Bloodborne |OT++++| Now with Trusty Patches

I'm wondering (mostly through desperation) how co-op in chalice dungeons actually works? I've got to the third layer of the defiled chalice dungeon (Amygdala) without co-oping at all but I feel like I've hit a wall with him. I can get him down to 25% health fairly easily but then his reach and aggressiveness means I can't get a hit in with my Chikage's short reach.

So I rang the Beckoning Bell and waited for help but after 20 minutes, nothing... I know there's the "password" system to the chalice dungeons but I assumed that was just for friends to co-op. Can you not co-op in them at all with random people? I thought it might be because I'm fairly low level but I leveled up to 88 and still can't find anyone.

Anyone want to fill me in?

If I sent Arianna to Iosefka's, but killed them all before Rom, I miss out on both umbilical cords from them, right?

Ah man, I hope we get some announcement of an expansion soon. What does everyone want to see in it? What monster theme/place would ya'll like to see? Bloodborne's take on Frankenstein might be cool

Yep. Sorry mate.

Think of some of the key motifs in Bloodborne, and you might be able to figure out where it's going...

Currently grinding through the Chalice Dungeons for the platinum and man it is soul crushing. Kinda wish it was truly optional, that is to say, didn't have any trophies locked behind them. I doubt I would touch them otherwise.

Got the high level blood gem and the burial blade. Now to finish Ailing Loran, do Defiled, do Isz, then Ihyll. Damn my completionist compulsion.

Is the trophy so important, that you need to have it eventhough you don't enjoy playing the dungeons? I went through them as well, but I enjoyed the challenge they offered.

I still need to replay Ihyll at some point, as I beat the bosses with co-op help and I want to beat them on my own as well.

Well, it's literally the last thing I have to do, so it would be nice :V

To be clear, I do enjoy the challenge and the bosses themselves. What I don't enjoy is how same-y everything feels, from the layouts and design to the repetitive process of clearing a layer.

Still in the early stages with the game, maybe only 15 hours into it and made it to the second tombstone (whatever they're called). Is there a way to fast travel to anywhere besides the main hub?

Nope. Fast traveling is only done to and from Hunter's Dream. It's one of the game's biggest flaws.

I think the dungeons get better after the first Pthumeru and Hintertomb ones. Isz in particular offered a welcome change with its celestial theme, and its layout was a bit different from previous ones as well.

I played two or three root chalices on top of the mandatory ones to see how they are, and to get gear and items that can only be found in them.

I hope to never see a fucking Chalice Dungeon again, fuck those things. And what's with the trophy boss being easy ? That fucking flaming dog was harder than her, plus a few others that proceeded her. Guess that Yharnam Stone is useless at the moment ?

Well, I guess I'm not killing Mergo's Wet Nurse any time soon because I want to play this DLC before NG+
and keep the hunter's dream a safe place until I have finished everything that I can

That fucking dog in Defiled Chalice is going to make sure I'm stuck for at least a month anyway :(

Damn, I just realized that both the initial save file and the NG+ one are post-Mergo. I may have to play the game through again, if I wish to
have Gehrman still around the dream house.

The game is short though so starting a new character isn't that bad. I am usually done with everything in the game around 8 hours and that is with helping other people against bosses to get echoes for leveling up.

Super excited for this DLC. Hopefully we will get bunch of Arcane and Bloodtinge stuff.

Our Recommendation for Beginners

bloodborne_large_art-1152x720
If this is your first time playing a game by From Software, or just have absolutely no clue what to choose, here's our recommendation:

Origin: Lone Survivor

Lone Survivor is well-balanced in the most important stats and comes equipped with a large health pool.

Stats: Skill, Vitality, and Endurance

These three stats are very dependable. Skill bonus weapons tend to be quicker, which is favorable with Bloodborne's fast-paced gameplay. Vitality will help keep you alive, and a few points in Endurance will ensure you don't run out of energy during intense confrontations.

