Black Desert Online |OT| Come on in, the sand's fine [Mediah Update]

This is the second time that parts of my character has disappeared randomly. If I relog it is fine again. I wonder if it is the game telling me I'm grinding too hard.

Short clip of missing body parts I took a while ago for laughs.

oh... okay... I'll take 350k a day sure..

I haven't a clue how to increase it, but since most people are reporting getting 250k a day i must be doing something right by owned the entire town of velia (which I converted it all into storage lol)

I can only agree that Black Desert is a great game and I think many, many more pople need to be exposed to it. This is not a game I play anything but casually as playing the game for the grinding is impossible. But the game..
The game does many things different, and even MMO veterans will really, truly need to sit down and learn things. It's refreshing. It truly is a different type of experience compared to anything.

The game is not difficult, the game is very much a solo experience, but it's also majestic in exploration and it boosts an incredible combat system.

The story is meaningless, the translations are horrible, and the pop in is absolutely annoying. It's a never ending game without resolution. So you play for the experience. You're not enticed with a story, or reaching max level or gearing for pvp or dungeons.
Gear and level progression is never ending so you might as well not stress on it at all. There is not an accurate meta.
Instead you go out and kill and explore, and build your empire. The game is relaxing, and it is fun and if you can get over the idea of a game being wrapped around a sort of end game, you'll like this game a lot I think.
It is not like Revelations or Blade and Soul or Aion or TERA or even ArcheAge, but it is one of the most unique gaming experiences you can have.

Entry level is buying the game (its rather affordable) and spending the money in the cash shop for some pets (works as the game auto-loot) and a outfit for your main character. Wait with buying these until you've seddled on if you want to really play long term and what your main will be. It is worth spending the money on an outfit.

At least I know in the GAF Guild before the merge, we just made fun of every RP'er in chat and the lengths they go to through RPing.

We've seen people trying to get killed by wolves in olvia just for the RP moment.

So yes, this game is all about the experience and not really about the game itself. It's very unique in that aspect.

So I might pick the game up. Is it really only 10 euros, no subscription?

Yes. They do want you to spend money in the cash shop though. I'm sure plenty of people only pay $10 and get along just fine, but there are a lot of nice things in the cash shop.

There should be plenty of 7 day free trials out there, grab one and see if you like it.

Oh man, speaking of RPing. AZ and Soph were RPing yesterday!

So who else is waiting to flip silver keys for profit with magoria release? Hoping to make at least 25 silver net total. 6500 ready to gooooo

Seriously as much as I love the game all I've been doing lately is flipping, so hard to increase AP through accessories.

Interested in checking this out, the games meant to be fairly obtuse so I was wondering is there a recommended beginners/idiots guide?

AFAIK, dulfy's guides are very helpful. I know they really helped me in the beginning back at launch. Also, if you happen to join the GAF guild (which I highly recommend!) then there a lots of people able and willing to help you out with any questions, as well as play with.

http://dulfy.net/2016/08/05/black-desert-master-guide-list/

I believe they offer a free 7-day trial now days, if not a number of us have trial codes if you want to go that route first.

Sattori! We should go do some guild missions in Margoria, as well as setup a guild exploring event! We could all go out in one boat or a convoy of boats to check out the points of interest and get those event rewards.

Is there any alternate downloads or anything for this game? I can't find any torrents and even tho speedtest and fast say I'm getting 200 Mbps this game only downloads at around 2 kbps.

Thanks for the link, enjoying the game so far (via the free trial). But the lack of post character creator customisation bums me out, all the armour set looks the same and I dont think I could plonk down twenty five quid on a costume (most of which seem more T&A than BA for female characters). Visual progression is a big part of MMO's & CRPGS for me. Shame as I really like how they do a lot of other stuff, I'll see how I feel about it at the end of the week.

Thats the reason I loved Aion way back during P2P days, tons of gear sets to look forward to not just for stats but for the coveted looks. Blade and Soul also had tons of them but I just dont like how foreign the lore is. This game, the customization was great but as soon as you plop down thats where it stops unless you pay your way to variety with real money

On the cosmetics front... Costumes cost around 20m from market. This is actually extremely affordable and pretty easy to get. The problem is you need to virtually beg in channel chat for someone to put it up on market for you.

I like that Merv's Dye Palette lets you pretty much colour whatever you want how you want while it lasts.

There are also some costumes you can craft, not great ones but not too bad either. I grabbed Orwen's travelling clothes cause I think it looks casual and pretty good. Shame I need to use a coupon to get it to be wearable in cosmectic slots. I wish there were more craftable cosmetics.

I actually kind of like that the armor sets look quite similar. It is also because the armors themselves are similar when it comes to strength. You just need to upgrade them. Exception for boss armors. The different sets offer different stats which have different uses. I'm considering a full fortune set gemmed with fishing exp after hitting 5 in luck myself.

Also, as far as visual progression. For me, the awakening weapon did it. Not so much just having your new weapon but actually getting it, using it and seeing the results in combat was just an awesome feeling.

