Borderlands 2 Vita |OT| 870 gajillion guns in your pockets

Can't wait for the patch! I clocked in over 100 hours and refuse to play UVHM multiplayer because of the extreme framerate drops. It's so infuriating to play this game. They should really fix the slag problem, because there's no hint whether enemies are slagged or not.

Since PS Store updated already, I guess the patch will hit later this week.
Bummer.

So. I picked this up. The reviews are right, it runs like shit and I agree with their scores.

I don't care how awesome it is to have BL2 in your pocket, saying they've done a good job to get it on Vita is stupid. They haven't done a good job of getting it on Vita. It runs like poo and it totally ruins the experience for me :(

Makes you wonder how they get away with releasing it in such a state

Honestly, I don't see the problem with it. Maybe it's because I never played a console BL game, but it's fine for me. A little chuggy but it feels like this game suits the Vita as a platform - grind heavy, long, full of loot etc.

I'm with you. But, I have noticed it have some slow downs and I know while as long as the game is still playable (as in it's not causing me to miss a ton of shots or not able to do anything properly) that doesn't bug me, that some people that would bug enough to make it not playable.

I disagree with them obviously, but, I gotta remind myself everyone has different priorities (I'm just glad that's not something that will ruin a game that otherwise would be fun for me). Though, I could understand their frustration if they saw that the game would otherwise be fun but they can't play it. I've had games like that where I know I'd love it if only .... (for example before some one told me I could remap the camera control to the second stick, Monster Hunter Freedom Unite. I could not get over having the camera on the direction pad. It was just too annoying to have to choose whether you moved the camera so you could see the monster just as it was about to hit you and you didn't have time to move cause you were moving the camera or you ran around blind and couldn't see what the monster was about to do. It was very frustrating cause I could tell I'd love the game otherwise).

I remember MHFU on the PSP. It was a nightmare. It's a shame they haven't (and probably never will) made a dedicated Vita MH.

I don't see a problem with it either and I also have never played the console or PC versions.
Maybe that might have something to do with why I'm ok with it.

I also mostly play PSX and PSP games on my Vita so there's that...

I can't deal with these crashes. Framerate, fine, whatever but crashes ughh.

Agreed. I don't like having to build up my anarchy again from 0 because the game decided to crash. I also don't enjoy lost progress. The advantage of playing on a "suspend/resume" platform loses its luster when the game in question keeps forcing lost progress due to crashes. The framerates have been a minor annoyance but the crashes are unacceptable.

It runs shitty (albeit not as shitty) on PS3 too, where i first played it.

It's wierd how experiences vary. The only time I found crashes to be a problem was in the Animal Preserve, and yes, it did get annoying. If it was like that the whole game I probably would be more on the edge on if I thought the game was acceptable and still fun.

Luckily for me other than the Animal Preserve crashes haven't been too often. But... I will say the game is running worse now (I'm at
right after you almost save the guy's bird
while having done most side quests to that point). It's still fun, but unlike at first where it felt perfectly smooth to me, I can see what the detractor's are saying (I still think it's fun though. Who knows if it keeps degrading how long I can say that. But honestly, I've actually played enough that I'm a tad bored of it... I got distracted by GTA Tales from Liberty City and may not go back. Not cause it's running badly, just cause I'm bored enough to get distracted by new "shiny" game. But I'm going to try to finish the game. It's not like it's not fun to play. It's just that now new game is more fun since it's "new").

It's not that it happens a lot. I guess it's just FAR more annoying when playing Gaige since it can take you a long time to get 200+ anarchy stacked back up. When I die and lose anarchy, that's one thing. but when the game crashes and steals my anarchy, then I have an issue.

Yeah, I don't mind crashes if I'm at an open level (like the area around sanctuary) but when I'm in a "dungeon" they can get annoying cause it spawns you back at the beginning and you have to fight through all the mobs yet again (which is why it annoyed me at the animal preserve cause it did it a few times to me there, the last time it did it I at least finished but was about to get a bunch of loot and then I had to go back tot he very beginning with all the mobs reset, wasn't worth the loot. At least it was all loot I was going to sell, nothing interesting to keep).

Other than that, the crashes have been relatively rare and not at really annoying points (I know that latter point though is luck).

But, I haven't played Gaige (so I don't even know what mechaic you are talking about. I've only played Zero and Maya and I think I"ll stick to Maya, I like her).

Gaige has a stackable skill that increases attack and decreases accuracy with every kill and automatic reload. You lose all of your stacks when you manually reload your gun, die, or restart the game. Really fun character to play as, but the random crashes make the experience a bit frustrating.

