Blade Runner 2049 Review Thread

Isn't that considered the best one?

Just looked it up and it looks like they are indeed final cut.

I might have to drive down to the theater on my lunch break and buy tickets, lol

It's most folks' preferred version, mine included. Seeing it last night was a bit of a bucket list thing for me, it's one of my all-time favorite movies and I had never seen it in a theater. It sings on the cinema screen, I really recommend making it out.

This film has burrowed into my brain, can't stop thinking about it. It was like being slapped in the face and kicked in the nuts really hard...but in a good way.

My friend has not seen the first movie. Is it necessary to see the first one beforehand? I say yes, but he wants more people's opinions.

I haven't seen the first one either....I was hoping to go in blind.

But now i am reading i need to see the first?

I mean the first is my co-favorite film ever (along with Aliens) ... probably my favorite ever. And I've seen a TON of movies.

Beyond my opinion, it's practically universally acclaimed as a groundbreaking work of art and pillar of the cyberpunk and noir genres.

You're doing yourself a huge disservice by not seeing it - regardless of whether or not there's a sequel.

Holy fuck

My local theatre just updated their schedule to include a DOUBLE FEATURE tonight only!!

TICKETS BOUGHT

CAN'T WAIT!!!!

Good luck! I felt completely drained after watching "only" 2049, I think I'd feel like I'd been through a war after almost 5 hours of this world.

Having seen both, I would highly recommend watching the original Blade Runner before going into this one. I mean, it’s a sequel.

I'm so fucking excited!!

I haven't been this excited for a movie since Batman v Superman. And my hunch is telling me that this movie is going to be better than that one.

Just back from seeing it. I enjoyed it. It's good not great - certainly not a masterpiece. The soundtrack was particularly disappointing to me. You will definitely need to see Blade Runner to fully enjoy this. That's as much as I'll say without spoiling it for anybody. Enjoy the ride when you go to see it.

I never saw the original Blade Runner in full. Should I see the original or the director's cut if I'm interested in seeing the sequel?

Edit: or the final cut?

Can't wait to see this, but think I may wait until Sunday. I'm one of those curmudgeons who dislikes a crowded theater. The less people in there, the better.

Everyone I know who has seen this has said it's incredible overall, but the soundtrack has come up a few times as being forgettable. But I guess anything was going to be disappointing in the wake of Vangelis' original classic.

Any are worth watching, but I'd say the final cut. Looks the best.

Twitter this week has been a special kind of hot take hell. Everyone coming out of the woodwork, tripping all over each other to announce to the world that they don't love Blade Runner.

It's like...

It's still a sequel, and from the sound of it, not a ”here are a few nostalgic callbacks from the old movie" kind of sequel either

Yup. Jurassic World, this ain't.

My pals are going to see 2049 tonight, tempted to go again but not sure I can stomach seeing the same 163 minute film twice in one day.

I don't know how, but I've never got around to seeing Blade Runner. Figured I should watch the original before watching the sequel.

There's a sale currently on Google Play for the original theatrical version. Should I go with that or spend more on the final cut? I've heard the theatrical version is really bad by comparison. I'm cheap as hell so I'd rather spend the $7 vs $20ish, but if the difference is night and day I might change my mind.

I don't think there's a bad version of Blade Runner, it's still a classic in every version, but the theatrical cut does have some questionable choices. I'd go for the Final Cut, but if the sale is make-or-break for you, go for the theatrical. You'll honestly be fine.

Why would you want to deprive yourself of seeing one of the most beloved movies ever, anyway?
