Bisexual Lighting.

For years now I've noticed this trend of anything that has a purple hue somewhere in the game poster to normally mean the product has, how can I put it.. a lower quality to it somewhere along the line and I don't think I was the only one to notice, going by a few posts on here I've seen on Gaf

Well I'll be damned, it was actually a thing.

Why these two things qualified a normally sub par product I don't know 🤷‍♂️

I didn't make up Bisexual Lighting :messenger_tears_of_joy:

I just came across it and thought it odd that most gaming things that have that hue somewhere in the poster has normally meant it to have some odd drama around it..

Two most recent~

It's a thing in the sense that the segments of social media that desperately want everything to be that way inclined will look at everything through that filter and see things that aren't there. As the wiki page you linked says, there are false positives everywhere.

I don't dispute that there may be people out there intentionally using this as a nod to those that know. But here's the thing: they wouldn't use it if it didn't give good visual results. Bad visuals aren't tolerated just because it sends a little nod to a subsection of a niche somewhere online.

The same people desperately looking for bisexual lighting and the attached meaning are the same people that will criticise the trope of English teachers overanalysing colour in books (blue curtains, yellow walls, etc) and attach meaning that isn't there.

This similar kind of thing happened with people claiming certain emojis represented certain political leanings and whatever, internet is a silly place

This is funny because bisexuality has become problematic in the last few years. Cause it literally means attracted to both sexes, but the whole trans-inclusivity made it so you can't be attracted to a sex, only a gender.

I really doubt they are doing it for that reason anymore

Humans use a lot of pattern recognition, but unfortunately people don't always have the self awareness to know their biases. Social media sorting people into like-minded groups makes this so much worse, especially Reddit where it's a popularity contest. People see posts and comments with lots of votes and assume they're truthful/correct.

Pattern recognition or not. You can't argue that some of the crappest games of last year, and ones with drama attached somehow have this hue in the poster somewhere :messenger_tears_of_joy:

And anyway, I have a purple Christmas tree every, damn, year..

Don't get me wrong, from what I've seen of DA:V and their devs I have no trouble believing they would do every little thing like this.

But that aside, what you're thinking of could just be confirmation bias. I imagine there are plenty of bad/backlashed games that didn't have it. You could probably name a few good ones that did.

Also, remember the blue and orange poster trend. It could just be something that passes by.

How do you discern intentional from coincidental?

That's the thing, you can't. Most people love Purple

I just found it strangely ironic that this random Wiki page came up on one of my feeds, coupled with all that's been going on with game devs, meltdowns, strange ideological stances in games, hiring practices, quite a few associated posts on Gaf in relation and complete failures across the board all seem to have a similar colour attached..

Purple.

It is a bit, odd.

I personally don't mind the colour but I prefer Red, honestly.

Sounds like some very dangerous photon energy levels. Perhaps some sort of alien energy beam designed to end human society. I suggest you do your own research.

Use of excessive purple in conjunction with unity-styled character design and futuristic hairstyles make me suspicious that my world view will be impacted.