Related: A Guide to Our Suggested Starting Build

Melee Weapon: Threaded Cane

While the Saw Cleaver has a more preferable pattern, the Threaded Cane is the only starting weapon with a decent Skill bonus rating. Try it out, and buy the Saw Spear a few hours in if you end up disliking it.

Ranged Weapon: Hunter Blunderbuss

The Hunter Blunderbuss is easier to land stuns with than the Hunter Pistol, and ultimately that's the most important role of firearms.
I should just put points into those 3 stats right? I'll watch the video in the OP when I get home for more info.

The thing is, I want to play the DLC with a character that has cleared all the optional content, and is at a certain level. That will most likely take more than eight hours.

That's a good guide, which I also used on my initial playthrough. I did put some points into strength as well, put not that many.

Here's their guide for "DMC build":

Well I end up around lvl80 with every boss (besides chalice) dead around 8 hours. No chalice dungeons done though so if you want to go through them also then it will take more.

Huh. Thats seems very quick. I might do that instead of going to second NG+. I wonder though, if it's better to start over from the beginning when the expansion hits, if it adds something to the main game.

I really need to platinum BB, I just got sick of the chalice dungeons. They're incredibly boring...

Are there still a lot of people playing? I was tempted to go back and help people out on hard bosses.

Well after you know where everything you need is you can just run through every area and ignore almost all enemies. My newest character has +8 Reiterpallasch with SoY defeated and if I remember correctly the clock was around 3 or 4 hours. The game really isn't that long unless you get stuck or start exploring.

Considering the game has different moonphases and they change stuff little bit I would assume that they might include some new stuff in the main game. Probably new NPC or something like that.

I will start new character mostly because it has been a while since I last played so might be little rusty haha.

It might be interesting to start anew, and see how the beginning feels now. I guess I'll do it at some point.

As I close the book on my playthrough (and get prepared for the DLC!), I have one remaining loose thread that's been bothering me from the beginning of the game.

Is there a list of bosses that can be parried? Attacking the head until they stagger doesn't count. I spent way too much time in the early game trying to parry every boss, some with success (Father G, BSB) but most with failure.

Now that we have DLC should I re roll a new character or would it be safe to tackle this with either my NG+ skill/bloodtinge character or my NG++ Skill character?

God dammit I think my main character is post Mergo New Game+ as well. Hopefully it'll work even if you're in that state.

NG+ isn't that big of a difference in difficulty from NG so I suggest sticking with skill/Bloodtinge. If I remember correctly that character is BL 120 right?

I just saw the trailer, I am freaking out. That art looks amazing. Also, we are getting WAY MORE NEW WEAPONS THAN I WOULD HAVE THOUGHT! That crazy spinny axe is getting me hot....

Yeah she's something in that range, I pretty much took the game out after I Platinumed it to wait for the DLC, NG++ character is in the 150's.

I finally got a PS4 and Bloodborne, so I can finally subscribe to the official thread. \o/ (or is that \o_ )

So far, I think I've done everything in Yharnam up to fighting either of the first bosses, I've just been getting used to the controls and stocking up on blood vials. It's still a challenge to remember that triangle is healing, I've wasted so many vials on trying to "two hand" my weapon, i.e. transform it, but I'm sure that will come as natural soon enough. The dash/roll situation also takes some getting used to, but I like that added level of choice in your movement.

As a Souls vet, I've found parrying with the gun to be really quite easy but very satisfying. The first 3 enemies I tried parrying I got it immediately, it wasn't until I faced one of the bigger enemies I had problems. I notice that it's more about parrying enemies early in their animation, where as in Dark Souls it's more a last minute thing.

So far, loving it - taking it slow, and terrified to face my first boss and lose thousands of Souls, since I don't really want to level up for a while (Waste of Skin of course!)

Man, that DLC. I want it injected into my eyeballs now. I want to know everything about the new weapons. Is the bow a main hand/transforming weapon? What's the pizzacutter's normal form? Is the shield part of a S&S combo weapon or a standalone offhand, and if the former, what's its transformation? And so on...