How do I acquire a ship to sail the Magoria sea? I remember I spent like 30 days building a boat last time and it ended up being the most pitiful looking, slow and overall useless raft. Buzzkill. Can I buy one on the market and if so, what can I expect the price to be?

Just started playing this for the first time. the combat is amazing! Wish I had tried this sooner.

Can I get an invite to the Gaf guild by any chance? My famity name is same as my Neogaf name and my character name is Hideo_Kazuma. Im on Calpheon #1 but what does Orwen mean in the name?

If you just started the game and you are on the NA region, then the server (calp/velia/ser/ect..) doesn't matter. You can freely change the server you are on (15 minute CD). Orwen was the server we were on before they merged all of NA.

If you are new to the game you probably want to be in the Olvia channels, you get a real nice EXP boost.

Olvia channels? How do I do that? NVM, switched to Olvia 1
Out of the 10$, 30$, and 60$ versions what are the advantages?

Honestly I don't like any of the packages mainly because they put them on sale for 1/2 off fairly regularly. If you can get the $50 pack 1/2 off that is your best bet. They've said they are planning something for their 1 year launch anniversary in March, so I am sure they'll do another sale then.

$10s just gets you the game.

If you were thinking of buying one now I'd either go with the $10 or the $50. The middle option isn't worth it IMO.

Any regular GAF scroll parties?

You could definitely get a group to do relic scrolls with. Personally I just solo the other one's since it goes so much quicker.

What is the best way to get a good grasp on what to do in this game lol? Still having a hard time figuring out what exactly is going on.

The combat alone is so much fun. But other than that and the usual MMO stuff, I have no idea what im doing. Im obviously checking out the Google Doc guide but is there any other resource or video that people would recommend a new comer check out?

I just need to get some memory fragments since I blasted through all of mine on a single Liverto upgrade.

Slowly returning to this game after leaving it a while back due to frustration over the luck intensive RNG needed for all high level content.

It's still bad, but not has dreadful as I once thought.

Tough to get a good grasp on the game since there is a lot of different things and some things aren't exactly straight forward. For the most part I'd just follow the blackspirit quests until you get to the town Velia. A lot of tutorial quests for things other than combat are in Velia. You need to look out for them though, you can easily miss them.

It would probably be easier for me to answer specific/vague questions you have about different things.

RNG is awful, I just try to take it slow and steady. Buy what I can and always have backups.

I know at one point there were weekend relic/pila/whatever the other one is called groups. I've been soloing mine just to save time so I don't know if they still do them. I seem to remember them being around reset time on Sunday.

If you are in the guild I'd just ask in guild chat or when you see Sattori on you can ask him.

Okay so, I'm relatively new to the game and one thing I wonder is how you're supposed to transition from Lv50 (which was easy to reach) and farming 51+ mobs without wanting to kill yourself upgrading gear.

This RNG gear upgrade process is incredibly frustrating and the number of blackstones I have is just pitifully low.
How does one bridge the gap?

Hubb

That is the big drawback to the Olvia channels. They made it so easy to level to 50 that it hurts brand new players.

Sadly there isn't an answer, I don't know how much gold they give new players. 13-20 Mil should be able to get you a yuria +15 weapon from the marketplace which you can get to pri easily. That should last through the easy 50+ mobs.

Make sure you do the dailies for boss scrolls, they are a good way to get blackstones through drops and hunter's seals.

Add me to party! Awakening, ancient relics, whatever! I'm like bleeding scrolls outta my ears sometimes. I want that first good boss drop feels.

I am 1 month in and in your shoes not long ago. I'll tell you what I know.

50 slows down buy it only gets slower. 55 to 56 is a real grind. If you're struggling now I think you should focus on other things for a bit.
Black Spirit has quest chain that'll eventually lead you to a nice stash of weapon and armor stones as well as a +7 bares.

Also, what area are you grinding? What equips? What class?

If you find a group grinding the same area ask to party up for group share exp.

Be sure to make the most of exp bonus stacking. Use the daily grind hour reward.

Use alts. Play up to Eden in the cave to get access to enhancing and use your fail stacks on each character for higher upgrades.

My path was 50, Mansha, Catfish, Cron and dailies to 52. At this point I had armor at about 7 each and was saving up cash for +15 weapon. Outside of elite/violent etc mobs. I wasn't really in danger of dying but killing was slow so grinding was slow.
53, 54 and 55 were a combination of Helms, Elric Shrine and Wandering Rogues. Mostly Elric Shrine solo. 56 was a 15 hour Olvia exp bundled group Susan's Garrison grind. It took about 3 days of doing that grind on and off. The hard part was finding a group with good rotation and no pvpers to come in and make things hell.

I'm at 56 and feel gated by gear. I only just broke 100 in both AP and DP. Things are starting to attack in greater numbers and knockbacks/stuns seem more frequent so I plan to upgrade gear to make farming more efficient first.

