Isn't Foxconn doing 24/7 shifts to get enough for March?I think I'm gonna take the hit and sell my iPad 2 after the announcement. I'm worried about the possibility of not having an iPad for a month if it ends up releasing late March or early April.
Sheeeeit. How much did you get for the precious?
macrumors said:MacRumors has now been able to obtain one of these iPad 3 displays and examine it under a microscope in an effort to determine whether it is indeed an ultra-high resolution Retina display. Physically, the purported iPad 3 display is the same size as the current iPad 1 and iPad 2 display at 9.7" in diagonal, and looks quite similar to the naked eye.
However, when comparing the iPad 3 display to one from an iPad 2 under a microscope, the difference in resolutions becomes readily apparent, with the iPad 3 display's pixels appearing to be one-quarter the size of those on the iPad 2.
I'll make a ban bet that it will come out with a retina display. There's just no way it won't.If for some reason godforbid the iPad 3 will come out without retina display I will be so disappointedI'm so hyped.

I'm not asking for Siri, but can we at least get the Weather, Recorder, Calculator - basic iphone apps. That would awesomeIt will probably also come with something new that already exists but with apple it will be introduced as something brand new. I also think they will have more than one version of Ipad one smaller for school, uni and cheaper version and one bigger.
Isn't it becasue Jobs didn't or couldn't get HD if it wasn't actually HDyou do know "retina display" is just a fancy term for a certain ppi, right? even if this really is a lesser ppi than the iphone, Apple will still call it "retina" and most people won't give a shit.

Well they are in production, so there is no last minute switching. Either macrumors.com is holding the production model or not.Its certainly easier to say "retina display" and people know that you are talking about a display with high ppi. It also flows a lot better, so of course what I mean is that I would be disappointed beyond belief if anything happened at last minute that would mean the iPad 3 does not have a screen with double the resolution.
Would you like everyone to refer to it as "increased pixels per inch" every time refer to it? We've gotten retina display to mean unrecognizable pixel points from an appropriate distance depending on screen size.you do know "retina display" is just a fancy term for a certain ppi, right? even if this really is a lesser ppi than the iphone, Apple will still call it "retina" and most people won't give a shit.
I'm not expecting 4G for a number of reasons. It's just not a good experience as is, because of the carriers mainly. 4G FaceTime would be amazing but I don't know if it's possible this year with the current data caps.

ya, until it means something more concrete we might as well just talk about resolution in terms of ppi
.The "retina display" semantics argument is the most boring thing you guys talk about over and over again.

I hope so, just have some doubt. I got burnt last year by iPhone 5 predictions.
This supposed display opens up some crazy possibilities. 1080p YouTube? Higher res Netflix?
I know it's not likely, but I hope we see some new software changes, like faster app switching, and maybe the legitimizing of the 4 finger swipes? Those two go hand in hand IMO. I'm sure we'll see something software related, just don't know how significant it will be.
Yes.Does the iPad 2 support 720p html5 videos on YouTube?
My gut feeling tells me they'll keep things completely hardware focused, bar some new "showoff"-type app for the Retina display (Pictures-related, perhaps?) and then keep any software-related announcements for a separate iOS 6 event. Not that I wouldn't love some hardware-specific OS changes, of course. Perhaps the new silicon is sufficiently kickass for some subtle changes - certainly wouldn't mind speed bumps to the 4-finger swipes, the delay is insane right now (~3 seconds?)I know it's not likely, but I hope we see some new software changes, like faster app switching, and maybe the legitimizing of the 4 finger swipes? In the case of the iPad 3, there will be the same pixel doubling...but now 300PPI isn't the magic number because you aren't holding iPads 10-12 inches from your face.
How much, if you don't mind?I'm really surprised at how quickly my iPad 2 sold on Amazon. I only listed it last night.
How much, if you don't mind?
I'm hoping it'll release the Friday of the week following the announcement. They've done that before. On MacBreak Weekly this week, Andy Inhatko and Mike Elgan agreed that it wouldn't be out that soon, which bummed me out. They're probably wrong.
Couldn't you drive across the border and pick it up at a USA store? It'd probably be cheaper too.I am really excited about the iPad 3; I just hope it releases within Canada at the same time as the United States (wishful :/), and that I will have enough money by the time it is released.

The iPad 3 enclosure seems to have a more gradual taper to the edges than the iPad 2. The taper is seen better on the top overview photograph. As a result of this longer taper, the iPad 3's camera rests on the taper itself. We saw this before but due to the dark lighting of that image, the taper seemed more exaggerated.
If you have it on a desk and are reading it like a book, then yes you will get within 12 inches.
Fuck, macrumors is now reporting that the iPad 3 has a 8 megapixel HD rear camera too and quite possible a HD front camera for FaceTime.
So...
Retina Display
4G LTE
8 megapixel HD rear camera and HD front camera
Quadcore CPU
Quadcore GPU and a gigabyte of ram?
This coming refresh sounds amazing.
No way the entry model will still be $499 if that stuff is true.
LTE, successor of HSPA. mobile broadband and stuff, y'know? What on earth is 4G?
