I caved and watched the stream. Hot damn, this is Souls on steroids. The environments, the ambience, the enemies, the weapons, Laaaawd I want my copy so bad.

EDIT: Stream back up. Seems he has to reload every 50 mintues.

Look at the picture below. Do you see "attribute bonus"? The higher rank of this (S, A, B, C, D, E), the more damage the weapon will do. So if you use a weapon with A on strength attribute bonus, you should spend points on strength in order to increase the max damage of your weapon.

The Kirkhammer below has a STR-C-modifier, which is okay at best. It doesn't benefit from the str-attribute that much, but even the modifier can be increased as you start upgrading your weapons.

This is why games like this should have paper manuals so you have something on hand for quick explanation. Getting rid of them is not such a good idea. Someone who's never played a soul's game (me) could use some tips on how to play.

#manuals.

I am actually having reservations about this now after learning about how Insight is handled.

Insight is the exact same mechanic as Humanity. You use it for when you need help. If you don't beat it, then you have to use more of it. The only difference is that if you're REALLY good and you don't ever die, you only need to use one Humanity. In which case, why the hell do you need to summon help in the first place?

in regards to class, how open ended is it? can each character use each and every item/weapon/armor in the game? I need to know how to level my character.

Exactly that. There aren't "Classes" per se, rather your "Class" is purely what equipment you're using and how you've leveled your stats.

Do we know yet if there are multiple versions/skins of each weapon type? E.g., is there just the one type of saw cleaver (that we can upgrade on a variety of paths), or will we find more saw cleavers that looks different and have different attributes?

His Oddworld OT was pretty nice. Looking forward to it.

LOL at
the gatling guy
.
Yeah I had to go through his thread-collection as well. I saw the Oddworld OT and was quite impressed so I'm positive he'll do a great job with Bloodborne!

So just to reiterate in regards to the souls gained from killing enemies, there is zero way to bank them? if I want a weapon that is 3K I have to have that on my physical self first? then go back and purchase? risk loosing it all every time? crazy.....

and I'm not too good at RPGs and all the elements to character upgrading- is there any way to break a character in this?

Yeah, you have to have in in your physical self. You could also grind the early enemies to get easy blood echoes and buy your weapon that way.

Breaking characters is too early to tell. Things like that tend to happen a few months after release.

Yes, but enemies further in give more blood, so as you level up 3k will not be that hard to accumulate. In, fact, there are probably enemies that drop that many further in the game.

EDIT: He got banned...

there is a saw spear which looks similar to the saw blade and transforms the same, but has a different move set.
not sure about anything else.

Yup. Its the penalty for dying twice in a row. Thats why as soon as you get a big amount, you either take the risk and continue forward or go back and spend the stuff.

Break a character?

You can't bank them. You should spend them on leveling up your character (did you find the level up woman?) or on items/equipment.

If you die and lost a good amount of currency, make sure to get back to the place you died before you die again to get the lost currency back.

As a general principle, it jack-of-all-trades characters don't work well in Souls game, and I assume they won't work well in this one either. Any good build is going to involve sinking some points into Vitality (HPs), a chunk of points into Endurance (probably max out the stamina bar if this is like Souls), and then focus on one damage-dealing stat, just putting enough points elsewhere to be able to equip your weapon of choice.

Again, there may be some twists in this one, but that's how all the Souls games were.
