Bioshock Infinite |OT| No Gods, Kings, or Irrational Games

So my first pants pickup in the game was 1 second reduction in shield charge delay and 2x shield charge rate. Going by what I have seen on IGN's section, theres gonna have to be something really rare to outdo these awesome pants.

Also how many infusion upgrades are there in the game?

I'm not going to be able to play this much at all for the next few days. Maybe that's a good thing, though, as this is an experience worth stretching out.

Anyone know if there's any way to buy the soundtrack without having bought the Collector's Edition? I just finished the game, absolutely loved it, and now I need that music.

Christ, I am so horrible at this game.

It's the first video game I've played in about a year-and-a-half, and I've never been particularly good at FPSes to begin with. I've died a bunch on medium difficulty and the game keeps reminding me that I can switch the difficulty at any time. It's kind of hilarious, actually.

But I think I'm starting to get the hang of it. Kind of. Sort of.

Use your vigors liberally.

I am basically NEVER over zealous about my response to a game. Even for things like The Witcher 2, which I really enjoyed, I maintained my excitement. "It's good," I would say.

I have to make a special exception for this though. While I still need to finish it, I think this is one of my favorites.

Finished the game in a single, 14 (or 16? Steam is being weird)-hour session.

wtf did I just play?

OK guys, here's some speculations about the twist/ending. i am currently around halfway through the game (i think?). Obviously don't tell me if I'm right or not, but here we go.

ok, so the thing that threw me off is the fact that the weird couple that bring you to the lighthouse keep saying stuff about 'participants'. when you get off the boat onto the lighthouse, if you look at the boathouse, you will see two boats that look exactly the same as the one you came in, except one is crashed. then when you see the couple again in columbia and they do the heads or tails thing, you can see the scoreboard has already been marked numerous times.

This all leads me to my deduction - what if the events of the game have already happened, numerous times? as in, if there is some sort of continuity loop of numerous booker clones being brought to columbia over and over again (this would explain the large number of boats and the scoreboard)? This obviously sounds collosally stupid, but the whole 'will the circle be unbroken' song leads me to believe that something of this sort is happening in the game. the quantum physics stuff is also peculiar. at one point i started thinking that booker is in some sort of psychological study to help him get rid of his ptsd... yeah. really interested to see how this all turns out

again, obviously don't tell me if i'm right or wrong, i'm just kinda throwing around some theories.

Try turning on combat data for a bit, it's more gamey but pretty satisfying to see numbers popping out of enemies Borderlands style.

This seemingly insignificant change has actually upped the enjoyment factor for me 10 fold. I think I like numbers.

I tried to go to bed earlier but got up and played some more, I think it's finally 'clicked' for me.

Had a long day at work yesterday, so I wasn't able to pick this up until late. Got about an hour and a half or so into it and I'm loving it so far. Only problem is that I've got 2 16 hour days today and tomorrow and won't be able to play much until Friday... even then not much :(

The game really couldn't have picked a worse time to come out for me.

Only thing I really dislike so far is that I can't manually save it...

Play it on hard, that's the only way the combat is good.

In what way is it better on hard? I'm genuinely asking because I'm probably going to restart, as I don't find "scarcity" to be an adequate fix for the games combat problems.

Scarcity doesn't create fun, its a limiting factor that creates tedium. I'll probably play on normal.

Took me 4 hours to get to Elizabeth. I don't think I'm going to be finishing anytime soon. Just trying to cover every square inch of this beautifully crafted world.
Yup. Took me almost two hours just to get to the raffle. I had to check out every nook, cranny, surface, view, person, etc.

Candy for eye, ear, and brain everywhere.

Anyone else getting a bug where they can't move or look around after using a sky-line? Wouldn't mind so much if the game didn't have ridiculously spaced out checkpoints. Was really shocked when I saw there was no way to manually save.

yeah, i just started playing last night and so far this is the only negative i have. can't believe there is no manual save. i loved that about the first bioshock (never played the second). still, this game has the best art direction and style of any game i have ever played. that may be a bit hyperbolic but damn if this game isn't pretty. and it does so in a gestalt (the whole is greater than the sum of the parts for the layman) manner since the textures are really lacking but man is it beautiful.

Enemies are a lot more aggressive on Hard I find. But that might just be because I switched to the Carbine instead of the Shotgun.

Problem is the vigours energy bar depletes too fast, may be because I'm still early and playing on Hard. But i get like 3-4 shots/ 1 or 2 traps a bar.

Played about five or six hours last night. Game is delightful and so well thought out.

Lots of imagination and polished execution on display.

Iv'e played for about 4 hours now, and I've got mixed feelings about it.

It's definately a fantastic game, but, so far at least, it doesn't really feal like a 'shock' game.

The levels are too linear, there doesn't seem to be many roaming enemies, I miss the hacking mini games, and having non enemy npcs who you can't interact with is quite jaring.

On the plus side, the graphics and art direction are gorgeous (playing on PC), the world is populated with lot's of interesting things, the combat is fun, the story engaging, and I like Elizabeth.