Truth be told... I simply stopped grinding and have been doing pretty much exclusively life skills for the past few days. My concerns weren't really due to a slow grinding speed but rather from the fact that after hitting 50 I decided to branch out and just explore a bit; I ended up near Altinova and saw a spot that was for 51-53, I believe it was the Abandoned Iron Mine. I decided to kill a few mobs over there just because... and the kills were so slow.
Since the enemies are only a handful of levels higher than me (most were white)I figured it should have been reasonable that I could kill them much faster than I did. Started to feel like I really need to upgrade...
Maybe that's just a bad spot for me or something? I'm not experienced enough to know but the level made me think it should have been okay.

I'll still try to take the advice you gave me here, thanks!

All good. Some areas such as those mines are pretty tough. I can go there now on my 56 and kill mobs there fairly effectively but it isn't exactly quick either. I think they are just tankier than we're used to. Elric Shrine has mobs that are a lot easier to kill. Some of them hit quite hard but at the same time it is easier since they go down quicker there is less chance for them to hit you. It helps that these guys can also be tripped so if your combo doesn't kill them, find an attack that trips then circle for back attack and combo to kill.

Some areas can be pretty easy such as Helms Post. Lots of enemies that are grouped smaller so it is less dangerous. At the same time though they have a few very tough single enemies there that you need to run from because currently they are not worth fighting. I went back there a few days ago, this big metal guy was still purple. I killed it... But it wasn't easy and I had to use pots (my rule on whether I should grind the mob or not as maehwa). Similarly, Wandering Rogues has these giant guys that can knockback which breaks combos and sets you up to get hit more. :\

I pretty much feel there is a difficulty spike when going into Mediah. Probably more for the desert area which I haven't even touched yet. Hexe near Keplan is also a pretty good grind at 50s. Loot there is not bad either I plan to invest in the node and take alts there at a later time.

Edit.
Everyone new in the guild. Ask Snow for food hand outs. Eat to level up strength (max HP) and get temporary buffs at the same time! :D

Hey Gaf,

So it has been great being in Gaf and playing BDO in general. I am scaling back on my play time due to RL priorities I need to tend to. With having new blood in the guild I think it is fair if I pass GM to one of the current active members since my time and energy must be focus else where.

I will talk to you all more when I get home. I wish you all the best.

Peace all.

Satt

Edit: Ok after reading some pm. Lol no I don't hate anyone. No its not because of this or that. I feel like we all made Gaf in a better spot when we all worked together when I took over as GM. GAF is richer, has more skill points, and have gathered a bunch of rag tag chill AF folks. So I pass the mantle on to the next sucker...err leader.

I'm dling the game right now to give the 7-days trial a go. Though I have no idea if I'm going to like the game - I'm more the theme park kinda guy, but I love action combat - is the GAF EU guild/community alive/still present and could I maybe get an invite later on?

I won't read any introductions/beginner's guides since this normally does more harm than good, imo.

So I played a little with Ranger. The game controls OK, but combat didn't feel great...Maybe I need to give it more time. I'm also a bit overwhelmed with how much shit is going on. I'm just sort of collecting anything I see and trying to do quests. I suspect combat could be cool if I worked it out, but for example...

In the tutorial, I had to do some combo on a training dummy: F (for some kick attack) -> A+ LMB (strafe/hop shot).

It took me like 8 tries to get it to work. I don't know if's just clunky or what, but it made me worry that if I DID get into the game, I'd be gimped because I can't memorize and activate combos to maximize DPS or whatever.

It's not clunky, you just need to practice it.
That said, the game's combat is a lot better with a melee class (which is probably one reason there are so many of them). You should try one and see if that suits you better.

Decided to stick with Ranger because I love ranged classes. Hit level 17 and I think it's starting to make sense. Of course, there's a lot of other stuff that I don't get...Nodes, crafting, fishing, etc. But the combat is starting to click. I also like that I can just auto-run to quest objectives. Makes it easy to play while doing other things, ha.

The systems in BDO initially seem very, very complicated but take your time. Pick a goal and focus on that for a while (For the moment continue your levelling) and it eventually starts to make sense. It's a little weird but not that complicated.

OK - I'll work on leveling for the time being.

Assuming I decide to buy the game, is there any reason to buy anything but the $10 version?

The higher price versions have some ok bonuses, but you're probably better off taking the money would would have spent there and getting some Pearls to specifically buy what you want.

Also, the Ranger is only partially ranged. The awakening weapon is a sword that will get you into melee. The class that stays ranged the most would probably be wizard/witch, but even then you're getting into CQC sometimes.

Finished my free trial, warmed up the game a bit more, but honestly more because of the node and life skill stuff. The combat is fun, but feels too easy so far and I still feel TERA's combat has the edge on it. That said the Wizard's spells are up there with Dragon's Dogma in making you feel like a badass. I think I'll hold off on buying it until the anniversary in case it goes on sale, I'd prefer to wait a month and pick up the 50 option for 25 than grab the 10 version now
