If you go back to the site and set up a new quote, you'll find that the price has been lowered dramatically. I guess that just means that the price you really get from them is the current price when they receive it, not when you send it?

I'm guessing the service is doing a little defense manuevering. They know just as clearly as we all do that iPads are about to be announced and that the current stock isn't going to be worth what it currently is by the time they get them, prep them and resell them.

...but they should still honor whatever the original quote was unless something terribly wrong happened during transit or you misrepresented its condition. Somethings bunk!

You said there were no back scratches on the form. But you admit here there were several light scratches. You misrepresented the condition of the ipad on purpose. $100 sounds steep for just light scratches, but you should not be mad that they take off a decent chunk of money for a misrepresented ipad. Just pay to have it shipped back and sell it to some idiot for $350-$400 who does not know they can get a like new ipad 2 from apple for $419.

To be fair, I don't consider there to be any scratches, but with the way the aluminum back looks you can easily think there are some. Who knows. I'd be better to wait and see though.

The question asks for dents or scratches, I'd go with 'no' as well if it's just a few superficial marks.

But yeah, just sell it yourself. Friend of mine recently got 400 euro's for his 32g iPad2 here in the Netherlands. If he'd gotten around to it a little sooner that could've been 450 or 475 easily.

Can anyone explain? Would a quad-core chip really make that much of a difference?

Would there be apps developed that could only run on iPad 3?

Would we see better games on iPad 3?

Would apps noticeably boot faster?

People want it because it's more, I suppose. So long as there is the massive screen resolution bump and enough of a GPU/CPU upgrade to offset the performance hit of the larger resolution, I'll personally be fine with the upgrade. Most of my time on the device is spent reading and for web development/testing, which would improve dramatically with the purported upgrades.

Not necessarily any more than a competent dual core designed with the hardware in mind. People just want QUAD CORE, because 4 >>>> 2.

As far as seeing better games on this next iPad, it really depends on what you want - in my opinion, a proper tactile gaming experience will always require some kind of hardware controls, such as face buttons and analog sticks, and this depends on the release of a widely-accepted gaming controller, pereferably from Apple themselves.

As we touched upon a few days back though, if you regard the question purely from a graphics perspective, it should be possible to achieve some very decent 3D visuals on the iPad 3, if the game in question does not render at full resolution (for example, sticking with the old "non-retina" resolution, which still has more pixels than the majority of current generation console games.) This of course assumes a decent level of improvements in the GPU, such as what we saw going from iPad to iPad 2.

Just got $290 for my iPad 2 (64gig wifi) on Gazelle.

Do you live in a small town or in a really dangerous neighborhood? Because if you don't you really should use craigslist for these types of sales. You would have gotten around 100 less than retail. maybe 150 less.

keep this in mind for the future. I guess it's to late now.

Well to be honest, if i remember correctly, the only game that has been designed to run on iPad 2 is Infinity Blade 2. It's the only app I can think of that actually runs faster/better graphics than on iPad 1.

I think if you have an iPad 2, and you don't care about the supposed 8MP camera then there isn't much there in terms of upgrades. The better processor will make apps and games launch quicker but over all you won't notice a difference. IMHO

I got $415 for my iPad 2 16GB Wifi on Amazon!

How? They show "up to $336" on their site for trade-ins...

EDIT: Oh, you sold it through Amazon, not a trade in. I may have to look into that... Is it easy to do for someone who has never sold anything via Amazon before?

Before. $382 after all of the fees and such. Not as good as what you can get from Craigslist or something, but I'm content since it was so hassle-free for me.

After negotiations and depending on your location $380 is probably the best you'd get anyway. And you avoid the weirdos, but you have to deal with potential shipping issues.

Apologies for a dumb question, but would it be worth selling my iPad 1 at this point in time? And if so, where, and what price should I expect? It's in fine condition aside from a minor nick on the back corner. I'm interested in the iPad 3 like everyone else, but probably can't swallow the full price point. :/

If you're comfortable, Craigslist. It'll net you the biggest payday. Downside is you might get stabbed or captured.

Any third-party docks?

I've definitely seen some now and then for portable "turn your ipad into a binder with a keyboard on the other side" models but that was mostly during the iPad 1 age. Pretty sure I've never seen one with a battery as well though. Ironically the best 3rd party options I've seen have all been on Kickstarter - might be worth doing a search for "ipad", browsing the funded options and see if any of them have sales websites yet.

I still see the apple standing dock at Apple stores, fwiw.

Lol

I'm getting $600 for mine by selling it. My goodness. Ahhaha.

Very easy. I sell viva amazon exclusively now if I dont go through Craigslist.
Can you get a Google Docs app for iPad? Would be handy, although the web version version probably works fine.

Have you tried the google app?

I'd love to sell my iPad 1 but I can't because the ios5 upgrade last year screwed it up.

I'm one of the small percentage of iPad 1 users who updated to ios5 and now safari constantly crashes for no apparent reason multiple times per day. You can google 'safari crashing on iPad 1 after ios5 update' and read all about it. There's a pretty hefty thread at the official apple forums from users with the problem and user-generated proposed solutions but none of them have worked for me. Apple still won't acknowledge the problem and I'm surprised they haven't deleted the thread on their forums. Ive done a factory restore and about 1000 troubleshooting steps and no luck. I also have to run with all iCloud stuff turned off so that my iPad doesn't run at almost a complete crawl.

Does jailbreaking help?

Anyone else thinking of doing something like this just PM me. Doesn't make sense to get ripped off by Gazelle when you could get ripped off by a fellow gaffer.

I'm serious, PM me.

Seriously, the hell are you guys doing? Ebay, Criagslist, use them love them. If you're getting substantially less than $400 for a 16gb iPad 2, you're being dumb.

Just got $290 for my iPad 2 (64gig wifi) on Gazelle.

I had the same iPad 2 as you, I got $600 for it. I'm making you feel bad, because you should feel bad.

Having the same problems with my iPad 1 after upgrading to iOS 5 as well, safari runs like shit and crashes multiple times a day. Its horrible

I will either upgrade to the iPad 3 or maybe get the new Asus tablet....

If they want to ship an iPad3 with a dual-core it's better for them that they use the CortexA15 design.
Dual A9 is unacceptable for an high end tablet in mid 2012.

Same problem here. It works most of the time, but anything with a lot of ads causes it to lock and crash. It will be a good pdf viewer for my wife though.

Nope. It's pretty goddamn frustrating as its been what 5 months since the big update? No acknowledgment from apple at all about it.

Some of the real technical gurus at the iPad forums have looked at crash dumps and they say that it's a memory issue - specifically that the iPad 1 doesn't have enough of it to run all the iOS5 stuff efficiently. I'd think if that were the case the problem would be more widespread.
