a different resolution?
Where does this rumor of RE:DS being fully 3D come from anyway?

Or is this some kind of joke?

I thought it was fully 3D. I saw shots of a FP view.
If not, whoops.

The first-person screenshots look just as static as the ones from the Resident Evil that was actually released on GBC, in which you couldn't move while killing the zombies. Let's hope this game turns out better than this.

For some reason, that unfinished 2D bastardization of RE is more appealing to me. I want to play that. I'd like to play RE in a format that just seems so different.

Wow, if this is full 3D, then it really shows how much more capable the DS is compared to the PSone and Saturn.

Uh, play Dino Crisis. It was full 3D survival horror from Capcom and looked 3x better than this shit.

The reason why the DS screens are so bright is probably because theyll look a ton more dim on the actual DS LCD. Dont handheld games never look as bright as a screenshot/video online

Looks like realtime backgrounds on the bigger pictures in the first page. I mean I really can't believe that something pre-rendered could look like that.

Nintendo's handhelds so far had really weak ass screen light, so I guess you have a point if that's all you've owned.

Nobody thinks this will look better by the time it gets released?

Jeez, I was just flipping through old Nintendo Powers the other day. Early OoT looked really shitty...

That sort of logic didn't help Saturn Daytona, Bubsy 3D or the first PS2 Gameday, did it?

It could go either way, but it seems if the graphics are bad from the get-go, it doesn't bode well.

Actually, FYI, my first system wasn't a PSOne. My first system was an Atari 2600, so I too played games like Adventure, ET, Indiana Jones, and other games of that age. And I was 15 when the PSOne came along, thank you very much.

Dated or not, greatness is greatness. That game redefined a genre and set new standards. And so what if it is (dated); It doesn't change the fact it's a great stroll down memory lane for those of us who enjoyed the PSOne version and own a DS. That game was worth 50 dollars when it first came out, and will be worth 30 when it comes out for the DS.

Had you come out of the gates with something more constructive than "are some of you people shitting me? Man... you DS fans have really come to grips with low standards, haven't you?", then maybe I'd grant some credence to anything you have to say, but you didn't, so I won't.

If what I think is true, and you're in the PSP camp, then enjoy having a damn-near release-less fall/winter season. Us DS'ers will be sitting back and playing a multitude of great games like Advance Wars DS, Nintendogs, Mario Kart, Animal Crossing, and Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow, while your PSP collects dust and loses a few more pixels.

And I don't play my DS with plasic Bic Pen, I play it with Pac-Man. Waka, waka, bitch!

Now that's just a silly thing to say.

Okay, maybe the dead pixel thing is a stretch (give me a break, I was miffed). But prove me wrong on the release-less season and name at least five guaranteed hit PSP games due out by Christmas.
