Black Desert Online Closed Beta Thread: Works on F2P? No, money down!

Well, it seems pretty weird that you need animation cancelling for Ranger on the tutorial wolves, or they would chunk you out.

It's so much more different compared to Wiz where the Wiz does one shot until like level 15.

Wiz is like one of the easiest classes to play thats why

But you can get a horse in-game, the pet is cash only. Also, don't you level up stamina? (not like I inted to go everywhere running but I have yet to use a horse in the beta).

l

Horses have tiers, the ones you are gona catch are tier 1-3. To able to get a t5 horse at release you are probably looking at 10 million in investment(or some god tier rng)

It has highest tier currently in the game for horses. Difference is huge to a normal horse.

Pets are nice and all but just having one is basically useless. The fast horse is far more impactfull in the game

Was going to main Witch until Ninja/Kunoichi but those 'Awakenings'... gotta try a Warrior before CBT2 ends to see if I like it. That GS form looks amazing.

Its just that the ranger gets his good stuff a little bit later, around lvl 15 your equipped with nice attacks to chain during your regular hits that do great dmg and knock back while your character vaults across the field.

Holy shit the popin of objects and characters and awful LOD in this game have completely put me off.

Running around the city earlier I honestly can't believe how anyone can be OK with this. Playing with everything maxed and high end mode enabled too and it's still this bad. Such a shame as I quite enjoy other aspects of it... I just can't look past these graphical issues.

Strange, I have no such problems, the worst I notice is npcs fading from the black template to the actual model.
What really bugs me tho is the transparency ordering problems for hair Im experiencing... I really hope I can find a fix for this.

10 million silver, right? I haven't tried so hard to get money and I have like 1 million silver at level 30.

So Tier 5 is highest at launch? Russia has Tier 6s and Korea has Tier 8s.

Yes you are correct in all of that.

A free tier 5 horse is huge, right now you are not working on your gear but once you are looking into getting +9, +10 etc you are gona blow through all you have like its bathroom paper

If you spend 10 million on a horse at the beggining of the game instead of gear, you are gona have a really hard time recouping the cost since investing in gear makes making money easier and less expensive.

It's like dark souls greatsword combat. fucking amazing

Of all games you compare this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z9bu5iAWBec to dark souls combat?

Im with you about the controller support. The controller support was the single reason I even bought this game. I must admit, just you said, the controller support is kind of a joke.

I had to put in mad amounts of time to get a good controller configuration that works really well.

But on the flip side, at least it HAS controller support. Some games dont have it at all, and thus I dont play them at all. Plus, with this game having move sets like fighting games, the controller is a REEEEEEALLY good fit for that.

Im just wishing it had proper analog support. The game treats the walking analog as buttons. There's no gradual speed build up as you move the analog further. It goes 0 to 100, real fucking quick.

But when it comes to MMOs with awesome controller support, aint none of them touching Elder Scrolls Online or Firefall.

Combat works good enought with a controller, other than targetting while moving and attacking.

The problem is the UI. It has basically no controller support, so you can only use a virtual cursor with a stick. It's really annoying

Thanks for the explanation. Man, didn't want to drop 50 bucks but you are really selling me on that pack lol

Another thing I hope it's get better although I'm not sure even with a B2P method is the community. I know it's a given in MMOs but holy shit, I had to close general chat when I saw some dudes making jokes about raping children. WTF is wrong with some people. I'm too used to the silent general chat of FF MMOs

Man, what an awesome end to the beta. Rid on a packed boat to a lighthouse, then climbed to the very top for some chatter before the end. I absolutely love experiences like this

awesome pics. Didn't know there was a boat to take. Man, I missed so much stuff in the beta lol

Just saw this on Reddit

"Questing pre-50 and pre-500 skillpoint cap is actually a bad thing, as combat skill points you gain count towards the 500 skill point cap. Meaning once you hit 500 skillpoints, the XP on getting new ones gets reduced significantly, regardless of if you obtained the skill points from questing or grinding, so its best to grind to the cap and then go back and do quests that reward combat skill points to push way over the soft cap with ease."

what does this even mean? You're "gimping" yourself doing the story quest to level up instead of just grind mobs?

This is for min/max players, something I would have paid attention to years ago but honestly you aren't really gimping yourself just leveling and questing. Those players will have a few more skill points then you at max level but its not game changing.

I see. I still find it weird that you get less points leveling the regular route for newcomers but I guess you're right it's probably more of a hardcore PvP only thing.

It's mainly due to the nature of the soft cap and no true level cap in the game. So if you grind to 50 and 500 skill then go back and do the quests that get you skill points you'll get those extra ones without grinding like mad over 500 is all.

Anyone complete all the CBT2 challenges?

I caught a Beltfish and posted a screenshot for the dumb title. They didn't list what the other unique title is but I managed to get from level 14 to level 20 by grinding combat quests and about an hour before the servers went down, I started on a mission to tame a wild horse.

With less than 15 minutes left, I found a wild horse and tried to tame it. There were a few other players in the area competing for the same horse. I wasted about 35 ropes and nearly had it on my last attempt but failed... No one else got it either. I even saw someone get to the point where you feed it the sugar but they still lost it. Much harder than it looks without knowing anything about how the mini games works. oh well.

I forgot about the Beltfish one, but I got the other one done yesterday.

This game looks amazing, I have had an MMO itch since my early WoW days.

GW2 couldn't scratch it, nor could ESO or Rift....

What is the general consensus on this one? Will there be plenty going for it?

