Bloomberg: iPad 3 in March with retina display, quad core chip

lol. I've never understood the "lines" thing. It's rarely happened to me, and a quick wipe with the smart cover and it's gone.

My smartcover is pretty discoloured and stained on both sides and leaves pretty visible smear/smudge marks on the screen when I open it. I use and carry my iPad a lot, but always either with my hands or snugly inside a laptop bag. I don't smoke and don't bring the iPad places where people do. I don't drop the iPad in dirt or anything. I have used the iPad and thus the smart cover after eating, but I'm generally a good owner. I have the sort of powder/baby blue colour smart cover with the grey inside.

Reporting in and ready for the ipad 3. I hope my GF doesn't want one... these costs are adding up.

I'll see it occasionally but only if the screen is off or some app is using a mostly black screen.

not a big deal but it is the kind of improvement that I think would be funny to see happen

Maybe it's worse with the non-leather ones? I have roughly the same usage scenario you do, it goes to work with me every day, and I use it at lunch while eating everyday.

You'd prefer your Jot Pro stylus to an Apple designed one?

After buying and using the Jot Pro, I have realized that I really don't need one on a regular basis. It's in my bag if I do need it, but I'd always rather type notes, and I'm not an artist.

Also looks like Apple TVs are disappearing from shelves, update is imminent

http://www.google.com/reader/view/#search/apple tv/0

Can't wait to see what they come up with next month.

Something big related to Airplay I imagine, they are pushing that hard on iPad (especially big with the retina boost for iPad 3, will look great on a HDTV) and now the Mac. I suspect they are going 1080p at the very least finally.

Who wants to bet Apple TV 3 will be the "one more thing" at the iPad 3 event?

They wouldn't pull Apple TV's off the shelf for that, they only do that when a update is literally coming within mere weeks. The tv set isn't coming in March, no way.

Tim Cook has been talking a lot about the Apple TV (the box, not the actual tv set) so something has to be coming.

I don't even know what a new AppleTV would do that the current one doesn't already do. It's an iCloud accessing, AirPlay enabled iOS device that's always connected to my TV. It does that now!

Yeah, almost a stupid move with airplay on Mountain Lion, lol. Though TV has been decently successful (in its most recent iteration), am I wrong?

1080p! Maybe iTunes will get 1080p content for Apple TV 3 and iPad 3. At the very least Airplay mirroring from a MacBook would look better.

Same here with the red leather cover.

I think it depends on where they are in the development. I could see a scenario where they give the Apple TV a significant update and then also update a future launch of a full-size Apple TV at the same resolution as the new iPad 3 for a true 1:1 experience.

All I know is their top brass have got to be practicing like mad for this presentation.

Well, when Apple TV 2 came out it barely was given any attention by Apple. They rarely even acknowledged its existence. It wasn't till the last few months with iOS5 and Mountain Lion with the Airplay feature that Apple TV has become a lot more central to the Apple product line, and thus way more in need of better standards like 1080P

we'll see! I just wonder if it will really have a quad core at this point. I've heard conflicting reports.

The rumors have been either Quad A9 or Dual A15 from what I seen, both of which would be basically roughly similiar of a leap of processing power.

MacRumors has now been able to obtain one of these iPad 3 displays and examine it under a microscope in an effort to determine whether it is indeed an ultra-high resolution Retina display. Physically, the purported iPad 3 display is the same size as the current iPad 1 and iPad 2 display at 9.7" in diagonal, and looks quite similar to the naked eye.

However, when comparing the iPad 3 display to one from an iPad 2 under a microscope, the difference in resolutions becomes readily apparent, with the iPad 3 display's pixels appearing to be one-quarter the size of those on the iPad 2.

The level of insider info that gets out these days and the ability to dissect that information is getting absolutely nuts.

"We got one of the screens and threw that shit under a microscope to confirm the increased pixel density... booyah, Apple!"

It's madness! I love it! :lol

This is completely irrelevant and I'm sorry for wasting everyone's time but I just accidentally dragged giga's avatar around the window in Chrome and it looks so awesome.

I didn't have a doubt about the screen at this point, but confirmation is cool.

Can't wait for the complaints in the announcement thread. "We know all this already." :P

At 264 PPI, this would almost certainly be classified as Retina. Who's holding an iPad 1 foot away from their face during typical usage? On your lap or on a desk is the most common usage putting that bitch 1.5 to 2 feet away, putting it above the Retina display line fo' sho'.

RETINA BITCHES!

Apple: we decide what is Retina, shitheads.

It doesn't really matter. I just want to order it.

doubly so for me since I just sold my iPad 2 today.

I got the shakes!

But since it’s still such a new product, I still look forward to reveals and surprises and a little bit of showmanship. I hope there’s at least a couple pieces of new software or one hardware surprise that makes me go “whoa”.

Sheeeeit. How much did you get for the precious?

My iPad 2 has been received into the trade-in facility. Ironically the movies I traded into Amazon went to the exact same place, a lot of companies must utilize it.

Already feel lost without my iPad though. I have a netbook with Jolicloud eunning on it and it's nice, but I miss the iPad.

Oh well, $350 for my engraved iPad 2 16GB is a great price and will save me a bunch on the new one.
