Is there any way to trial this game before I buy it? I'm very interested.

I don't know about any trail version, but you can get it on steam for just $10 if you don't feel like investing that much money into it. Sure you don't get the extra stuff from the other versions, but it's such a low entry cost that I had no issue paying $10 just to check it out since I was so interested in it.

Also, because of the low cost of buying it, I'll probably end up actually buying stuff in game because I'm enjoying it so much. I'm only like 6 hours into it though, so I am still wrapping my head around all there is in the game, but I really like it so far and would have no issue spending more money on the game.

Going through the free trial and I'm really enjoying this game, but it feels like there's so much just thrown at you. I looked up a few videos and did some testing to kind of figure out what's going on, but I still have a few questions.

- From a lot of quests, there are boxes with blue outlines that show up in the rewards, but not in my inventory afterwards. Are this stored elsewhere or do I just not get them since I'm playing the free trial?

- Should I be grinding contribution points to connect nodes as I go from place to place? Also, do I have to have all nodes connected to the very first area in order to connect and upgrade them?

- Should I focus on conversations and knowledge with NPC's? It seems like a really in-depth system, but doesn't seem to have an effect outside of that town from what I see.

Excellent. I'll check it out. The anti cheat thing all the steam reviews are talking about worries me a bit but oh well.

What class did you choose?

Yeah, the anti-cheat thing is dumb, but it doesn't sound impossible to get rid of it if you want to remove the game. I think it is kind of shitty of them to not put in some type of warning about it. If it causes people to not buy it then I totally understand that.

I ended up choosing a Sorceress for my first character. I was pretty undecided of which class I wanted, and the Sorceress seemed like a nice middle of the road character. It seems pretty easy to have alternate character if you want in the game, and you can share a lot of stuff between them, so I'll definitely be making more. Tamer was the other class I was strongly considering, so I may go with her next, but all the classes seem pretty cool. The combat is a ton of fun, and it seems pretty unique for each class.

Can I play the non-Steam version if I already have the Steam version?

I'd like to play with my wife but the xign anti-cheat program prevents us from playing the game at the same time. I'm using Aster multistea, one PC into 2 monitors for each account.

I suspect the issue is with Aster and xsign. You could give it a shot since there is a free trial for non steam version but I believe it uses the same anti cheat software anyway.

That reminds me, there's a free trial, right? I guess I'll try it at home later tonight.

But wait, my concern is not the possibility of playing Steam and non-steam BD at the same time, but can I use my Steam BD account in the non-Steam BD launcher?

Ah I see. Then no, sorry. The two accounts are different. Its stupid and many are telling them that pretty much daily. :\

Y- yeah... It is a bit like an addiction sometimes.

The golem''s have AoE attacks, so unless your out of range you get hit like mad ^^
And gratz, I also have a Sorc awakened (56), but switched to Dark Knight when that came, it is also awakened (57).

"Playing" on the EU servers also, well AFK ing for the daily boardgame + the daily Hunting + bossscolls ATM, got hooked on T.E.R.A. again for some reason =/

The golems have this weird tracking invisible ranged attack. By the time I took my Sorce to them I had fought them a few times before so I dodge the first two and then fly in and tank the last hit with Dark Flame. Funnily enough I struggled a lot more on my Maehwa but I suspect that may have been due to both having weaker armor and fighting the golems in the wrong place (they would gang up on me and I had to fight 3 at once... I didn't happen).

I turned my TRI into a DUO not long ago. :(

Thanks! I noticed the AoE after a couple of hits, but I think there was also big lag.

Anyways, I was under the impression that I would have to constantly switch back and forth between amulet and scythe but honestly, other than using Dream of Doom for recovering MP I don't see myself using anything but scythe in PvP, is that much better lol (basically more damage and range).

Only problem is switching between skills, I just can't do it with a controller, i don't have enough buttons lol I have C on the hotbar...

After I awakened on both Sorc/Dark Knight I theoretically could sell my main weapon, I NEVER switch back to non-awakeded mode when PVE'ing or if I need PvP (which I avoid), I stay in awakened mode permanently its so much better ;p

And Sorc in awakening = W + right mouseclick ;p

I don't think all classes benefit from switching back and forth. Last time I checked only Kunoichi and Maehwa are recommended for doing so because their switch and combos work nicely with their cooldowns and other effects.

Edit. For Sorc, if you don't want to chug pots then just Q to eat your shards. E will give you a buff and all your shards back so you can quickly eat them again. If you're desperate you can even use the skill that gives you 30 shards at the cost of a little HP.

