Blacklight: Retribution Open Beta client is now live and can be downloaded.

Open Beta Client

The servers should on at 4 PM Pacific.

The Open Beta does not include Pando (P2P file sharing).

So glad they finally got rid of Pando. I'll check it out in a few days if it's still in Open Beta.

The lack of hype for this game is disturbing.

Because Tango Down was terrible. GfWL not included in that. Small maps. Terrible spawn placement. Framerate is up and down...

I played it a while ago in closed beta. I don't know.. it felt like a cheaper COD to me, but it could be a lot more polished now.

AC1 was a shit game, but its sequels are amazing. Terminator 2 is better than 1 (i'm not implying T1 is shit). People shouldn't write it off because of a mediocre first game.

I was in the closed Beta. I wanted to like this game, but this game's core mechanic makes me not like it. HRV is a game breaker for me, too much of it in the game.

Without HRV or a much more limited use of HRV it could be good. Right now people just use it before going around corners, it makes people play slower and not the other way around.

I can't be the only one getting Neotokyo vibes from this... Wouldn't be surprised if the art style was inspired from the mod.

Anyway, besides the great art style I'm finding the game pretty average so far. The game is very based on bunny hoping and rush and gun, and more often than not, those instant headshots feel out of place, I dunno...

Will give it a try, but yeah first one was pretty awful.

Edit: game is alright.. not sure how I feel about the prices on some of these items though. Stuff you want permanently is pretty pricey.

Haven't had the chance to try this one out yet, but wanted to bump anyway just in case others were curious. I'll be installing shortly and posting impressions.

I like this game a lot. The core shooting and moving mechanics feel very tight and very mouse keyboard focused. I don't quite get the whole leveling up and purchasing mechanics. Some stuff is permanent, and some is temporary?

Also, in almost every game I've played there's a dude about level 15 running around Commando perk style racking up kills with a sword. That shit is garbage. It also runs like crap on my system. There's super frustrating frame rate drops with the settings on high. My hardware's nothing special, a core 2 quad and a 4870, but it's still frustrating. Probably more my fault than the game's, though.

I can see myself playing this some more. My character's named is "Barfcontrol." Look me up.

Why is there no buzz for this game? First game burned people?

I've been playing some in last couple of days and really been enjoying the game. Visor thingy is really neat gameplay twist and fundamental shooting mechanics are solid. I also really like the neotokyo art style(first game looked generic as hell) and the game overall looks better than many AAA retail releases.

Some negatives tho:
- DX11 is not very well optimized(my 5770 does no do the job).
- Marketplace/monetization seems confusing at first, but after further examination it seems pretty ok. You definitely need to spend some money on this game if you are playing it on a long haul. Some of the equipment must be bought by real money(not really anything that makes you automatically better, just more options it seems).

Between this, Tribes and Hawken it seems like F2P is finally getting out of the ghetto.

I gotta say, the overall aesthetic of this game is quite nice. Fans of NEOTOKYO will certainly appreciate it. Gotta play more to really comment on the gameplay, though.

I'm bumping this now the game has been released.

I guess you haven't seen Blade Runner or Akira...

HRV is a game breaker for me, too much of it in the game.
How is HRV any different than a mini-map? Both tell me players locations. At least HRV is limited. If you hate HRV, you are going to hate FPS moving forward. I'd say most will have some form of HRV/X-Ray Vision/Wall Hack moving forward. Halo 4 already announced they will have it.

I hated how the items were "rented".
explain?
