The way this has been going and the whole cartel business, (I hope) that area of Gus's involvement has its curtains thrown open some more. One thing the show has treated fantastically, so far, is only showing a small piece, or just the footprints of the cartels involvement but nearing the end I want to see much more. And its scary to think that Walt is probably going to be introduced to an element more dangerous than Gus.

She may have fucked Ted, but this was brilliant!

I don't pay attention to the products, only what the actors do with them.

Walt isn't having a Coca-Cola when I watch it, he is having a soda that he bought with bog's "first dollar" just to show exactly what that dollar is worth. As is, bitch! AS IS!

Been seeing him drive that same struggling teacher econobox car for four seasons now and I still don't know what it is or who makes it.
Can that really be considered an econobox?

It's a Pontiac Aztek by the way. Hideous car.

I hope they don't split up the final season or have to really rewrite the scenario to take into account the split. I'd rather have one strong season than two disjointed ones.

- 20+ minutes of Breaking Bad discussion on the Sepinwall/Fienberg podcast this week:
We're a few days late for this week's Firewall & Iceberg Podcast, and we're taking next week off while I go on vacation. But in the interim, we have a very early review of "Sons of Anarchy" season 4, more mailbag, more "Breaking Bad," and more "Pants."

The rundown:
"I Just Want My Pants Back" -- 02:00 - 11:00
"Sons of Anarchy" -- 11:00 - 20:30
Listener Mail -- 20:30 - 42:00
"Breaking Bad" -- 42:20 - 01:05:30

I would much rather they didn't split the 16 episodes, but they will almost certainly do it.

Yep. No point in fretting over it, because AMC will definitely split it. They have no reason not to. After Mad Men and Breaking Bad end they have no critically acclaimed shows left.

Could someone please explain where all this Mike killing Gus speculation is coming from? The only way I see Mike going against Gus is if Gus sends some goons to get rid of him (with Jesse saving the day for real no doubt). Although I have no idea why Gus would want to get rid of Mike - their relationship seemed fine in the last episode.

There has been a few things that make you think. Mike's reaction to the Victor thing, noticing the blood on his jacket, saying Walt makes a 'whole lot more than he does', almost getting his head blown off protecting the shipment, staring at the X-acto knife in Gus's office.

I think the way it will go is this: Mike/Gus earn Jesse's trust. They ask Jesse to kill Walt for them. He doesn't go through with it. Gus tells Mike to kill Jesse, but Mike has started to like Jesse in the months of babysitting him and can't do it. Decides to turn on Gus.

Something like that

A while back, I read an interview with Vince Gilligan about season 4 and he was saying this season the conflict between Walt and Gus would be like two expert chess players going at it.

So far though, we haven't seen Walt use any strategy or come up with any sort of plan to get to Gus.

Hell, so far all we've seen him do is sit around brooding, becoming more unhinged and generally being incompetent at getting to Gus.

I think the season has been great so far, and I'm sure in the end it'll even be a fantastic season like the first 3 have been for me, but I just think its strange how we still haven't seen much of Gus and Walt still hasn't tried to come up with some plan.

Oh well, maybe they've been saving all of that stuff for the 2nd half of the season

I really hope they flesh out Walt Jr. a bit more as the show comes to an end.

He seems so hopelessly naive - to the point of being dumb.
The end of the series will turn out, after Walt discovers Gus' dead body, that Walt Jr has been running the other cartel this whole time. And he's not crippled. He'll meet an unknowing Walt in a dark room where a low hanging bulb is the only light and confront him with a proposition to be his main drug manufacturer from now on. Walt takes the offer with pride, pats his son on the back heartily, and they take off in his Dodge Charger to get smoothies.

Yeah...that would work if he was Keyser Soze.

This is probably the dumbest Walt has behaved in the entire series. Forget about his ego (which we knew was always a factor), he's just making dumber and dumber decisions with each episode. Dude is supposed to be an intelligent guy who will inevitably take over Gus, but that is looking less and less plausible. One thing they are certainly doing is portraying Walt as a complete dick. I think up until season 3, his character (for me and my friends, at least) could still be debated as the protagonist and that despite the horrible things he did, we could always somewhat understand. Now he's a complete bastard. And I love it since Cranston plays him so well.

Jesse has been unbelievable this season. The acting has been top notch and you really sympathize with the character. Although I still liked him last season, he was a bit annoying through a stretch of episodes. But he was a lot funnier before compared to now (which is understandable seeing his characters growth).

Nice. I was hoping that Skylar would at least go to Colorado for an episode or two. It would make for an interesting change of pace
and then I could sneak on set. ;p

She was going to flee to whatever state the coin landed on, and stay in NM if it landed there.

It landed in CO but she moved it to NM anyway.

She should have signaled Batman after Walt said he was the danger.

Or Darkwing Duck.
She basically became Batman at the end of the episode

""Because she's the hero that Walter Jr. deserves, but not the one he needs right now...and so we'll call her a 'bitch' ..because she can take it...because she's not a hero...she's a silent guardian, a watchful protector...the Bitch Mom"

XD So funny.

WTF how did some of you not understand that, my faith in all of you is lowering.

Because it still didn't make much sense. She's just going to leave everything behind except the baby? What about Jr? What about Marie? It was a stupid thing to do and perhaps why she dragged the quarter back over NM, because she realized it too.

I thought the scene was just her choosing and nothing more. I didn't think she symbolically move it back to new mexico to show her staying. I thought that was just her picking up the coin in a sulking manner. Figured she was going to be smart about disappearing and plan it out over the next few episodes.

Possible loaded spoiler/speculation
There's a photo from from some of the promo shots that shows "an abandoned, run down house" that looks like the white's dining room....just saying

She freaked out after Walt's speech and just ran for it. At the four corners, she decided she would leave it up to fate, but realized how crazy it would be for multiple reasons.

It was awesome to see Skyler witness Walt's madness for the first time.

The walls that separate his two disparate personalities are really starting to crumble.

A choice being illogical and irresponsible and a choice making sense within the context of a story are two wholly different things.

I don't think so. The coin toss scene - to me - is one that I think almost anyone can relate to.

Skyler has a conflict because she has already subconsciously made a decision (to stay) that she knows is not the rational decision. She wants the coin toss use the coin toss as a way to vindicate her decision. When it doesn't, she does what she wants to do anyway.

People do this in real life all the time. They ask their friends for advice when they've really already made up their mind on what they're going to do.

The reason I think the coin toss is such a great scene is that it articulates this almost universal experience without a single line of dialog.

Is Breaking Bad eligible in 2012 for the Emmys? If so, man, Cranston should submit this episode. "I am the one who knocks". fucking awesome

Only complaint I have is that this season needs more Saul

It truly was. She should've went to Colorado and sent Jr. a plane ticket to meet her there.

The last few episodes have almost redeemed her, although it takes awhile for anyone to come back from something as horrible as fucking Ted.