Or take an MP+ on hit addon. Depending on skill add ons some might still be useful I think.

I'm playing with controller , is that Violation? Seems to be THE skill for Scythe Sorc lol

Gotta say, Sorc awakened is easier for a controller player, thanks to the wider range, I don't need to aim as much as with amulet Sorc.

I guess Ranger too? It's the one I gonna awake next (because it was my first char and it's already 50) although I'm gonna wait first to get more money.

My Ranger and Striker hasn't been awakened yet but logic says you're probably right. Ranger goes melee at awakening I think so if you want to hang back and poke/burst then you would switch back. That said I've also read that the bow is a bit weaker these days. Take that with salt though I'm not really into my ranger so I don't really follow the updates on it.

Damn i just put a 970 in upgrading from a 660 and its hardly any different, still hitches and pop in is atrocious. Pretty dissapointed as I upgraded for this game :(

Look at your CPU - I have a HUGE change just in overclocking the tiny bit that I can on my i5 2500 (non K).

1) The rewards are "absorbed" by your character. They are already placed in your inventory as currency. It's weird they reward you boxes but you never get to open any box.

2) You can always get more contribution regardless of what type of quest you're doing. Many of the quests in the game are repeatable after 24 hours, so it's not something like where you are forced to clear any area of quests.

You do not need to have all nodes connected, but the things you want to interact between needs to be connected. So if you want to transfer your goods from Velia to Heidel, you need to connect those two cities (or you'll pay a triple fee in transportation).
But say you have a worker, you'd like to work somewhere. That worker cannot work at that place if there are no nodes connected. So anywhere you want to invest in, requires contribution. No contribution points = no worker at that location.
Duodecil, made a informative video about starting with your empire from scratch. It gives you an insight into how one might go about it. He has 180 contribution points, but it should give you an idea how extensive the planning can be; https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q3dSwqrJXOc

3) A lot of people try to skip the conversation system. I don't really like it, but the idea is that by talking to the NPCs in specific ways if you have explored, that they will give you great discounts. Some people stand and talk to these NPCs for hours. Every time you have a "succesful" conversation with a NPC you get amity with that NPC. So you might play the game for like 7-10 times, and have 500 amity. Those 500 amity you then give to the NPC, plus 20% of the original items price, for a piece of valueable armor.
So it's an alternative to grinding. You save a lot of money.
So If I have 200 million gold, and I want to spend it all on lots of armors to try my luck at enchanting it, it might make sense for me to go to the Amity NPC and play the conversation game. Here is Morrolan explaining how you can get Yuria weapons more affordable with the NPC in Calpheon. Since this video was released Yurias have become more affordable, but the principle remains the same regardless of weapon or armor type: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wZIXKyc_8G4

Some people enjoy the amity game, and others hate it. It's an unusual system!

I'm still new to the game so I haven't come across it yet, but you can drift your horses? That's the dumbest and best thing ever.

Get ready for Pegasus: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XXDz22MLEHs

But Drift is one of the best skills. IA, Charge and Sprint are also highly valueable; https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RDawSKjpe6E < Mounted combat is also useful for some classes more than others.

Yeah for what I did read and also what I tried Ranger is not in a good state. I also like Ranged characters so her awakening being a sword doesn't sound very interesting.
But it's my main character (and spent some money in it lol) so I feel obliged to level her up.

Pop-in is an engine flaw, no matter how powerful your PC is there will be pop-in with this game. You can turn High end mode for a little help but it will still be there. Hitches are probably more CPU related.

I think they're tweaking the engine though.

The pop-in is a server and engine limitation. We'll have to see how it goes once they make improvements to the game during the "remaster" of the game as they prepare it for Xbox One and PS4.

Have you looked at this guide to see if anything can help you? https://www.reddit.com/r/blackdeser...ultimate_guide_for_fpsperformanceping_issues/

Disabling the "black spirit cohert" interface has given substantial improvements to some. Sometimes i've had luck with using /reloadui inside the game (it seems to clear some sort of UI cache that builds up over time).

I think thats why I didn't see ranger included when I was reading. I usually just go with what I like. Sometimes I jump into my pre-awakened weapon just to life steal or charge MP/stamina or activate those +20 AP vs monster buffs.

Going back after like one year on a lvl 33 character was a bad idea I guess.

Time to relearn everything from scratch!

Now to choose a character...

It comes back fairly quickly. I was overwhelmed at first but after a day or so it's like I never left.

