it’s like bunch of old people cosplaying as video game characters.

I'm pretty old and it even looks that way to me. There's something about the ultra-HD era of films that makes me think "bad cosplay" very often. It's like peeling the film stock, CRT TV and other layers just makes it look too much like you're on set watching the sausage get made sometimes.
