Oh, don't worry the goal post has been moving from it's going to crash on the weekend itself, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday etc. You won't get many people to admit that the total gross is anything decent rather than an outright bomba.

Yeah, quality of the movie aside it's hard to rationally argue that this film won't be profitable.

It doesn't need some $500 million domestic number to be out of the red.

The first 30 mins were great, then it fell apart, I agree.

The movie was full of loud noises and people being flung about a shaky screen. I kept waiting for an actual Star Trek film to start - never happened. I knew I was in trouble when the first scene we have Kirk talking to a council of Jar Jars.

Pure shit.

Legs won't be great but SS will creep towards somewhere around MoS numbers (DOM) which is pretty good. How many people thought this was a 300M+ lock a few months ago?

Well I'm sure WB did or they wouldn't have spent like a billion dollars marketing it.

Ignoring fan wars, I dont think there has been any goal post moving. Saturday did crash. $38M was better than the early reports of mid-30s, but the weekend still came in about $10M lower than Friday was suggesting.

Sunday's drop was OK, as were Monday and Tuesday. The last 3 days have been on the mediocre side.

However, none of that matters because the opening ensured success. Man of Steel's post second weekend gross gets Suicide Squad to $300M

Equalizer was so good. I liked John Wick more, but to me they were both great. The interest in John Wick being so much higher than the interest in Equalizer seemed odd to me.

I'm thrilled we're getting sequels to both.
I absolutely loved John Wick but I haven't seen Equalizer. So I'm thinking I need to see Equalizer.

The you probably didn't enjoy OG Star Trek either, because the movie was straight up long OG series.

Well, there it is (or may be).

lol. Evans GIFs (and JPGs) are still the best thing to come out of the DCEU mess.

I doubt WB thought this was a 300M+ lock. They probably hoped it would do that number but 290M would be fine.

That would be a solid DOM number.

This year has had a bunch of them, but it's not like $300M is a completely standard domestic gross yet. DC has only had 8 films in its history hit that mark. Three were Harry Potter, and three featured Batman.

Anything over $250M domestic for a comic film that isn't a sequel to a film that grossed at least that is great.

A lot of people didn't like it nearly as much as I did, so take my opinion with a grain of salt. It's a slower burn than John Wick, but scratches the same itch for me. With that said, it's still behind Man on Fire for the best Denzel as a badass movie.

I can only imagine the panic going on at WB right now. This is two DC superhero films in a row with awful second week drops. It might get beat by some talking weiners.

Agreed. The film is amongst the all time greats at shitting the bed. Absolutely crap tier movie but the total gross will probably be ok.

It's not an all time great anything. Maybe it's the worst thing you've ever seen, but I'd just point out you've lived a sheltered life and haven't seen anything that's actually empirically bad.

To round it out,

X-Men Origins Wolverine -69%
Green Lantern -66.1%
The Wolverine -59.9%
Fantastic Four -68.2%
Jonah Hex -69.7% (you're winner)
Kick-Ass 2 -67.2%

SS is the worst movie i've seen in a decade and i watch around 50-60 movies a year.

Which explains why it didn't make that much money. It's not the 60s anymore and Trek is supposed to evolve.

Nothing about Beyond was 60s except for the female crewmembers still wearing skirts. Hell, if anything, it felt a hell of a lot less dated than the sad rehashing of the past decade of action cinema that we got with Into Darkness.

SS is the worst movie i've seen in a decade and i watch around 50-60 movies a year.

Must not have watched Batman v. Superman then...

Update*: Reports coming of SS showing legs at Sat, expected to rack in around 15M-17M

Interesting I haven't talked to anyone who hated it completely. Most say it's stupid but entertaining. And my daughter loved it and the theater I saw it in seemed to enjoy it. Hoping for a stream lined sequel.

Ditto. Honestly it has the dubious distinction of sitting alongside Grown Ups (which I walked out of) and Snow White and the Huntsman for me. Suicide Squad has higher highs and a generally good cast, but it's also one of the most fundamentally broken films I've ever seen, and that drags it down hard. Even most movies I dislike or even find flat out dumb are usually at least somewhat competently put together, but that's not the case here.

Changing the thread title's nomenclature wasn't the right move, gotta say. This thread will never show up when someone searches for "Box Office" in the title!

The long term damage to the brand is what really counts. Yes, they can have that nice opening weekend and then an 70 percent drop the next weekend and just barely skate to profitability, if not break even.

WW isn't a strong enough character on her own I would think to get people in seats. That might be the 3rd strike.

Buy the time we get to Justice League who is gonna care anymore?

Its a shame how much damage will be done by the time the solo Batman movie comes around. Witch I would count as the last hope.

Halp Gaf. I have to take my little cousin to the movies today and what does he want to see? NINE LIVES. I just pray that hardly anyone is in the theater so I can browse Gaf on my phone throughout the film.
