Bloodborne Reviews Thread

As a former mage only...I'm terrified. Does anything replace magic? lol

I turtled my way through both dark souls. During first boss fight I kept hitting the block button expecting to block and got demolished. Took me about 3 hours to get use to it. 6 tries to finally beat the cleric beast.

I would expect there will be more exclusives.

Yeah, Yoshida and the rest of Sony seem to be in love with it

My review after 6-7 hours: best "souls" game ever. And I love souls games.

If it stays at this level all the way through this game will enter my top 3 GOAT list.

I get the feeling reviews are being done largely by people who were already fans of the souls games. Might explain the lack of dissent on a style of game that tends to be divisive.

Hmmm, looks like Dark Souls will be dethroned

Don't believe Dark Souls ever claimed the throne. It was the only heir to the throne and would take it should the King pass, as the King's bastard could not rightfully lay claim to it. However, much to Dark Souls' dismay, the King stubbornly refused to pass and his subjects continued to love him. Days ago, the King had another child and passed down the crown to him instead, greatly angering Dark Souls.

IGN, Eurogamer and USgamer haven't issued their final reviews yet either. Although it seems like the USgamer review will hit tomorrow.

I too wonder what the hold up is, at least for IGN.
The reviewer said in his preview that on Monday afternoon he was already at 40+ hours of playtime...

Not that I expect one or 3 reviews to change anything (or give much importance to them, I already have the game and liking it a lot so far), but I admit I am curious to see the final review, as he seemed to be really enthralled by the game.

Ok, so I had Demon's Souls (even imported from the US as it took a while to come out here in the UK) and only played for like half an hour, gave up. Had no interest in Dark Souls or DS2 but the reception to this is very hard to ignore. Might have to give it a go...

As someone who found both Dark Souls games to be dreadfully boring, I'm having a great time with Bloodborne.

I think VanOrd's review for GameSpot is really well done, but I really disagree with him about the game being easier than Dark and Demon's. Dude must have played the other Souls games with a dex/dagger build or something. Coming from heavy armor and 100% block shields... this game made me its bitch for the first 10 hours or so. Hands down the most difficult game in the series for me.

also possibly the BEST ONE OMG

Agree with this 100%. Maybe it's the art style but I find it much more interesting. I want to explore unlike Dark Souls.

Funny to see where everyone stands. While I am loving Bloodborne, I feel less inclined to explore due to the fact I do not feel like there are many rewards waiting for me. In Dark Souls there is always a new weapon or ring or ember, something of value everywhere.

Do explore its worth it and you'd be surprised at just how useful the stuff you find will be.

This is beautiful.

I am still exploring every nook and cranny. What I meant is the satisfaction for exploring has not been as high due to me not finding much. I am still very early in the game so that could very much change. On a side note, those hunters are tearing me up.

This had been my biggest worry from impressions I've read, as it was one of Dark Souls' most addictive gameplay element.

Beginning my playthrough in a few hours, can't wait!

I'm terrified of exploring. If I turn this corner, will I die and lose the last 30 minutes of progress? That goes through my head.

Eurogamer, Edge and IGN are taking their sweet time.

Probably making sure they finish the game and get some good time in with PvP and Chalice Dungeons before they post.

Finally played 4 hours of this amazing game myself. Believe the hype, believe the reviews. This game even destroys my high expectations.

I can actually see them holding out for multiplayer and the Chalice Dungeons. One of the few times I get the "review in process" approach. Same with Destiny and GTA5 in a smaller scale.

I like looking at the user reviews that give the game a 0. In most cases (well, three I've looked at) when you click their name you can see all Nintendo games get a 10 and everything else (TLoU, Bloodborne etc) get a zero. Quite funny when one person said TLoU was a reskinned Uncharted there for a zero and Bloodborne is just "another Souls game" and gets a zero. Yet it's ok to give Hyrule Warriors a 10 because it's the best beat 'em up out there. :lol

Entertainment at its best.

this thread has the most mentioning of metacritic user reviews I've seen in any thread ... its user reviews guys no one cares ... and overall its at 9 those things even out with enough ppl anyway :)

And i know most of it is about how absurd they are but thats true of any game ... look for the 0s and theyre almost all filled with idiotic comments.

EDIT volvo give diretide :)

This one is my favorite.

I'm sort of surprised so many of them have been Nintendo fans. I expected more Xbox fans to be posting the 0/10 reviews for whatever reason. In any case, it does happen with all exclusives. Sort of surprised Bloodborne is holding on to such a high score.

I was wondered since GAF is full of (mostly) more mature and advanced in a way of thinking in comparison to other forum sites that how come Gaf has never done a hivemind review, like our own Metacritic?

Well, considering that their console of choice is doing terribly worldwide, that could be the reason.

Yeah the Chalice Dungeons...are something else. New areas, new enemies, new items.....jesus christ this game. Like, I can see the longevity in seeding perfect dungeons with insane rooms.
