Bioshock Infinite - Review Thread [UP: IGN exclusive split PC/Console review up]

Wait, people expected Bio Infinite to be the savior of the FPS genre? The fuck was that whole bit about? I'm pretty sure everyone knew exactly the kind of shooter this was going to be since, you know they've been showing gameplay for the game since 2010. That and if you think FPSs are getting stale, you should get your heard out of your CoD hole and take a look at games like FC3, Arma, Red Orchestra...

God IGN reviews are about the level of writing and deconstructionism of high school newspaper film critics. Embarassing.

I am sorry but the fact they got an exclusive review already shows that they are biased. Pub aint going to give you an exclusive review just so you can downplay their game. Yeah the game might be excellent but this review does not support that statement.

Gaming journalism has hit an all time low.

Is this a good example of a game that was in development hell that turned out great?

Seems the PC version is the one to get anyway. Can't wait to play it.

Hit? Exclusive reviews have been around for ages. Used to be some magazines spent half their copy reminding you how incredible it was to be the first people to play game X.

There's no overreaction. People are just trying to gauge the quality of the game from the score. Pointless of course because of its exclusivity status. A review which should be able to tell you that, but it can't because it can't be trusted.

Even if the review wasn't exclusive, written for IGN and could be trusted for some reason - there'd be nothing in there to derive the game's quality from. It's nothing more than a lot of fancy words begging to be printed onto the cover.

I remember there being a bit of a fuss about the exclusive first review of Doom 3 back in 2004.

All I want to know is how the game holds up on PS3 vs 360. And maybe how well Move is implemented...
This. I mean, if I'm not going to be playing the PC version I want to get the best running console version. Move doesn't matter too much to me as I don't have one, but it'd be nice to hear how well it works. I could borrow one, or something if it made the experience worth it.

Has Levine tweeted about 1999 mode yet? Ign review is sorely lacking info on that front. We were promised so much more.

I wonder if this technique can back-fire? Will other reviewers knock off some point because they didn't get the exclusive.

It just seems like a bad idea.

Since this is the review thread i'll post it here too.

Gamestar Germany gave the game 90%.

for the record Bioshock 1 became 87% and Bioshock 2 85%

Ahhhhhh I think I will cave and pre-order the PC version. Now to decide if I want the TF2 hats or the far superior GMG deal.

I was thinking about this the other day and im sure it will, this is the first time many journalists complain about then, its inevitable that someone will try to capitalize on that.

Hmm I clicked on the link that said video review over at IGN, but all I got was a seven minute teaser trailer with the score that 2K gave themselves on the end.

Anyone else get this? Looks like Take Two is taking full advantage of the IGN review...

In spite of some game mechanical weaknesses and I therefore collapsed - 'Bioshock Infinite' is a masterful game in everything from aesthetics to the technique and all shades therebetween, but most importantly, it is a game that tries to convey something.

Man, those must be some really bad game mechanics.

I wonder if we'll see a single review where this game will not get a 9+. And 2 years later, we'll again find out that it actually did have quite a lot of flaws and problems. Wonder if any out the media outlets points out the problems I have with Bioshock, which, at its core, has slightly above average FPS mechanics (and that's 90% of the game).

Still remember hearing Gerstman on a Giant Bombcast stating 'You know what, Half-Life 2 actually has quite a lot of pacing problems!' - no shit, reviewers should KNOW this stuff at the time they review a game. It's fascinating that game journalists are so eager to ride the hypetrain when they - at the end of the day - get nothing for it.
