Saw Suicide Squad again today. Still wishing DC would have done more with Diablo, but other than that I still enjoyed it despite the flaws. I consider it much more entertaining than Batman V Superman (which took too long to get going).

I don't know, I haven't watched that. What I know is that SS/DCU haters have been eager to ensure that the word of mouth would be bad and the movie would tank after its fantastic opening, denying that evidence in the real world stated that people were actually enjoying the movie all over. I'm not even talking about critics here.

Turns out they were wrong and the movie is still going strong, as everyone who went to the theater instead of only reading and participating in the circlejerk fanboy agenda would've guessed.
Clinging to hyperbole in either direction is not healthy.

You sound emotionally hurt.

This post is the movie equivalent of the "we must unskew the polls" nonsense.

Kubo really deserved better. What a shame about its opening. I saw it yesterday and absolutely loved it.

They started advertising that movie way too early IMO. I feel like every damn film I have seen in the past year had a trailer for it. By the time it came out I kinda zoned out all media about it.

On the other hand, Pete's Dragon seemed to have the opposite problem from my experience.

Only problem is that it has the same lags as BvS ¯_(ツ)_/¯

If it hits 300M it will have the same legs as CW.

Doesn't matter. If it gets there than you can't lump it in with BvS legs.

We can still say none of them had good legs though :p

Civil War's run was weird in that it started out strong but then literally every major movie afterwards bombed for weeks on end.

Angry Birds
Neighbors 2
X-men Apocalypse
Alice 2
TMNT 2
Warcraft
Now You See Me 2

It wasn't until Dory that we got another major hit, though maybe The Conjuring 2 counts but that only* made $100M DOM (on a $40M budget). There were so few winners this summer. Suicide Squad is definitely one of them from a financial point of view, especially compared to all the other films that lost studios mountains of money. But both Squad and Civil War have worse legs than every MCU movie before this year. It's been a rough summer for the BO in general.

I guess this proves once and for all that there's no place for biblical epics in the 21st century?

Well, not any with huge budgets, anyway. The interesting thing to me was that I assumed, based on all the advertising I had seen, that they were purposefully avoiding any religious scenes. I even thought perhaps they had expunged it from the film. If they wanted the Christian market to embrace the film, they sure did a poor job marketing it. It just looked like a cookie-cutter Hollywood action flick, on top of a remake nobody wanted.

BvS has spent the last 4 weeks on top of the combined Blu-Ray/DVD sales chart. I have no clue how much it has sold in total as those numbers are usually released later on.

MoS did big business on Blu-Ray.

Bomba hur went down one place and Pete's Bomba went up one place.

Same with Bourne ending up on top of Bad Moms.

Ya, I expected Ben Hur to drop to 6th, but it doesn't look like the estimate was too far off.

Looks like a bunch of films got the dollar cinema boost this weekend.

They must have had some damn good promo for Suicide Squad because I never would have guessed that it only had a 26% RT score. I was never really interested in the movie myself, but just from going by the trailers, it seemed like an OK movie.

As for its gross, it looks like it's doing pretty well. It's probably not going to be a monster smash hit, but will probably break even (if that's considered somewhat successful).

I hate to bring up the Revenge of the Fallen comparison again, but I never would have guessed that movie would get a 19% RT score based on its first trailer: https://youtu.be/59vVThHvmGU

You guys, it's a good thing I think the word "bomba" is funny or I'd be starting to get really mad right about now

Strange may take the crown for the best legs for a superhero film this year. It really doesn't have to do anything too impressive. These films are still hitting big numbers despite the weak legs.

Only if it opens low. Deadpool had decent legs.

Im glad to see suicide squad holding up. I really enjoyed it when I thought I would hate it due to word of mouth and my general dislike for batman v superman. I liked this enough to see it twice

Japan love pets.
The Paul Feig-directed reboot of the franchise is predicted to finish north of $15 million in Japan, well below the $40 million the original took locally in 1984. Sony produced a Japanese version of the theme song, which is closer to the original than the Fall Out Boy version, but the lack of stars with local box-office pull seems to have dampened expectations, and overall promotion was relatively low key.

The Secret Life of Pets held on to the No. 1 spot for the second weekend in the country and took its total to $22.7 million from 1.9 million admissions after 11 days in theaters. It is currently on course to overtake the $42 million that Illumination stable mate Minions pulled in last year.

I am on my phone so I cant check as easily, but from what I can remember, Deadpool legs would be about on par with how new MCU series do on their first entry. Guardians, Iron Man, Ant Man, and the Avengers all broke 3x opening weekend. I think that Thor and First Avenger were a bit under Deadpool.