So I originally pre-ordered this game but then cancelled it after the frame rate reports. I can be sensitive to bad frame rates and get head aches plus I have the game on my laptop so I just thought if I really want to play it I can just do it on there.

For father's day I got a £20 psn voucher and that made me look into it again. I was still unconvinced to be honest so I decided to try play it again on my laptop in bed (as these days thats where I will pay on week nights once the wife and kid are sleep. Game runs great but laptop is noisy, produces a lot of heat and it's pretty uncomfortable trying to play it in bed (I have mild RSI). So I decided to take a punt on it as I really wanted it on vita as it's perfect fit gaming in bed.

I have to say im really glad I did. Played it 2 hours solid last night and 40 mins this morning. Really enjoyed it. Its certainly not perfect but I'll take the flaws to be able to play it in comfort.

Here's my break down:
• Frame rate is dedinately scetchy. But certainly not unplayable. In smaller areas it's pretty much 30 fps but regularly drops to the mid and low 20's in open areas. However because it generally doesn't need pin point accuracy it doesn't effect play to much. For comparison sake I would say it feels smoother than resistance multiplayer and is a LOT better than both mod nation racing (which is diabolical) and AC liberation. It's certainly payable and didn't give me head aches.

• Graphically it looks good on the OLED screen. Compared to my PC running it at Max it obviously looks a fair bit worse but it still looks good. This is mostly helped by the art style of course.

• enemies attack you in smaller waves but this seemed perfectly fine

• I love gyro aiming. It's amazing and I pretty much prefer it to even mouse aiming due to comfort. However what I don't like is inverted gyro aiming when I invert the sticks. Please fix this, it will play so much nicer if you do.

• menus are a bit of a mess. The frame rate plummets and up and down randomly don't work on the analogues. However they always work on the dpad. Its luckily only a little annoying as its just the menus.

• Most importantly, this is borderlands 2 with all the DLC for £20. Is a bargain. Frame rate is sketchily but playable and gyro needs fixing. Apart from that is fantastic. For me it's the best version simply because of the portability.

The need to get a demo of this up because it's fairly known that people say it has a bad frame rate. However im pretty sure if there was a demo a lot of people would be able to try it and judge for them self how they feel about it and think its good enough. Also I hear there is a patch coming today? Please have slight frame rate improvement and most importantly a gyro fix.

I recommend this game.

Played another two or three hours last night. Really enjoying my commando playthrough and I'm looking forward to replaying it as, well, all the other characters eventually. I love the badass rank stuff. Knowing that all those little improvements will carry over to everyone else give an overarching persistence that I really dig. I feel like everything I do contributes to everything I'm going to do.

It bums me out that gamers are so hyper-critical and that Iron Galaxy are probably going to read far more people talking shit about this port than praising it. It's a tremendous achievement.

Its certainly not perfect but I'll take the flaws to be able to play it in comfort.
That pretty much sums up my feelings on most Vita games. The 'definitive' version is the one that I actually get time and space to play.

Its pretty much a problem with portables in the west. A lot of people don't need potability. We often drive to work and play on the big TVs at home. Reviewers certainly have a lot of time to play games in this manner and a lot of people out there have enough free time to do this as well. If you are younger, have no kids etc etc. So they just want exclusives to buy a system rather than care about the portability aspect.

However then there are a lot of people like you and me Dave. We love portability. That doesn't mean I want to play on the bus. It means I want to play off the TV and anywhere in the house as well as not in the home. Its people like us that value portability more than anything and why vita and now remote play is so important. I have a ton of steam games I'll never play because I only have to to on Friday and sat nights, and I often want to kick back with a film then.

Its a shame but its the way it is and leads to reviews that say thing like "why would I play it on vita when I can play it with better graphics on PC/ps4/Xbox etc" a lot of people see this and agree. People like me go "that's not the point". But it is what it is and I have said this same thing a hundred times. Reviewers need a team who understand why portability is important because if you don't you just won't ever understand.

ok so got the game yesterday and so far I am very impressed. It looks great on the PS vita and plays perfectly for a handheld. Because I am only an hour in I have not seen and bad frame rate dips but this will be patched so it is ok.

Man, the fonts in this game are just one step above being completely unreadable. It seems like they´ve been playing their port on big screen 99% of the time.

I´m also glad I can disable the voice-overs. That claptrap guy is incredibly grating. Other than that, I guess I can KINDA deal with the crappy framerate - I´ve been playing Need For Speed Most Wanted on the Vita much more than on my 360, so I guess I´m used to accepting technical flaws for portability.