I think it's been adviced elsewhere, but my recommendation is to finish the game and go through NG+, completing the remaining chalices as you do so, while starting a new character with a style completely different to your original one. Honestly, you'll bore to death if you don't do anything else for the next 2.5 months. I know, there's always other games, but who wants to play them? :D

Hey Tiz! How are you so late to the party, you just got a PS4? Anyway, yeah, I would focus on these three, Skill is used by virtually all weapons in the game.

Hey there and welcome! Also you win this thread because of the bolded. :D

^ Thanks!

How is it possible I got Father Gascoigne down to less than 10% HP the first time, then every time since can't get him past 60% damn! I'm trying too many parries I think, I am trying to parry anything and often it ends up being the move where he scrapes his weapon the ground sending you flying in the air, so he recovers from the parry stagger before you get up.

Grrrr, I got this!

You might want to get some molotovs for its third phase. Fur and burning oil make a hot combination, who'd have thought? :)

I have been using the Tonitrus with my character, that thing is so insanely powerful (as long as you remember to buff it with L1) it's hard to use anything else.

The only problem with it is the moveset, which makes it difficult to hit that fucking dog in the defiled chalice. It's also poor in PVP because of that, but PVP isn't my thing anyway.

Is there anything else a Strength+Arcane focused build can do? I'll probably have to go through with a 2nd character to try out more things but I'll explore all my options with the 1st character's build.

Hawkian

The Cryptarch's Bane
Finally beat Ebrietas the way I wanted to, threaded cane with no bolt or fire paper, no attacking her from behind. No idea why I got it in my head I had to do this but it took long enough, lol.

I just slaughtered Micolash... how close to ending this hunt am I if I just want to finish as soon as possible?

Ebrietas was definitely second hardest for me so far... oddly enough, after the goddamn Chikage hunter from Eileen's dealy. That dude pissed me off sooo much.

Strength + Arcane? How 'bout the Logarius Wheel? Takes some practice, but it's powerful. You can also try packing Ludwig's HB/Kirkhammer, since all 3 scale with Arcane and Strength. Rosmarinus scales with just Arcane, but I think it's pretty neat.

Just started this yesterday to take a wee break from MGSV and... wow, I lost 3 hours. Absolutely superb. Not far in (uncovered the first shortcut) but I got the same old 'Souls' feeling of terrifying trepidation and insatiable curiosity. I played the old games without shields for the most part, so the combat system really suits my playstyle. Haven't got the hang of its nuisances (weapon transformations, gun parry etc.) but I can see how it works.

Too early to call but this may be the best 'Souls-like' yet.

Good job on beating Ebrietas. Once you learn how to bait the big attacks for punishment and avoid that annoying charge and her magic, you can get into a good rhythm.

If you press on with the nightmare, you'll reach a "point of no return" soon enough.
If you want to go around and finish up stuff or save your build for DLC then I suggest holding off, or at least making a back up cloud save.

Uhhh, too late I guess. Credits.

I'm certain I didn't get the "good" or "best" ending, I definitely missed some things and I know I have key items in my inventory that didn't come into play. But that's cool. I'll definitely play through NG+ and use guides and such, somewhere down the line.

Absolute masterpiece. Certainly, in my opinion the best product From Software has created. While each "Bloodsouls" game has its strengths and weaknesses, Bloodborne really feels like the strongest overall package, and I don't even think it's that close. Just a massively realized vision from start to finish, no filler I can think of, just filled to the brim with memorable moments, characters, and bosses.

Here's that Ebrietas kill, almost went very differently at the last second actually, hah.

edit: Got G. on my second try- but I'm think that, just like Gwyn, he was ridiculously suited to my playstyle. I think I visceraled 5 or 6 times, lol. Seemed like he'd be tough otherwise.

Guys.

I've been taking a blind approach to TOH. What's this I hear about having to be at a certain point in the story to access it? All of my saves are in the endgame, post wet nurse. Do I need to go into NG+ for this?
