Bob Weir, Grateful Dead Co-Founder and Guitarist, Dead at 78

Bob Weir, the singer-guitarist who co-founded the Grateful Dead and later found success with Dead & Company, has died at age 78.

This one absolutely stings me bad on a personal level. Glad I got to see him 3 consecutive nights at the Sphere last year with the Co. My parents took me to see The Dead towards the end of their run before Jerry passed. Weir was my guy in the band and he was a down to earth, wonderful man.

Going to play a handful of live shows in his honor today and probably through the next few days.

Yup. This one is a total bummer. The Dead are my all time favorite band. I usually don't go more than two or three days without listening to them. Last show I got to see of Bobby was with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra in November of 2024. Hearing some of my all time favorite songs that I have listened to for decades in an all new way was inspiring. The shear joy from the orchestra with the sing a longs and the huge ovations they got for parts of a song we never heard that way before was incredible. I will always be thankful that was the final way I got to experience Bobby live. RIP.

I wanted to add this as well. My dad passed away on June 1st, 2023. When I got in my car to leave the hospital, after he passed, the 1st song to come on was Brokedown Palace. Ten days later, I am at Wrigley Field to see Dead and Company, and the encore is none other than Brokedown Palace. I have seen so much live music in my life, and have never felt the emotion that I did as soon as those 1st notes hit. I never cried at a concert, but I did that night. It meant a lot to me, and that song means even more to me today.
