Borderlands 2 - PC Performance Thread

ok so this happened :o
Can't play the game anymore?

after using the vpn and going back to the EU store played the game for a bit, quit out of the game and come back 15 min later.

Now game is back to pre-load instate of play,

Anyone?

You have to go back onto the VPN each time you play it. They fixed the 'bug' with region locking recently. :(

If you stay in offline mode until Friday you won't have to vpn every time.

This game performs great

2560x1440, max settings, high Physx and it has yet to drop from 60 fps. Using SLI 670's

They should worry about their broken .NET framework install rather than people in other countries who have already paid for the game.

Would you mind telling me how the game runs using 1 card using those exact same settings? I would appreciate it a lot.

With a GTX 680 at 1080p, everything maxed, I get drops to 50-55ish when I overlook some of the big areas near the starting city. Dropping the view distance to High locks it at 60fps again.

I wish I knew what res some of you were running. I swear I'm running it at 60 fps locked with physics maxed with a feeble 560ti and I haven't noticed any noticeable framerate issues.

yeah i put the 306 driver recommendation in the OP yesterday - drivers are much better than the last so defo get them installed

My friend is having a screen spinning problem on this game. When he launches his character is spinning so the game must assume his left click is held down and when he starts the game he is in a constant spin that is going insanely fast. He booted up DOTA 2 and Gotham City Impostors and experienced no such problems. He doesn't have a controller plugged in and we tried lowering the dpi on his mouse. He did mention he had a similar problem on Hunted: The Demon's Forge so I'm guessing something to do with UE3 although I'm not certain. Any ideas how to remedy this?

NVM got it fixed he had a usb device that mimicked a controller

I'm still pretty early in the game but it dropped to 45-50 on one 670 with heavy action and physx shit flying everywhere.

Thank you, that... doesn't sound bad at all actually. That leads me to assume an otherwise stable 60 unless I'm wrong.

wait ignore what i said, i just rememberd my physx was greyed out so it was off or set on low

smooth 60 might not be possible yet without an update or two

I just quickly got through the opening to walk around a little (playing with friends later tonight/this week) and with my puny little GTX 460 1GB (first generation of them), I'm doing 60FPS no problem with everything maxed, minus the FXAA people have been mentioning in this thread about how it blurs things up.

I'm sure when the PHYSX and 'splosions and all that start I'll be brought back down to earth :(

I'm playing a single, overclocked gtx670 evga ftw, and an i5-2500k overclocked to 4.5ghz, and I'm getting at least/over 60fps constantly at 1080p with everything at max settings.

VERY pleased with the performance so far, especially right at the game's launch. It should even run smoother over time with updates etc.

At what resolution? O_o

I've got mine maxed out at 1920 x 1080, 60FPS (stable) with a 2GB 660 ti.

You'll get some drops later on (I'm roughly about 6 hours in).

I'm running at 1080P with everything maxed out (including physx on high), and most of the time it runs at 60fps. In heavy scenes the games frame rate dips in the low to mid 40s.

I'm running my 3570k and 660ti at default settings and haven't attempted to see what an overclock can do. To be honest I wouldn't have really noticed the frame rate drops as easily if I didn't have fraps going in the upper left corner while I'm playing. Overall I'm extremely happy with the options and performance on day one. Big step up from the original game. I'm sure patches will address some things (like gpu utilization), but I'm happy with the effort Gearbox put into the sequel.

Edit: Looks like there is a disable FXAA protip. Will look into this tonight!

I changed the windowed setting to Windowed Fullscreen, or whatever it's called and I have had absolutely no frame drops, compared to the 30-60 I was getting before. This seems to help in a lot of games.

Last night when fighting for the Claptrap's eye, my framerate dipped into the teens but I blamed it on Physx. Now, I'm not sure since I'm seeing multiple people with 7XXX cards reporting ridiculous drops. I didn't have much time last night to really test it out. If larger scale fights, with Physx on or off, drop the framerate, like I saw last night, I will be more than a little annoyed. I've been using an ATI/AMD card now for a few years and have been lucky for the most part, but recently, they have been pissing me off.

