Happy with that. Dude who bought it (coworker) knows that a new one will be announced soon so I don't feel like I was trying to pull a fast one over anyone.

It will probably also come with something new that already exists but with apple it will be introduced as something brand new. I also think they will have more than one version of Ipad one smaller for school, uni and cheaper version and one bigger.

you do know "retina display" is just a fancy term for a certain ppi, right? even if this really is a lesser ppi than the iphone, Apple will still call it "retina" and most people won't give a shit.

Its certainly easier to say "retina display" and people know that you are talking about a display with high ppi. It also flows a lot better, so of course what I mean is that I would be disappointed beyond belief if anything happened at last minute that would mean the iPad 3 does not have a screen with double the resolution.

Well they are in production, so there is no last minute switching. Either macrumors.com is holding the production model or not.
Would you like everyone to refer to it as "increased pixels per inch" every time refer to it? We've gotten retina display to mean unrecognizable pixel points from an appropriate distance depending on screen size.
And I don't believe you there, iPad 3 with a width less than 960px would not be called retina, even Apple is not that dense. People aren't either.
Caps are the least of Apple's concerns when it comes to 4g/LTE.
The bigger issue is finding an integrated SOC that won't murder battery life.

I'd love to hear the argument that the iPad 3 with this resolution doesn't fit the standard of Retina display. If you're about to say that it isn't greater than 300 PPI than you've already lost the game...unless you're implying that everyone is expected to use iPads a foot from your face....which makes you a crazy person.

This is the Retina graph. Retina is a real thing...it's a marketing term applied to a real concept. Above the line = Retina. Below it = not.
It isn't some arbitrary PPI value. The iPad 3 doesn't need to be 300+ PPI to be considered Retina because you don't hold it a foot from your face when you use it. People laying it on their laps or on a desk when they use the iPad because it has a bigger screen and it's heavy enough that you don't want to hold it airborn for a long period of time.
I don't like all this "Retina is a fake Apple thing" talk. It just isn't true. If you watched the keynote Steve laid this all out clearly.

In the case of the iPad 3, there will be the same pixel doubling...but now 300PPI isn't the magic number because you aren't holding iPads 10-12 inches from your face.

I seriously can't part with my iPad 2. Yeah, first world problems etc, but I don't want to be without it for a month. Since I started considering selling it leading up to this launch I've realized that it's my main computer/internet device. I should be able to get a decent chunk of change after release even for a 32gb 3G.
I'm so pumped for this event. I want to see what they will do about scaling older apps, and if the iPad 2 gets iPhone 4(s) res native for iPhone apps.

WSJ already confirmed 4G.
I hope so, just have some doubt. I got burnt last year by iPhone 5 predictions.
This supposed display opens up some crazy possibilities. 1080p YouTube? Higher res Netflix?
I know it's not likely, but I hope we see some new software changes, like faster app switching, and maybe the legitimizing of the 4 finger swipes? Those two go hand in hand IMO. I'm sure we'll see something software related, just don't know how significant it will be.
Does the iPad 2 support 720p html5 videos on YouTube?

I'm still impressed by how well the standard YouTube site, with full html5 controls (viewable through desktop mode browsers like Dolphin) actually runs on the iPad 2. It's certainly not fast, but pretty much everything works, and I've only experienced one actual issue (play button sometimes slightly unresponsive.) Couldn't have been a better time for some speedy next-gen silicon.
My gut feeling tells me they'll keep things completely hardware focused, bar some new "showoff"-type app for the Retina display (Pictures-related, perhaps?) and then keep any software-related announcements for a separate iOS 6 event. Not that I wouldn't love some hardware-specific OS changes, of course. Perhaps the new silicon is sufficiently kickass for some subtle changes - certainly wouldn't mind speed bumps to the 4-finger swipes, the delay is insane right now (~3 seconds?)
you probably wouldn't get much closer, but I just busted out a ruler and 12 inches doesn't seem too close and there are situations/sitting positions where you would.

I am really excited about the iPad 3; I just hope it releases within Canada at the same time as the United States (wishful :/), and that I will have enough money by the time it is released.
They're going to want to give developers time to rework apps for the new display. Around 2-3 weeks is likely.
Couldn't you drive across the border and pick it up at a USA store? It'd probably be cheaper too.

I wonder if the difference in thickness can even be felt at all, due to this change. I was never quite happy with the sharp edges of the iPad 2, but maybe the slightly larger volume and longer taper will actually make this one a bit more comfortable to hold.

The distance I hold my iPad from my face isn't that much greater compared to when I am using my phone. All depends on how you define "retina display" I guess
