Blur Studios to do Killzone PS3 "Cinematics"?

Did anyone just see that Blur Studios guy on the Spike GameHead show? He said that Blur turned down working on the Killzone PS3 CGI trailer last year because they were too busy. But he said that Blur might be doing the cinematics for the real game. Why would Killzone PS3 need cinematics??

He didn't say they'd be in Killzone, he said Sony was talking to them about doing cinematics for their games which could be anything from PS2, PSP to PS3 games.

Yeah, maybe he was just talking about Sony games in general. It was funny how he said the Killzone stuff was total B.S., and then he said in 2 years games will actually play like that.

The Killzone trailer on the Axis site even has the same guy (soldier) from the PS3 trailer, you'll recognize him when you watch it.

Intro videos, people.

Blur are a fucking talented bunch, man. They've done two intro videos for us so far (Dawn of War and The Outfit) and you won't find a better animation house out there.

I remember hearing from Guerilla that Killzone PS3 would feature an entirely original cast compared to the last game, but thatw as back around E3 when they released the information about going for a more cinimatic feels and were including vehicles for land sea and air that you could pilot.

It's not...besides, the Killzone PS3 trailer looks much better than the Killzone 1 intro, by a big margin too.

the dawn of war intro was so fucking BAD ASS.

Btw part of the Sony genius of it all is that with an objectively brilliant trailer they have taken a game that is a 72% on Game Rankings and made its sequel one of the most talked about games of the next generation.

Can anyone make a video of the west coast feed and exactly what the guy said?

He said Sony approached tehm to do it, but they were too busy. He knows the company that did it so he knew it wasn't from the actual game. Geoff (the host) said something along the lines of "Yah we probably won't see games like that for another 5-10 years" and the guy said "No, no, more like 2-3 years".

Cinematics don't necessarily need to be prerendered, depending on your definition.

But regardless of the nature of the playback there is still a tonne of work that would make it worthwhile outsourcing to a dedicated specialist such storyboarding, animation, camera work, lipsynching, modelling specific characters/environments etc.

Or a more expensive one. ;-)

Blur may be great... but if you had to rank... how about. . .

1. Kojima Productions

2. Blizzard

3. Axis

4. Epic

5. Blur

6. Whoever did the original Madden (next-gen) test render. . .Tiburon internal?

What's the list for?

List of teams that have most successfully created excitement for a product with a brilliantly rendered cinematic about their (or their client's) games.

Or if you had a game that you had to have a cinematic about ..who would you go to , in an ideal world.

ROBOT - Onimusha 3

Links Digi Works - Resident Evil Remake, Dino Crisis 2, Onimusha, Devil May Cry 3,

Namco - Tekkens, Soul Caliburs, Ace Combat

Square Visualworks - Final Fantasys, Front Mission, FF-related title

Now I've seen CG done by blur, and to be honet they aren't that better than the 4 listed above. S

Prepare for an onslaught of JPN fanbois who have never seen DoW's CG to crucify you yelling "Square, Namco!" etc.

BTW: Blizzard does better ;)

DOW's opening was amazing, as is WoW's. What Kojima game has a CG opening?

CG or real-time engine doesn't matter ... I was thinking about the incredible stir that Every E3 Kojima movie causes and of course the PS3 (playamatic).

I don't think anybody's movies have cuased as great an excitement. . .

Hey Bish I missed most of the Blur interview but towards the end it sounded like he mentioned Blur were doing more Warhammer cinematics one for Mythic and another for Relic. Is this true? The opening cinematic for Dawn of War is Jaw Dropping and the game is fun as hell I hope there is more on the way. I was just properly introduced recently to the 40k universe by a friend. Relic should do a game based on Gaunts Ghosts characters.

That still doesn't have anything to do with intro cg animations. Enough with dragging Kojima in just about every argument.

I love the DoW an warcraft 3 intros... just a shame they are shipped in such a bad quality, I mean, why? :-/

I say Blur because they are damn fast, have a great pipeline. The DOW cinematic was completed in within 3 to 4 weeks from concept to final. Their directing skill is also phenomenal.

Yes Onimusha 3 is amazing as is the Blizzard work but time is sometimes of the essence.

Blur is freaking AWESOME ... and don't just think cinematics are just FMV's and what not ... they COULD be doing the in game cinematics, or non interactive sequences.

I just needed to hear the next 20 seconds after that clip to see what he mentioned about new Warhammer cinematics. Thanks for posting though Mcdonnell

I didn't realize Blur had done the intro to Return to Castle Wolfenstein (PC). That makes them top shelf AFAIC. That intro was awesome. It set the tone and mood for the whole game.

I don't like this at all. I want someone from Guerrilla reassuring me that there's not going to be any CG shit in Killzone, STAT.

Go over to their official boards and ask them. If they don't feel its breaking a NDA they'll answer your question.

I'd put Digital Frontier (Tekken 5, Devil Kings, Shadow of Rome, Appleseed) in the same league.