I just wanted to update this post. I replayed this section with Physx disabled and I didn't have a single drop below 60 at 2560 x 1600, everything else maxed, so I'm feeling a bit better about the situation.

My friend is having the same exact issue. Hope someone can figure out some specific ports to try

Well now I've tried enabling the Borderlands 1 ports because someone on the gearbox forums said that worked for em and still no dice. Wonder wtf is going on since this is getting really annoying.

Just a tip for all, if you're having frequent drops on the large maps, the first thing to turn off is ambient occlusion. You will forget about it after 5 minutes and it eats AMD cards alive.

I moved the Phsyx to my CPU to let the 690 just focus on the game with both GPU cores. GPU1 was still at a lower usage than GPU2. It's weird, but my game performance was still ok. Both GPUs are rarely in the 90s range unless there's a close up cutscene or something.

Read that a fair bit of users have been seeing issues like I have- where where there are no enemies around- the frame rate is perfectly fine)>60fps). But the moment 2/3 enemies come into the picture, it all goes to shit.

Will be trying the 12.8 drivers once I get back from work- but I'm not holding my breath : (

That doesn't solve the issue though - i'd be having even less of my GPU's resources being used then.

This makes sense, I'm going to try it out now.

My earlier post : I was playing at 2560 x 1440 res, all settings maxed, 60 FPS capped on a slightly overclocked 7970. Silky smooth everywhere (60 FPS+) until the moment where more than 3 bad guys start mixing it up, then it drops to 15 FPS (at one point, FRAPS recorded 10 FPS). This isn't a little drop, this is something else.

Maybe running Physx on the CPU in addition to AI when bad guys enter the scene, taxes the CPU too much and it all goes to complete shit?
I would've expected AMD cards to choke a little on Physx, but not like this.

I'm going to retry Physx at low to see what happens because I think a restart is needed first.

I've tried this, but it's not the "consistent" framerate that needs fixing (for me) - it's the base battles. Framerate drops through the floor when there are more than 3 bad guys mixing it up. This is something else ...

IIRC, PhysX runs solely on the CPU for AMD systems.

I'm rather pleased with the performance I'm getting with just a 4890. Its nothing spectacular, but at 1080 I have every on high save for FXAA, AF, Ambient Occlusion, Depth of Field and of course PhsyX. I am consistently getting 40s to high 50s with occasional dips into the 30s here and there mostly in big fights. Overall it looks and runs far better than the original game so I'm happy.

pretty good so far.

I suck at FPS so I've died a lot. I like that the penalty isn't that big for that...for now.

But still I'm liking it so far. I like the fact that the environments seem more varied overall. The desert theme of the first did nothing for me....although I only played like 30 mins of that one.

I'm in a region that doesn't get the game until Oct 26th, so I get to VPN for a whole month.

Those with a 670 are you getting a constant 60 frames in Captain Flynts base area? At max settings with AA greatly reduced and physics at low it still goes all around for me around at 40-60fps, mainly in the low 50s. I don't want to beleive that my i7-930 needs an update for a DX9 game and 1080p

Since I have SLI GTX 580's, do you guys think I should dedicate one to physx? In the second area after the intro I seem to get slowdowns when looking at a huge area and there are particles on the ground. I am wondering if that would happen if I dedicated one card to physx.

Yeah I wonder if something is going on with the sli profile like I mentioned earlier...I moved from 2560x1600 to 1920x1080, and the SLI GPU usage was horrible. I disabled multi GPU mode on my 690 and I'm getting 97% utilization on my GPU1 and the 2nd GPU delegated strictly to Physx use (control panel auto selected it when I disabled multi GPU mode) during fights which makes the framerate much more stable.
