Bonus Round - Online Services

It's too bad that there aren't as many people I know with PS3's, I think HOME would kick ass otherwise.

I really only know 2 people with a PS3, that doesn't justify buying it since I've become a multiplayer-gamer.

I really don't want to hear Pachter give his opinion about games, why do they always have him on there?

He knows the business better than anyone on GAF, even though he'll make factual errors when it comes to games on occasion.

The opposite holds true, too. While Sony may lag behind Microsoft in some key areas, there are others where they are clearly ahead.

The obvious big point in PSN's favor is free online play, something Microsoft sadly doesn't seem to be adopting anytime soon.
No reason to, it's the best service on consoles by a longshot.

PSN also has some other notable advantages, which were barely (if at all) touched upon. Where's Xbox 360's Web browser? Three years later and it's still not on the way. Even the Wii has one.
While it would be a nice bullet point... the Ps3 web browser sucks.

Where's their equivalent of Remote Play? Last time I checked, Microsoft does market a line of mobile devices called Zune. Unfortunately, I don't believe you can even do Wi-Fi streaming from Xbox 360 locally, let alone over a network.
You can't really compare a Zune to a Psp.... at all. Also you're bitching about paying for online then turn around and support a feature that requires you to buy a Psp to use? You can use the online marketplace to Q up downloads now and make purchases however.

On the back end side, what's with Microsoft's phobia toward user-created content? I remember there being a big uproar about this when Unreal Tournament III came out. Unless Microsoft changes their stance here, Xbox 360 will never get anything that approaches the flexibility of LittleBigPlanet.
Huh? Farcry 2 has a full level editor, and XNA blows away the competition in terms of user-created content.

You're other points are agreeable, but don't you ever diss the PS3 web browser.

It saved my entire grade when my laptop battery stopped working and I had no access to the computer lab.

I had online assignments for one of my courses, and no access to a computer at that moment. I used my PS3 web browser when literally, the only alternative was Internet Explorer on my HTC.

Call it whatever you want, but do not call it useless and it certainly does not suck if you're in a bind.

Sucks =|= useless, I just can't see any reason to even touch it if you have a working PC with anything above IE 5.

Because of Flash 10, streaming videos and at the time I didn't have a PC at all. I used the web browser for everything in the duration of the week.

Just so you know, I won't drop the subject or give in, so just don't reply.

The PS3 web browser is fucking awesome and useful as hell, I don't see it any other way.

PS3 web browser is perfectly fine. It's basically WebTV for free. Sure, a PC browser is always better, but if you're in a bind or your computer has broke it's a lifesaver of a feature.

Exactly. An why not discuss the games themselves which are arguably better and more broader than on XBLA?

Also, Pachters "park" analogy was off. You get as much assholes and idiots on both platforms. And how could they spin free as being bad? Right now it's a matter of preference but that doesn't make the PSN that awful of an option like the guests made it seem.

Dissapointed the discussion was focused more on HOME which may not even be released until next summer. TALK ABOUT THE GAMES MAN! Or do you guys at GT not think that the PSN offers enough compelling content?
I see what you're saying. I find it extremely difficult to stomach these type of things on bonus round. Not to diss those guys for doing what they do but honestly if these type of misinformed opinions are supposed to be journalism for this industry...we're in a sad state. There are people quoting these things like the bible or something when they're flat out wrong.

I can imagine how frustrated devs and console makers get when these type of things happen. But hey, what can you do.

web browsing on consoles is a fad that needs to die

it doesnt make any sense

is there seriously going to be someone out there with just a PS3 or Wii that pays for Broadband service JUST For the damn console... either you have a computer or you dont have Broadband...

A fad? I'm struggling to see how that even makes sense. It's just a feature that PEOPLE DO happen to use. Why the hell should anyone want it to go away?

what kind of retarded garbage is this?

the thing is hooked up to my HD display, i have a bluetooth keyboard ... why the fuck shouldn't it have a web browser??

maybe if you are still slumming it on SD ..but if you are what the hell are you doing with a ps3 .. buy a wii or stay in last gen.

the moemnet we all moved to HD displays the web broswer became a valid feature. if i'm on my ps3 and i quickly want to check gaf your telling me it dumb for me to think that i could use my expensive HD console thats hooked up to the net to check a thread?

it's mind numbing 360 can't do this ..if anything it's just MS and there whole anal retentive ploicy about non sactioned MS content being displayed by the device. plain and simple.

Probably not, but don't take my PS3 browser away, and I expect future consoles to have browsers as well darnit. I use it frequently, and would use it over the computer at times. I mainly view threads, look up information, and check orders online, and I can do all of that and more with the ps3 between games. I don't want to hook my PC up to the tv because everyone would be using the tv to check facebook.

Before I even had a HDTV I still enjoyed using the browser on ps3 between games, or quit a game just to check something on gamefaqs/youtube quickly then continue playing (castlevania SOTC PSN is one of the things I stopped playing to check up on something about the game via the browser. SD).
