Why would you want to deprive yourself of seeing one of the most beloved movies ever, anyway?
Lol no.
I liked 2049 and it certainly doesn't. Whoever is trying to push that is lying.
I hope this post isn't in reference to me, because I was pretty clear that it's a strong film but not an iconic work like the original.
Yikes
A lot of people have been saying that, and I don't find it hard to believe. The original didn't have much in the upstairs as it was. I'd actually find it harder to believe that this film could be even worse in that regard.
The most "iconic" aspect of the original is the world building and effects, yet the mundane and ultimately nothing plot and characters that had asked similar questions better in other films somehow continually gets glossed over. "Because best scifi film ever...because!".
Pretty sure this already happened...
If this thread turns into people shitting on Blade Runner I'm breaking stuff. I don't know what, but stuff is getting broken. Next thing we'll have people in here talking about the underratedness of the Star Wars prequels and how TFA sucked.

... Why?
I mean, I love the original Blade Runner, but it's not a perfect film. There's plenty for people to hypothetically criticize the film about.
It's one thing for people to just senselessly bash on the OG Blade Runner, but there's no reason to get mad at someone offering a logical and thought-out argument for why it never quite resonated with them as much as it did with others.
Rutger Hauer's acting alone puts it above pretty much all Sci-Fi films not named Alien/s. The rest of the film (pacing, acting, dialogue, score, effects, atmosphere, minimalism) is God-Tier.
I'm officially seeing the double feature tonight, in like 5 hours
Yes older movieHow is that a yikes?
Do you *not* want to see a cinematic masterpiece and spiritual founder/model of multiple genres?
Is it an older movie thing? I don't get it.
Yes older movie
Not a fan of feeling like I'm forced to watch a 80s movie to enjoy this one
Double Toasted's review spoils what sounds like a pretty big plot point right off the bat, for fucks sake.

The average film-goer in 2017, everyone.
I knew it.
I mean, I'm still gravely saddened by it.
But I knew it.
The movie looks better than films that have come out in 2017 and is literally timeless, same as Alien(s) or Terminator 1/2 - it feels like an alternate reality - not an old movie. You're literally hurting yourself by not having seen it.
I have a friend who legit refuses to watch any movies made before 1992.
People suck.
The kid'll be on his phone for the whole movie and then complain that it was slow and boring. Let it go. He's not worth it.
Christ. I still watch movies from the silent era. Recently got Metropolis on Blu-ray. It's a hard watch, sure. But since when has art only ever been easy?I have a friend who legit refuses to watch any movies made before 1992.

For my most important paper in college, I wrote about dystopian films. It was a blast. Covered Metropolis, Fahrenheit 451, Blade Runner, and Children of Men.

This movie made NO SENSE to me at all. First off, why is there Atari logos everywhere if it's 2049? Atari died like back in 1982, duh. Second, why are all the robot people so sappy and emotional while all the normal people are monotone and shit. Shouldn't it be the other way around? I haven't seen the first one but I was told this was a reboot of that but nothing made any sense in this! If the robot people have super strength and can break walls, how can they get killed from one shot from a pistol? Why is this so looooooooong, there's all these shots of people just staring at pictures and eyes and walls like oh my god I was bored out my mind watching this. My friend Alex Trimboli told me Batista was supposed to kick ass in this but he can barely put up a fight against Ryan Gosling? This took me completely out of it, Batista could totally whoop Ryan Gosling's bitch ass irl.
This movie was dull as shit and I regret ever renting this on Amazon Prime. 2/10 stars, only giving this a 2 because of my boy jared leto

One of my favorite forum movie criticisms is "here's how I'd win in a fight like that."lttp: Blade Runner 2049

i watched blade runner final cut again last night cause i'm seeing 2049 tomorrow night and it's as good as i remember
i still get a little uncomfortable with the rapey scene where deckard is trying to help rachael and he blocks her leaving his apartment and tells her to tell him to kiss her and she's conflicted, not knowing what to do because she just learned that she's a replicant when she thought she was a human all along
You joke, but we all know THAT guy.
Who's joking? That's word-for-word what Subpar Spatula will post in 6 months

Technically Atari still lives. They have 32 years to come back and dominate.

I paid close attention to that scene on my rewatch last, as I've seen some posts here and elsewhere that argue that it's just a tone-deaf scene the misunderstands consent.
I'm not sure I totally buy that. I think there is something intentional going on in that scene. For one thing the sensual and romantic score of the scene takes a dark left turn as soon as Deckard approaches to close the door. The entire mood of the scene changes, it's very apparent to me, that everyone involved in the production knows the scene has just taken a dark turn.
I also noticed the way that Deckard talks about Rachel early in the film, he refers to her as "It", when he talks to Tyrell about her early on. To me, my reading of that scene has always been that, at that point in the film, Deckard still views her as not-human, as a thing. He wants her sexually, maybe romantically too, but he still doesn't see her as an equal.
It's a tough scene, and I totally get being bothered by it, and I fully respect the feelings of those that find that it ruins the film for them, but I do think there is thematic and artistic intent behind what's going on there.
