Biohazard (Resident Evil) for DS

Okay, maybe the dead pixel thing is a stretch (give me a break, I was miffed). But prove me wrong on the release-less season and name at least five guaranteed hit PSP games due out by Christmas.

Both of you should stop being douches and arguing personal taste. The only ones that lose in the end are Portugese orphans.

And Based on that screen comparison Oli posted, its the PS1 version of the mansion, since the GC version that room isn't a dead end, theres a corridor there. It looks like they're doing a straight ps1 port with updated models and some first person-type combat. Hopefully its more than that though.

Do you have anything against the Portuguese people?han?

Uh..no.. That's why I asked them to stop hurting them. Does no one else think of these things? The poor poor children.

*insert owl pic*

The backgrounds are 3d. You can see polygonal objects and blocky textures due to the lack of filtering. But really, the game doesn't look as bad as some people pretend. The fact that many can't even tell if it's prerendered or not is certainly a compliment even if they won't admit it.

Uh, play Dino Crisis. It was full 3D survival horror from Capcom and looked 3x better than this shit.

Hurray for bland backgrounds?

Let's say for a minute it's pre-rendered... why on earth would they have taken PlayStation assets rather than Gamecube assets, at DS resolution (any shrinking done with a Windows 3.1 version of MS Paint) and then proceed to completely go nuts with the contrast and brightness?

The initial rumor we had months back stated that it would be a fully 3d remake, have first person-esque elements, touch screen puzzles and you'd be able to slash with your knife... We can see elements of all of that here. I'm going to concede, some of these shots are showing IDENTICAL static camera shots as the PlayStation game. My gut feeling is that its a 3d game with static and free camera systems... a free camera wouldn't really be beneficial in some of the original RE's tiny corridors anyway. If its just a remake and it retains the same camera system and everything -- whats new? Whats the pull?

IF it does turn out to be pre-rendered backgrounds I'm gonna wonder why, 10 years after the original game, since which its visuals have long been surpassed - they couldn't match the stills in the Silent Hill GBA-story, or why they basically went out of their way to avoid doing contemporary-quality renders.

- Character models and motion have been redone

- New traps and battles

- One particularly scary new bit involves smarter zombies who'll actually work their way around doors as they chase after you. You'll find that there's no solace in a room that you think you've completely freed from zombie infestation.

- The DS's stylus is being put to use in the remake. You'll use the stylus to work your way through puzzles. The only example we have is a simple one -- inputting numbers into a key pad in order to unlock a door. The stylus is also used when facing off against zombies with your knife. You slash away at your foes by, as you might expect, scratching the screen with the stylus.

- Capcom also has plans for wireless support, although details have yet to be revealed. Deadly Silence is still pretty early into development, so we're not expecting to see it for a while. However, seeing as how the game is part of Capcom's 10th anniversary celebration for the Resident Evil series, we expect a release some time next year.

any chance that the 2nd screen switches to first person (point at the bad guys with the stylus to stab/shoot them or whatever) at certain sections while top screen remains in the static, 3rd person viewpoint? Sort of like a minigame, like im sure the game will do for puzzles.

I'll have to buy this game. I'm impressed they were able to render the prerendered backgrounds in full 3D on the DS.
:(.... :(

those are mutually exclusive dude. sorry.

God, that game looks like ass. I think it might be time to retire 3D on the DS if they can't get results any more convincing than this.

The whole game looks like old gritty Sega CD cinematics. I hope they do some massive retouching of the game for the final version. I'll probably buy this just because I'm both a DS whore and RE whore and not because I'm expecting any significant gratification from the title.

Seems like some people want to dimiss the games soley based on the crappy blown-up magazine scans. I can almost garuntee that the game will look a lot better than those low quality Famitsu scans. Hopefully RE4 will get ported to PSP soon so they can shut up already.

Where the hell did this thread come from?!?!?

Kicky!

Didn't someone say that they would be banned if this rumor was true?

Never though RE envy would be an issue with people considering all the Capcom hate here.

Some new info:

The DS version will have full 3D graphics instead of pre-rendered background like in the original version; and the DS version supports the touch screen and voice recognition, you can attack the enemy with the dagger that is controlled by the stylus; certain puzzles must be solved with the stylus; and sometimes you must wipe out the blood spilled on the screen with the stylus; both Jill and Chris are confirmed as playable characters in the game.

However, when a flesh-eating foe is encountered the view switches to a first-person perspective and the player can use the stylus to attack the adversary in two different ways depending on which character they have chosen to play as: Jill slashes away with a knife, while beefy old Chris hammers in with his fists.

The touch-screen will also be utilised in other ways - like wiping blood away with a stroke of the stylus - and we're anticipating that it will play a large part in solving some of the game's new puzzles.

The microphone will be used for such things as mouth-to-mic resuscitation, while WiFi will also be taken advantage of, although there's no news yet of exactly how this will work.

:lol :lol :lol

Why to be a true celebration of the first RE1, PS assets included. :)

I'd also venture the theory it is not the best people working on that game and/or despite the anniversary excuse, this is a low-priority port which would explain the lack of real lighting on the characters.

"mouth-to-mic resuscitation"

what's that supposed to mean?
"He's not breathing! Place your mouth on the mic and breathe in to resuscitate him"
*place mouth*
*blow into mic in 3 bursts*
"Now push down on his chest!"
*Taps his chest twice with the stylus*
"You are Win!"