I don't know if anyone answered you yet, but you cannot link a steam account to a BD account.

I played the trial some time ago, but I could not use that account in the Steam version of the game. I had to create a new account and all, a bit annoying to be honest.

In your task manager it should look like this:

QTntrYM.png

Coherent UI is a separate programs that take care of some third party additions like the black spirit board game. But as you can see, for some users, it eats up a lot of CPU, and so they disable it (forced quit).

https://www.reddit.com/r/blackdesertonline/comments/5lfq8i/what_the_heck_is_this/

Lots of people dont have any problems with it. It might help you, if you see that this takes up a lot of your CPU power:eek:)

Some suggestions:

Striker knows what he is about son.

Musa is so much fun. He has amazing mobility. He is the fastest class in the game. His AOEs are really good. He carves through things like butter. He (and Maewa) are very rewarding. They are easy to pick up and play. I've bare touched his awakening but it looks cool.

Not sure if this is going to be the next Pet I spend money on:

Or if I should wait for Gryphon or some of these cuties:

I love pets in this game. They have so much personality and character. I hope that in the future, they will rework the pet-system to work more like how horse breeding works. I think you should be able to capture critters (Tier 1) inside the game as a life skill, pokemon style. And then be able to breed them, train them, sell them, and raise them on farms. There is a lot of potential here. They are really fun, have a big animation set and a lot of attention to detail.
I love how they sit in your horse wagon, and on your mount, and the birds rest on your shoulder. It's not something I've seen in other games.

I think some of that ranger feedback is hyperbole. Rangers have always been in a great place being top tier overall. Even if they did get nerfed (haven't kept up with patch notes) I doubt it would make them any less powerful than other classes in daily use. Still the pot chugging monster as always though.

wut is this?

Water pet for an awakened wizard. Also your next waifu.

also any tips on getting contribution points?

Definitely the Calpheon dailies as mentioned above. There used to be a good video on YouTube for them that shows an efficient route that takes about 15mins. I'd also throw in doing rhutum /manshya dailies found at manshya forest node and the rhutum node managers.

Afk cooking/alchemy nonstop also helps a ton up till 265. I used to make intermediate cooking utensils to queue up 500 crafts at a time for about 100 handins (takes about 1.5-2hrs give or take). Refreshing whenever possible through remote connection helped make things go fast.

Well, I'm actually getting into the game this time around. While Tamer is, indeed, the only female character model I can stand to look at for more than fifteen minutes, the class is fun enough that I can't really complain - and at this point the combat is a thoroughly secondary (maybe even tertiary) reason for why I'm playing the game right now.

I was attracted to this game well before launch because of the promise of a truly living world - a game that would actually realize some of the great ambitions of MMO developers of ages past, back when we were trying to build virtual worlds rather than single-player video games that you happen to play alongside a bunch of other players. Well, there's still a whole lot of the latter in here thanks to all the instancing, but I'm happy that the game has actually realized at least some of its potential with the great variety of life skills. It's actually quite fun and relaxing to set up a chain of production and just push out piles and piles of product to put on market!

For once, I'm not pushed along by a one-note rote main questline that makes up the bulk of the game's entire content, but instead am taking my time and playing at my own pace, just figuring things out as I go. I love the feeling of just exploring an unknown world and finding my footing and a place to call home. I can already tell that that will at least somewhat fall by the wayside once I hit endgame, but for now I'm just going to enjoy the moment and slowly work my way towards it.

Also, may as well post that XB1x trailer here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XYP57phnIgQ

Seems to be using the remastered visuals, so this is kind of a preview of what the game's going to look at whenever that update hits. Seems like pop-in is at least somewhat reduced (it's still there, though), but also noteworthy (to my eyes, at least), the skin and hair shaders seem to have improved - no more weirdly glowing and ill-fitting materials and such. Fingers crossed...

Seems like I've picked a decent time to get into the game. I get the benefit of all these late updates while also getting the experience of a new player with fresh eyes. Heh, feelin' pretty good about how things are going right now. Hopefully I won't fall out of love with the game too quickly.

Glad you found a character you can enjoy. I think taking your time and playing at your own pace is the best approach. There is still so much of the game I don't know yet and exploring or setting up useful nodes and crafting batches is indeed oddly satisfying.

I'm playing this almost like harvest moon. Farming produce and shipping it off. Tending to some horses. The odd bit of fishing. Talking to NPCs for knowledge and gathering materials from the world. I haven't even tried horse racing and only had 1 misadventure at sea so far.