I just played the beta, but I would say, if you want to play an inmersive MMO, more focused on being part of the world and craft, trade, some pvp, etc, you should like it. Game has a lot of diferent things to do and is more sandboxy than the usual MMO nowadays, it's more like the old MMOs.

Now, if you want an MMO that is reaching max level and then doing raids to get better gear to then do higher tier raids, then no. Game has no raid and not much gear variety.

Tbh I wish there was more gear available. I love seeing my character evolve with time but there's not much different (visible) equipment right now
and I don't want to pay for the Karlstein outfit lol

Where on reddit did you see this? I'm curious how many more skill points you get. I wouldn't normally do something like this, but I've read you can get to 50 super fast in this game through grinding. If the amount of extra skill points you get is decent enough I might do it.

Cool, seems like it is my kinda game then! Not really the raiding type although I do like gearing up as I lvl up but hopefully that will come in the future!

Cheers.

There are tons of people with beta access who haven't bought the game or aren't buying the game. There are people in world chat that admitted they just got a beta key so they can troll in the world chat

At most, you'll have a few more skills than everyone else at the same level if you grab skill point quests after you've reached the soft cap where they become increasingly harder to earn. It's for min/maxers, you don't need to follow it if you don't want to

Also, forgot to post yesterday, got some nice looking screenshots earlier in the day

So I quite enjoyed the beta and put a good chunk of time into the character creator too. I'm currently debating whether I want to buy in or not (something I wasn't considering before the beta)

One thing that concerns me are things like the grind some have already mentioned but I intend to only jump in sporadically and progress leisurely anyway. My main concern is the cash shop and the 3 currencies. Is it definitely just cosmetic stuff? I can't find a link anywhere to a webstore of all the junk in it; some people mentioned stat buffs in here, what are they like? Have you any specific examples?
Also, which of the currencies are obtainable in game without cash? I only found silver in game, the site gave you gold which seems to only buy pearls which is for the cash shop. Is gold strickly for this or did I just not see any other use for it?

Sorry for the 20 questions, chat in game was... not helpful... to be generous.

Yeah I know, I was just surprised how far some people went. One thing is the memes and "lol press ALT+F4" but some people went WAY fo far... well, whatever.

Btw, I remember something that I didnt understand. Saw lots of players carrying big bags on their backs (and moving slowly because of it). It was for increased storage? (i guess for going back to your house with whatever you got in a farm)?

I tend to be very bad at making money at MMOs so I gotta start learning guides to take profit on the first month when a lot of people will simply rush to cap for PvP.

I liked this preview, more focused about the life of a trader ingame

1) You can get to max level in about 15-20 hours if you focus on killing mobs rather than running around and doing quests. The quests are for other stuff outside of actually leveling.

2) It's cosmetic. They have small bonuses which are basically negligible. They won't make a lick of difference in PvP, and the things like Pets are only a convenience in PvE (not having to hit a button to loot).

3) The gold is a currency that applies to all games from the Publisher of BDO. The Pearls are the BDO-specific cash shop currency. Silver is the only in-game currency.

Thanks for the input. I was just getting confused trying to search this stuff myself.

  1. So is 50 the cap then? I was sure I saw it mentioned somewhere it was a soft cap and the xp requirements to level increased exponentially at that point. I take it you don't really need to go beyond that though? Or is that not true?
  2. I wasn't aware pets did anything until I got into this thread. Is auto-looting the only benefit to a pet? Honestly, they're so ugly I think that alone is reason to ignore them.
  3. That actually makes way more sense!
Here's everything that was in the cash shop over the weekend

Thanks for this. I only did a quick skim of it yesterday since I didn't have much time with it.

Lvl hard cap is 55 or 56 I think? and at 55 you get a quest for your awakening weapon.

All pets loot items and then have 1 special trait. Dogs bark when a a potentially PvP opponent is near (I guess when the dude have low karma), and Hawks spot elite enemies from afar.

The dog and cat were rather ugly but the Hawk looked cool

(although I think it's the slowest catching items due to its animation).

Dead

well not really...yet
So is it true there is pretty much no armor in the game aside from a few minor variations and the cash shop?

If so, that's enough to turn me off the game...would be a shame because the actual gameplay is great

There is no cap. 50 is the first soft cap and the grind starts there - also its where the exp bonus from pets + costumes becomes significant.
Theres a hardcap at 60 though.

Pets auto-loot for you, have a special ability and come with stacking bonus attributes once you get them tier 2, tier 3 etc. eg. +x% exp

Some posters are saying that you get reduced Skill Point EXP at level 50. Is that true?

I mean, I'd like to have more skill points. I don't mind doing things that get me there faster.

Yes, sadly, it's true. Even the cash shop there's like 3 outfits.

It's weird how few outfits (because the gear doesn't change the appearance) are in this game.

Anyone on here going to have a guild going when this launches? I've got the 96 hour head start can't wait to get into this, had fun with the beta but didnt want to play too much before launch.

I hope you've read up on guilds, regarding player limits and shit. They are tough to manage without some die hard players :)

The guild system actually sounds awesome... except for this:

Once a guild goes over 30 members, guild upkeep tax will be applied. This tax will be deducted every Monday at 12am.

Level 0 - 15 members - 0 upkeep costs
Level 1 - 30 members - 0 upkeep costs
Level 2 - 50 members - 100k silver
Level 3 - 75 members - 250k silver
Level 4 - 100 members - 500k silver

Source: https://www.reddit.com/r/blackdesertonline/comments/2r2ltf/guild_system_breakdown_read/

I did have around 100,000 silver by the end of beta at level 20 so maybe the fee will not be that bad in reality.

Yeah, this guild system will be very interesting with a GAF guild consisting of members with varying levels of play time.