I remember MHFU on the PSP. It was a nightmare. It's a shame they haven't (and probably never will) made a dedicated Vita MH.

Using the index finger on the dpad sounded like a joke back when I first tried MHP3rd, but I still managed to get around 100 hours on my shitty old PSP that way.

I´m usually very sensitive when it comes to bullshit controller acrobatics than give you RSI, but "the claw" worked surprisingly well on the PSP, especially since you can control your character, the camera and still have the right hand able to do all the attack commands at the same time. The index finger is bascially just tapping left and right on the dpad.

I also have MHFU on the Vita and having a second analog just isn´t as helpful as I thought. I know it sounds crazy since MH seems like such a prime example of a dual-analog game, but the claw worked well better than I thought.

It also helps that the layout of the nub, the dpad and the general shape of the PSP all help in making this unusual motion work. The left hand is bascially in a "relaxed pinching" position. This pretty much only works because of the big, segmented shape of the dpad. On a 3DS this just wouldn´t work at all, the pad is just way too small and stiff for tapping with the index finger, nevermind that the position of the analog and the dpad is swapped.

The frame rate if scetchy from the get go so you will have experienced it. But this shows you that its clearly not bothering you which I feel will prob be the case with most people. I am a bit sensitive to them normally but I'm still finding it playable and not to jarring.

I agree 100%.

I LOVE sitting on my bed and playing games on handhelds, and instant wake/sleep is a big part of this as well. I just don´t have a good "comfy couch" setup with my consoles, playing 360 means sitting on my desk. Handhelds are just so much more convenient and thus relaxing for me.

I'm considering getting a Wii U to accompany my 3DS and Vita partially because of Off-Screen play, and I'm sure whenever I pick up a PS4 I'll use Remote Play all the time.

Your words have touched many, including me. Very well said. I still can't understamd how gaming outlets treat handhelds the way they do. Change needs to happen, but that's almost impossible, aside from having one of us infiltrate their ranks.

Im 30 with no kids, but the Vita is my most played device. 3 of my friends though are just that demo...30's, 1-3 kids, and the Vita gets their most attention due to the pure spontaneity of the play sessions.

You here that Sony. Target US damn it.

Agreed! I never play my Vita out (well rarely). It's there when I fancy a game but the wife and kids have the telly - particularly at weekends when the kids have earned their gaming time. I used to be able to send them off with a pair of 3DSs but no more - they want the big games on the big TV.

Saying that, my eldest (9yo) has really taken to my Vita so he's getting one for his Birthday - that's one step closer to freeing up the TV at weekends!

As a 35 year old Dad with a wife and 3 boys, portability is extremely important to me. I get every console but find most of my time on portables. Portables has literally allowed me to keep engaging in one of my favorite hobbies. I have to mentally schedule time to play the AAA games on the big screen, but with a portable I have tons more flexibility.

I guess only DadGaf and TravelGaf would understand.

Finally finished up my first run with commando not too long ago, loved it the whole way through. As it was my first playthrough of 2 I only had the original Borderlands framerate in co-op on PS3 to compare to it but I found it to be playable. Some drops did get on my nerves, but the tradeoff for portability didn't bother me.

I'll probably wait a littlebit before I start the DLC but I hope that this isn't the last of portable Borderlands, the series is a great fit for a handheld imo.

You can try the skill at level 6. It's called Anarchy and is the very first skill on the right side of the right spec tree. Just never reload yourself and let the game automatically do it when your magazine empties.

Using something like a Torgue pistol or other pistol will help you build it up quickly with the smaller magazine and quick reloading times.

Picked this up a couple of days ago (die hard vita fan here too) and I have to say I dont get the negativity surrounding this game?

Im only about 3 hours or so in, and while frame rate slowdown is noticable it certainly doesn't impact the fun you can have playing it.

And the VALUE! huge game, shedloads of dlc, for £20? I'll take that and enjoy myself for a couple of months, thanks

Look right, it's neither great (it could've been optimised a lot more, the menus are unnecessarily laggy, the frame rate does make the experience a bit cave sometimes) or terrible (it's playable, engrossing and fun once you don't expect Killzone-level performance).

Having said that though, I sadly don't think the patch is going to fix any of these issues- there'll prob be a tweak here or there but that's about it.

Saiyan-Rox

Its the same with me except I don't see how people are playing this and enjoying it. the frame rate and slowdown is downright unacceptable even digital foundry says it drops below 10fps and it's very noticeable even moving around is laggy because of it and then there's the texture pop in granted this is a problem with borderlands even on PC but its even worse when most textures were removed in the first place

If the patch doesn't work I want a refund -_-