Overall, it feels like a hybrid between Bioshock and Uncharted. It's very well done, but I don't think that it's the direction I wanted the game to go in.

At this point at least, I think that SSII > Bioshock > Infinite.

This changes drastically once you get a few salt upgrades. Also, vigor upgrades reduce cast costs.

As has been said many times before, it might as well be a new IP. Just cause it doesn't have those things might make it a bad 'Shock' game, but it doesn't make it a bad game in and of itself. You'll have a much better time if you play the game that it is instead of comparing it constantly to previous games, which is what I did for a while. I came out the other side thinking this is one of the best games I've ever played.

Me too. I just
landed on the beach
. Bioshock 1 is one of my favorite games of all time and so far Infinite is destroying the hype in the best way possible.

Man, I felt like I gave it my all exploration wise and only ended up finding 60/80 voxophones.

Same here. Those last 20 must be really hidden because I combed the entire world with an almost obsessive diligence. Maybe it'll be easier the second time around, since my focus won't be so split with wanting to advance the storyline.

I go in thinking I'm going to have to be focused to notice and figure out what kind of 'twist' it might be or where it starts getting wierd.... They sure didn't fuck around with that did they? Evn from the first moments you know something is off. I think I just found the Gunsmith I was looking for and I have no idea where this is all leading. So Far it's been amazing

I dunno about you guys but now that I know the story I have no problem looking at a guide to help me find the rest of the voxophones to colour it all in a bit more. I think I found 64 on the first try. There's already a few guides out there

Play it on hard, that's the only way the combat is good.

...That's what I was told about Bioshock 1, when in reality the combat in that game is garbage no matter what difficulty you play that overrated game at.

So, real talk. Is this actually a good game, or is it more like Bioshock 1? You can't really trust reviewers with the hyped up games.

Ending question:

Did Elizabeth gain all of that insight on doors, Booker/Comstock and what not because of the effects from destroying the siphon? If not, why didn't see just reveal all of this the moment she met Booker?

It's probably been said before but (vigor spoiler)
the murder of crows effect is so satisfying.
It doesn't necessarily feel very powerful but I would use it for every single encounter if I had the salt for it.

Can someone tell me how to do skyhook executions? I can't get them to work.

When clinging onto your skyhook and you aim at the ground, you'll see a green circle with "dismount".

However if you target over an enemy you'll see like a yellow star target over the enemy, saying something, execute, I think, can't quite remember, then just press space, or whatever your jump key is to attack

When playing a new game, do you have to re-find all of the ones you've found in a previous game

Currently polling second in Australia's federal election (first in the Gold Coast), this feral may one day be your Bogan King.
One thing I will say is that I'm not sold on Elizabeth being anything special at all. She's totally inoffensive, nice to have around, implemented into both the combat and narrative well enough, but in none of these areas doing anything significantly beyond the norm of many other games. For me, anywho. Her teleporting around the environment, occasionally goofy (as in, unrealistic and silly) looking facial expressions, and pretty transparent "now I will talk about something related to the narrative while we wait for this elevator to move even if it has no relation to what we were just doing" scripted dialogue pulp doesn't leave much to the imagination.

I'd never chalk her up as a bad quality of the game at all. But I really don't think she's doing anything better than what Valve did with Alyx through Episode 1 and 2.

Yes. It enabled her to see through all the doors.

For me the real innovation is that they took Alyx and incorporated her into the combat loop without ruffling too many feathers.

It's the Mass Effect 1 elevator flashbacks getting to you

She's saved me a couple of times with a timely Health Kit during combat.

She's alright in my book.

True, and is great to not have to care about a stupid npc dying during all the game, but at the same time it doesn't really make sense narrative wise. Elizabeth is invisible to enemies, unless there is a script event of course.

The way I rationalize it, is that the people attacking you want to kill you but capture Elizabeth which is why they don't attack her/she doesn't need protecting. So far, that works narrative-wise, and I'm okay with not having to babysit her.

Can someone tell me how to do skyhook executions? I can't get them to work.

You have to hold the attack button when the skull appears over their head. (I assume you're talking about executions and not the sky-line strike as others have already pointed that out.)

I hate to ask this here because I've been told numerous times how to do it and forgotten, and it's completely off topic. But I've been looking around for absolutely ages now and still can't work out how to access the 'Who Posted' page. Can anyone help me?

they need to have very low health, then hold in melee attack. They're pretty useful late on, bit of invincibility because of the animation which allows you to recharge shields and if you have the health on melee kill Gear, it's just gravy.

Thank goodness Elizabeth's presence doesn't turn the game into one giant escort mission, which seems to be what some people want. That would have been an awful choice.

I wish I could see both my hands at all times like Bioshock 1 and 2. I find I often forget about using vigors or just forget what vigor I have active because the gun is always in my right hand and you only ever see your left when you "stretch" or use your powers.

the tactile feedback of infinite's combat is quite excellent and well ahead of bioshock 1 where it was comparatively mushy and rather unfun
